Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

On a different note, I know Clarkson didn't have two of its best players, but the Pairwise Rankings don't really care about that & with this win BC is up to #3. Just absolutely massive. Hope the good times keep rolling today at 3.

The Clarkson video feed announcers had a lot of good things to say about BC's power play and puck movement, especially how they'd overload one side and then make a great back door feed to a wide open player for an easy goal. I think they had a couple like that last night.

Not great timing on Clarkson's behalf to have these key NC games when they are missing two of their top three players. Shows the difference they can make.

Would have been better for Clarky to schedule lesser opponents for this weekend, or none at all. A few years ago Cornell was in the same predicament, losing half their team to the then MLP cup. They now don't even bother scheduling games during this weekend. Smart move, as they still have about 5 or 6 players away with the TC U22 team. Harvard does similar scheduling adjustments to work around 4 nations in November. It takes away some of the risk of losing out on pairwise due to missing key players. Easier said than done, but something to consider if you plan to be in the Hunt.

Having said that, congrats to BC on taking full advantage. That is what good teams tend to do.

BC was on the wrong end of that last year, losing to SLU while Alex Carpenter was away at the U-18 Worlds.

It is tricky for the Ivies to not schedule games this weekend and also avoid any conflicts during 4 Nations, especially given that Hockey Canada usually requires their players to miss the weekend before 4 Nations as well. The Ivy League teams don't have that many weeks in their schedule as it is.

As I indicated, easier said than done. Cornell seems to schedule a lot of mid week games with teams like Colgate, Syracuse, Clarkson and SLU over the last couple of years to make this work. Bit easier for Harvard to manage this with so many teams nearby.

On the way back from Dartmouth in 2007 we got pulled over for a broken taillight. After explaining where we came from, the cop spent the next 10 minutes asking Grant questions about BC because his son was a junior in high school and wanted to apply to BC. Fun times.

Didn't I make that trip with you?

God bless the Mecco Cup.

Did you think that last year when Schelling was gone and NU lost to SLU, a result that likely kept the Huskies out of the NCAAs? :p

Timing is everything I guess.

Did you?? I know we went with two vans full of people...

I made a trip up there with you I thought late fall '07 when it was one car and 5 of us, very cramped in the back lol

I wasn't aware that BC, Clarky, and SLU had made the jump to Ivy status. I know BC folks like everyone to think they are Lvy league :-)

ARM is not a BC fan ;) At least not on the outside, anyway.

Also I'm pretty sure he was making two separate points.

I like their color scheme; that must count for something.

I hoped that a new paragraph was sufficient, but in the future I'll have to make greater use of phrases such as, "On another topic," or explicitly reference Harvard and Cornell as OnMAA did.

Or you could try numbering each paragraph, which may help TTT, i.e. 2 is different than 1. ;)

TTT gets it, however, so don't go starting another "scientific" debate with him.

In all seriousness I *would* like to point out that Minnesota hasn't played a single team in the top 7. ZERO! Just sayin'.

It's true. They did play UNH a couple times though, a team those vaunted 2 through 6 teams manage to struggle against. Those teams would have trouble against the Wisconsin team that I saw in December. It's likely that none of the other WCHA teams gets into your magical "top 7" unless one of them can beat Minnesota a couple of times. So by your logic, the only way the Gophers record can be legit is if they lose a couple of games. It doesn't matter if they handled a SLU team in regulation instead of needing OT. If I had a vote in the poll, I'd have BC number one and put Minnesota down around eight, which is where a team that hasn't played anyone in the top 7 belongs.

You forgot to put that last sentence in red.
