Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

Here's hoping a few Gophers get called up now that the lockout is over.

This guy's ready! ;)

This must be what it's like to be Minnesota.
Being Minnesota means you have to play #@#*( UMD and !*$&@ Wisconsin at least eight times a year, often 10, even when they're loaded and we're a little off. These winning streaks are rare air, so breathe it while you can.

So true, ARM. But if you're Boston College, just try to imagine: You have to play their main rival (#@#* Boston University) at least three times every season! BU has proven to be BC's main nemisis, as evidenced by BC's rather hapless 5-9-2 record against them over the past four years. So to be fair, Minnesota doesn't have it all that rough, with just UMD and Wisconsin - and their 9 NCAA championships notwithstanding - to contend with.

It's funny you mention that - BU has had a way of kneecapping BC (literally and figuratively) even when we're doing well and they're not. Should be some sparks flying at the end of the season with both playing well.

Really nice performance by BC last night. They kind of fell asleep for half a period and let Northeastern back into it, but other than that they were in cruise control.

I never realized just how good Skarupa is until last night. Most of the games I've been to this year were earlier in the season before she really got going. She's got mad dangling skills - maybe not Stack-level, but definitely one of the best puckhandlers I've seen at BC.

What I like the most about the way this team plays is that they are freaking relentless. They are so good at keeping plays alive either along the wall or at the point when opponents try to clear, and then just coming right back at you.

Wasylk had a really nice play last night that kind of demonstrated that. BC had some sustained offensive pressure and NU tried to skate it out of the zone. Skarupa just said "nah" and stole the puck from NU's defenseman with ease at the top of the faceoff circle, then ripped a shot on goal; NU's goalie saved it but a BC player (Mangene I think?) was there for the rebound.

That was REALLY enjoyable to watch last night.

Sunday is going to be huge.

It's funny you mention that; I had the same epiphany last night.

For me it was a play where she was cornered by two NU players deep, and instead of trying to pass it out she basically just walked out of it with the puck attached to her stick with a 2"-long string. Then she was behind the net in the clear free to make a play.

It made an impression. I was like holy crap, this girl might be better than Carpenter.

I can't believe the talent depth on this team. It's like we have like three Thunstroms and two and a half Stacks.

And Boyles is Milner'ing it at the moment. Just awesome.

Not surprising to me. Seen her play on several occasions with the Washington Pride over the years. Sometime last year, one of my buddies, who knows his hockey, suggested, she was the best pure female hockey player he had ever seen. I would not quite go that far personally, but she is the real deal.

When I saw her and Carpenter play on last years US U18 team, they were clearly ahead of the rest of that team in the one game I watched between the US and Canada in the August series.

She must be good, she is currently leading Hockey East as a freshman. In 20 games she has a 18-19-37 line.

Here's to hoping at least one of those two makes it onto the Olympic team next year :D.

Emily Fields goes end to end in OT and dangles past two D before going top shelf for the 4-3 win.

I am always so imprssed by the conditioning of these athletes. To go end to end in an OT of what must have have been a high intensity game. Wish I could have seen it.

I have some cool, calm, collected, and well-thought out responses to that game:

1. AHHHHHHHHHHH HOLY CRAP

That is all.

Even aside from the fact that the end of the game was SO INCREDIBLY AWESOME, that was a great game all around by two really good teams.

I like the white jerseys much better than the Grey Poupon ones.
