even for fashionably late BC fans, this one set the standard.:( the place was nearly empty at the start ,as usual, but then midway through the first the flood gates opened:D..........unbelievable turnout by the students , AGAIN! . my post hoping for 7K at Conte was lost in the USCHO meltdown last night but attendance was 6821, another great crowd. I thought they played an ok first 40 minutes then were just flying around in the 3rd. S Whitney was skating like he was on fire all night. I think also that Jerry still hasn't stepped on the pedal as yet but he's thinking about it;)

p.s. congrats to the future Mr. & Mrs. TTT20!

One of the better games they have played in a month. For most of the 3rd they were simply toying with them.

JD thank you for the explanation on the hit, HE officiating is such a joke, as I always say I can't wait until we get out of the shackles of HE officiating.

Oh and abt the late arriving crowd apparently the Pike was absolutely brutal

Thought they all looked very smooth and comfortable out there last night. Even with only a one goal lead for a relatively long period of time I never felt threatened by UMASS.Samuelsson's first was a beautiful goal. A great shot. Good to see him get a couple. Looking forward to Monday night!

So what's the deal on Kreider, figured he'd have 20 goals by now? Is he just having bad puck luck or has he regressed some?

yeah, i agree, even with only a goal lead they weren't threatened. that's what i took out of that last night, they were very tight defensivley, almost lockdown though UMass wasnt a great test. It's certainly a nice stepping stone going into monday night..........

Thanks everyone!

And no it wasn't at the game, we didn't go. It was her birthday and her sister was home from college for the weekend.

- The traffic everywhere was horrific. But yet another great crowd... packed again. Props to the UMass nitwits next to me that showed up half way through the game, though. Great job. Then we got a treat from them that included standing up anytime they got a puck anywhere near the net as they looked for a moral victory goal , in the waning minutes of a blowout. Terrific!

- S Whitney definitely was great last night. He had one shift where he just kept spinning around with the puck and UMass players would come at him, he'd shield the puck and turn, another guy would come and he would do the same thing.

- I really like Arnold. This guy's going to be an awesome 4 year player for us (hopefully).

- J Hayes and Kreider really cycle well. That's about all I can say about Kreider. He's cycling well. He still has speed through the neutral zone and sometimes cuts in after turning the corner but goalies go paddle down on him now 100% of the time and he has no shot at scoring goals like this now. I'm somewhat underwhelmed by Kreider this year. He should stay for another year.

Not regressing or puck luck, just not scoring. When he starts driving to the net he'll start lighting it up. Hasn't done that thus far (although he did last night). The 30' wristers just ain't happening (I'll bet he's somewhere around 2 for 50 on the 30 footers).

This team is very scary when they drive hard to the net. They did it much of the night last night and they looked great. On the first goal, Joe Whitney drove hard on net from the left circle and stuffed it in on a backhand past Dainton. There were some scrums where we had 5 guys crashing, trying to stuff it in. Tournament mode.

I've been telling a people over the last couple weeks that I think Steve Whit is our next superstar.
Had not been overly impressed with S. Whitney since he got here... until now. He's looked very good this second half, seeing the ice, going to the net, overall pain in the butt on the defensive end. Reminds me a little of S. Gionta right now. Would love to see him develop into a B. Gionta. :)

Not that I'm a coach or trying to be funny, but if he lights it up when he drives the net, wouldn't it make sense for someone to advise him of that fact?? :)

Steve has played great since that benching.

With regards to Kreider, I'm happy to see he's driving to the net more than unleashing his shots from the circle. He's got a great shot but he should use his size & speed and drive to the net (last time I said this in the following game he scored on one of those shots from the circle...). He should stick around another year.

Wey impressed me last night as well (Jerry juggled the D pairings, not sure if he did that vs. UML).

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

A couple things on that hit...

1) I didn't see any head contact. Looked like he got him in the chest with a legal hit.
2) Neither ref put their arm in the air at ANY point. It's getting to the point now in college hockey where even if someone lays a clean check, if the other person is the least bit shaken up, the refs have to get together and come up with a call.
3) After all that, I was expecting maybe a two minute penalty for charging...five minutes and a game? ***? In the first period no less of a scoreless game. With another BC penalty on the same play, that type of decision could have had a major impact on the game. I just don't understand what these refs see sometimes.

Nice to see Samuelsson pot a couple. Now has a 3-8-11 line in 25 games. Last year, in 42 games, he had a 1-13-14 line. If you project out over 42 games, he's on pace for 5-13-18. Not bad at all for someone we were told incessantly had no offensive game :p

It's embarassing. It completely takes away from the sport. I like a nice big check even if it is against a BC player. That is what is great about the sport, but it seems the NCAA hockey is becoming a "No Contact At All" sport.

The thing about Kreider that I like is that he isn't forcing anything. Usually you see players who are struggling to score try to take and make more plays for themselves, but Kreider is definitely not doing that. He is still creating for his linemates.

I was trying to think of how to answer the question on Kreider and I completely agree with you. Hasn't regressed and it's not that he's not having puck luck. He has the speed, moves, shot--all of it. If he crashes the net more like last night and works to get in better shooting areas on the ice rather than just a bad angle coming down the wing, he will score more goals. I still think he'll go on a scoring run like last year, but I never even thought he'd score 20 this year, nevermind have 20 right now. I had him pegged for 18 on the season.

Yep, I can't remember a game where BC took the puck to the net as much as they did tonight. Have to think it's something the coaches saw on tape against UMass or simply got that point across in practice. Mix that in enough to get the d thinking you might do that and you'll open up even more things.

Took a couple bad penalties, but ya, also had some great shifts. Just need to see it on a consistent basis. He might be this team's best stick handler, but it's not translating on the scoresheet. What do people think his ceiling really is? Can he put up 15 goals in a season? I'm just not sold on that.

(Jerry juggled the D pairings, not sure if he did that vs. UML).

Hmm well he had to without Cross, no?

Pretty much does the same thing when he is lugging the puck, Needs to develop some moves and a better handle, shooting from the wing above the dots is not going to score many goals.
