Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

Don't know if this should be 2012-2013 or next season, but I wanted to use this thread rather than the Beantown thread for the Beantown final comments that are completely in the tank for BC.

There was a lot to like about these last few games for BC fans.

1) Dru Burns as coach smartly put Alex Carpenter on a line with Amanda Pelkey and Paige Savage to let next year's Eagles play together.

2) The Skarupa / Field combo continues to be able to make whoever their linemate is look like a genius. They did it for Dana Trivigno in the postseason and they did it in this tournament for Kate Leary, who made a real impact. (Not to minimize either Trivigno or Leary's talents, but they both shone when they were on that line). Skarupa's speed continues to be a thing of wonder and the tightness of the passing between her and Field is a joy. The interesting question for Katie King Crowley next year is whether to keep them together and paint a big red target on their line, or split them up to make things harder for the opposing D.

3) Two goals for Taylor Wasylk, one a solid wrist shot over Kerrin Sperry's shoulder, one the ENG at the end of the game. She struggled last year after two very solid underclass years; hopefully this will un-snakebite her. With Melissa Bizzarri's continuing solidity, there should be a lot of production from the seniors.

4) The defending was very good -- they managed to keep an offensively talented "BU" team a long way away from the crease most of the time -- but this rested mostly on non-BC players (or Dru Burns, who's graduated). Jackie Young and incoming freshman Julie Fish were in there, though, and this will surely be a good headstart for Fish on D-1 defense.

5) Finally, some hardware this season! Though in this case hardware = t-shirts. Still, hopefully it will give the team some momentum going into 13/14.

Re: Boston College Women's Hockey - 2012-2013 Season Thread

I wish I had known this was basically teams stacked with college players, I might have shown up for some!

As for Skarupa/Field... I think you answered your own question. If they're making player #3 look better by playing on the same line, I think they need to play on the same line.

Ah, what could have been, if Carpenter had gotten snubbed by Team USA... we'd be looking at another Minnesota-like season, but this time on the east coast.

Keep an eye out for it next year, the college division is very good. And if you're coming, make sure you show up on time for your games -- they start right on time and a lot of the games are a single 30-minute period, so if you're late you'll miss most of it.

Nice to see Bolden and Burns selected for the Blades. Does anyone know how likely they are to actually play? Is Bolden still based in Boston?
