Boston University 2011 Offseason

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Just sticking with this one topic for a moment. Think about how good Rosen did jumping into a radically new position (not winger to center) but from defense to center. Additionally, Rosen was .100 better on faceoffs than Gaudet and he just learned how to do it. Imagine how much better he will be next season compared to a pretty darn good initial season at center. Based upon what I saw of him I'd want him out there on regular shifts as well as in a critical defensive situations. He also throws his body around as good as anyone on the team and has good smarts, hands, skating and shot. IMHO he has WAY more potential than some other guys. This is a guy you def keep in the line up all the time. BTW wasn't Gaudet given a "D" rating while Rosen was a "B"?

Not sure where you're getting your faceoff numbers, but I see Rosen at .444 and Gaudet at .384, which is a pretty good margin, but not a .100 margin. As for our grades, those were relative to expectations as much as anything. Like I said, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Rosen play every day, especially if Gaudet's still recovering when the season starts. Obviously he did a great job moving to center last year and there's no reason to think he wouldn't be even better. I just think Gaudet's a little more dynamic of a player, especially if he can get back to playing how he played in 09-10. Rosen is probably the better defender and a more prototypical checking-line player, but I think BU will be deep enough next year that the fourth line should be expected to score more than this year's fourth line did. And I think Gaudet would be more capable of making that happen than Rosen. Just my humble opinion. Both are good guys and I'd be happy to see either one or both of them step up their games this year.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

My guess:
Connolly - Trivino - Chiasson
Nieto - Gill - Coyle
Megan - Hohmann - Rodrigues
Courtnall - Gaudet - Cisse

Noonan - Clendening
Escobedo - Nicastro
Privitera - Ruikka

and then there's Zach Hyman. The Canadian Junior Hockey Player of the Year. Rumour is he's decommitted from Princeton and heading to Boston and Minnesota?

Heard he decommitted, but I haven't heard BU mentioned at all. With 15 forwards already committed for next season, I'm not sure how BU could fit him in. If Coyle or Chiasson had gone pro, yeah, but probably not as is.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

So any idea what the lines might look like next season? I'm curious as to whether the recruits and Cisse will be able to step in right away and contribute.

Right away? Maybe not. After all the first semester ejections? For sure.

See above, the more on the roster the more room for ejections.

If I use all the troll material, what will they post?;)

Random trhoughts related to various posts:
- Cisse on the 4th line would be a disappointment, given how highly Parker has spoken about him. He also doesn't seem like a typical 4th liner to me.
- I hope Gaudet finds the scoring touch from two years ago, but I think all those goals were a little bit of puck luck. My recollection is that most were gargbage goals from in tight 9which is fine by the way). I think the real Gaudet is somwhere between what we've seen over the past two seasons. I would definitely take Rosen over him.
- Would be a bummer to lose DeAngelo, but lots of time to replace him if needed.

I wouldn't get too hyped up about Cisse until he can prove that he's fully healthy. The last time I was at Agganis, he still wasn't skating. Nothing I have heard from the team/Parker has convinced me that he will be able to return next season at close to 100%.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

O'Connor is rated the 6th best incoming goalie on collegehockeysource.com
Privitera is 5th best D.
Rodrigues is 47th best F. and Hohhman is 4th best F.

Our favorite Italian at NU is listed as the 2nd best incoming forward.

I didn't know there was another van Riemsdyk.

And I'm not sure how reliable this website is, since they think Jack Connolly's older brother was his senior teammate at Duluth this year.

It seems pretty legit despite more than a few spelling mistakes -- Hohmann has one H and two N's, for instance. Also, O'Connor isn't coming this season, so he shouldn't be there. That said, all the names I would expect to see near the top of the lists are there, so I'd say whoever runs that is pretty well-informed. Their "recruiting trail" at the bottom is pretty informative, too.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

First time I can remember that all BC games are before Christmas break.
The last time all BU-BC league games were before Christmas was the 1966-67 season when the 2 ECAC games were on 3 & 13 December 1966.

The last time all BU-UNH league games were before Christmas was the 1997-98 season when the games were on 14 & 15 November and 12 December 1997.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

I have not followed the schedule development and speculation too much...all in all a decent schedule but:

-Was hoping for ND sometime in the fall with the possibility of doubling as a football / hockey weekend... would have been a sweet road trip.
-Looking like the Tuesday before Thanksgiving game is a thing of the past, which is too bad... i always enjoyed that as a sort of kickoff to the holidays.
-I thought we were not going to play Harvard on the years that we play them first round of the Beanpot anymore?
-The U-18 game? Yuck.
-The U-18 game on a Sunday? Double Yuck.

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Why would they change that? To go up on a Sunday against the NFL? Brutal decision

Maybe they're thinking it won't be an issue?
Surprised about the BC and UNH scheduling; wonder if it was a league decision or something from the coaches?

Re: Boston University 2011 Offseason

Majority of games Saturday night. Two exhibitions. Underwhelming opponents.

If there was ever a time to drop, that foot is now.
