Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I will cry. And then I will go yell at them after the game for RUINING MY BIRTHDAY.
You'd better light into them pretty good BEFORE the game so they won't ruin your birthday. A woman scorned...

Then again, you playing BC that night? If so, probably best to just skip the game altogether and make believe there never was a game scheduled on your birthday. ;) :p

The ND-Minny game is the HOF game and is supposed to be January 7th...

I was talking about a BU-Minny game.

No, Holy Cross. And given that we have a home game the week before, that pre-game statement is something that could happen. I'll have to think about that.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

at the risk of derailing the discussion of non-college sports on a college sports board, I happened to log into my season ticket account and this popped up under the upcoming events tab:

• OCT • 01
SAT BU MH vs. St. Francis Xav
7:00 PM || Agganis Arena manage my tickets
• OCT • 08
SAT BU MH vs. New Hampshire
7:00 PM || Agganis Arena manage my tickets
• OCT • 15
SAT BU MH vs. Denver
7:00 PM || Agganis Arena manage my tickets
• OCT • 22
SAT BU MH vs. Holy Cross
7:00 PM || Agganis Arena manage my tickets

If true, that's two new games previously unreported.

Interesting... my assumption was that the HC game would have been the tuesday before thanksgiving... I hope that having a game that night is not something that is permanently going away.

Slurpees, thank you for the information regarding October home games. I have included them within my spreadsheet for the upcoming year's games; a link is available on the 2011-2012 Schedules thread.

Does anyone else have further information regarding BU's schedule? I have UMASS-Amherst's games, as well as the Beanpot, and the four games mentioned by Slurpees.

Do you have BU vs. Northeastern on 3/2 and BU @ Northeastern on 3/3? Also Cornell/BU at Madison Square Garden on 11/26.

That don't sound right. BU and NU just finished the second season of playing each other at the end of the regular season (and for the fourth out of six). The normal HE scheduling would have BU finish next season against another team.

IIRC the normal HE schedule variation is 3 years based on a similar template, and then the next three years on a new template, but it could be two years.

Joe B did announce the final weekend matchups for next year already though, featuring NU v BU.

I believe it's two-year cycles, but either way, the next cycle has BU playing NU on the last weekend of the season again.

Curious Fun Questions:

How many of the current D1 teams has BU never played?

Of the teams we have played... what team have we gone the longest without playing?

Of these teams, who would everyone most like to see us play?

Well, the first two questions could be answered by anyone with a recent media guide or Sean Pickett from memory.

For the third, I would like to see Bemidji State. I'm pretty sure BU hasn't played them, certainly not since Bemidji went D-I. Penn State in a few years.

1. Alabama-Huntsville, Alaska, Bemidji, Bentley, Canisius, Connecticut, Mercyhurst, Minnesota State, Quinnipiac, RIT, Sacred Heart, and Union.

2. AIC (1-14-1957), followed by BGSU (3-17-1984) and MTU (11-26-1989). Note: only AIC was from memory, and I still looked up the date.

3. Quinnipiac at TD Bank Sports Center because I want to see a game there. MTU at Agganis Arena so I can also see the game.

At first glance that is a surprising long list, but with the long HEA schedule and the Bean Pot, BU doesn't have many OOC opportunities per year. There are only four current teams RPI hasn't played, Canisius, Minnesota State, Nebraska Omaha, and Northern Michigan.

Yes, but it also reflects Coach Parker's scheduling philosophy. He has stated in the past that he wants to play the top teams from the other conferences to better prepare BU for the playoffs, especially the NCAAs. His philosophy has met reality with the opening of Agganis Arena and the need to play home games outweighs his desire to play top teams. Even with this priority, he has been able to bring top teams into HAA. We have also seen Holy Cross, but the rest of the games have been filled with BU's long-time opponents they played regularly until the ECAC/HE split.

I think it is likely BU will play the other long-time ECAC opponents they have not played in several years, Clarkson, Colgate and Princeton, before they play some of the teams on the never played list.

Gee Sean, you're the BU historian laureate, but you may be missing the fact that BU took the ice against Alaska (Anchorage) in October 2008. Then again, given the outcome, maybe they didn't "play" them in the way any of us wanted to see.
