Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Gee Sean, you're the BU historian laureate, but you may be missing the fact that BU took the ice against Alaska (Anchorage) in October 2008. Then again, given the outcome, maybe they didn't "play" them in the way any of us wanted to see.

Alaska is actually Alaska Fairbanks. And we have never played them.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

if I'm not mistaken, BU used his scholarship $ on Chiasson. So this looks like it worked out okay on Comm. Ave.

Werek appears to be one of those kids whose hockey development, for whatever reasons, stalled once he got to the OHL. Part of it may be that he was bigger/stronger at an earlier age and that once his peers caught up to him physically over the past couple of years, he no longer had that physical competitive advantage he did at age 15-16.

Who knows how differently he may have developed, especially skill-wise, if he stuck w/ the original plan (USHL-->BU).

I hate the offseason...so few ways to procrastinate via college hockey. Someone argue about something please? Parker must have done something offensive in the last week..get on it!

Hey, we're doing better than Maine, they have so much angst they're already on their second offseason thread, we're not even 20% done with our first. High fives all around.

The WCHA Blog is reporting that prized BU d-man recruit Anthony DeAngelo is being hotly pursued by Sarnia Sting of OHL to depart Cedar Rapids of USHL. Blogsite reports that although DeAngelo enjoyed time in USHL his parents favor jump to OHL. Anybody know what's up?

I don't have any inside info or anything, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if he jumps to the OHL. If he has the chance to play at that level now and that's what his parents want, I don't see how he could pass it up. 2014 (his would-be arrival at BU) is a long way away. That would mean three more years of playing in the USHL. Why do that when you could be playing in the OHL for those three years?

No dismissals this week? Must be collating all the superlative surveys from the end of the season. Whoever was voted worst teammate better go grab their gear before JPa goes and does if first.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

So any idea what the lines might look like next season? I'm curious as to whether the recruits and Cisse will be able to step in right away and contribute.

My guess:
Connolly - Trivino - Chiasson
Nieto - Gill - Coyle
Megan - Hohmann - Rodrigues
Courtnall - Gaudet - Cisse

Noonan - Clendening
Escobedo - Nicastro
Privitera - Ruikka

Think your d men are right on. They will tend to change over the course of the season. Only omission here is that Rosen did such a great job as a fourth line center I think he is a lock to return to that spot, IMHO he was the most improved over the course of season and biggest pleasant surprise. No way he's out of lineup now.

Yeah, it's a tough call between Rosen and Gaudet. I think Rosen definitely showed more improvement than Gaudet last season, but I'm not convinced he's a better player. I think Gaudet, when healthy (which he wasn't for a large chunk of this season), brings more to the table in terms of creating chances. Both are pretty good defensive players and neither one's all that good on faceoffs, although Rosen improved a lot as the season went on. Of course, it's a pointless debate if Gaudet isn't fully recovered from his hip surgery by the start of the season.

Just sticking with this one topic for a moment. Think about how good Rosen did jumping into a radically new position (not winger to center) but from defense to center. Additionally, Rosen was .100 better on faceoffs than Gaudet and he just learned how to do it. Imagine how much better he will be next season compared to a pretty darn good initial season at center. Based upon what I saw of him I'd want him out there on regular shifts as well as in a critical defensive situations. He also throws his body around as good as anyone on the team and has good smarts, hands, skating and shot. IMHO he has WAY more potential than some other guys. This is a guy you def keep in the line up all the time. BTW wasn't Gaudet given a "D" rating while Rosen was a "B"?
