Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

Not an elite skater? Might be the best skater in league next year. Toronto pro scouts rated him higher then Kreider as a skater, which is a scary thought.

then why didn't they draft him (or any other team for that matter). kreider was a first round pick almost entirely for his skating skills - he is admittedly still honing a lot of other parts of his offensive game. so i would imagine if lyles was a much better skater, SOMEONE would take a flier on him in the 7 rounds, no?

and last year, BC had plenty of issues on the blueline with wey getting hurt multiple times and cross out with injury as well. Lyles got plenty of chances to prove he could be smart in his own end and just never got the job done. even in the playoffs, York dressed Alber at forward and Lyles on defense - by the end of the game, Alber was on defense and Kreider was double shifting at forward.

Clearly, all those NHL teams who passed on him thru 6+ rounds spend too much time "in their mother's basements".

he was a hooking call almost every time on the ice.

and kenny, it is rather ignorant to disregard the poor execution against lowell by saying this team knows how to win but then go on to predict they lose the very next game because bu is playing so well. no?

Not at all. It's very hard to beat a team 3 times in a season, nevermind 4 times. Yes, they do know how to win and they have proven it, just like BU has proven they know how to win in the Beanpot. Not ignorant, just playing the odds.

This is the math major equivalent of my signature... ugh.

just like BU has proven they know how to win in the Beanpot.

Fun fact: BU doesn't have a single player on their roster with more than 1 Piszpot.

BC senior class: 2 Piszpots
BU senior class: 1 Piszpot

BC junior class: 1 Piszpot
BU junior class: 1 Piszpot

BC sophomore class: 1 Piszpot
BU sophomore class: 0 Piszpots

Plus BC is not playing their best right now, but hopefully York and the captains will inform the team that. They must respect the rivalry and know anything can happen between these 2 teams. Should be a nailbiting game and could be close like the last game.

I knew JD, Carmine and the boys would be happy to see how he did in first game/last night after hooking on with Lowell. Reports were that he was though exausted as he fell down 35+ times, per period

Vernon 2 Nanaimo 1 (Overtime)
I was at tonight's BCHL game as Vernon defeated Nanaimo 2-1 in overtime in front of 1,437 fans at the Wesbild Centre

Four on four Malcom Lyles did all the work going in and around three Clipper players before dishing off to David Robinson in front who tipped Lyles shot just wide of the goal on a great scoring play. Vernon just wasnt getting the bounces tonight

Overtime: The Vipers were heading into their third straight overtime game after knocking off Prince George and Trail, both in overtime over the weekend. Not much action in the opening few minutes before Vernon would get a three on one but back come the Clippers who charged back into the play breaking up the odd man rush as the Vipers were unable to record a shot. Malcolm Lyles big shot from the point was stopped by Charles-Andre Pelletier who had to look behind him to make sure he had the puck. Marcus Basara then cut wide and went hard towards the goal but was stopped by Charles-Andre Pelletier who was very solid all night. When it looked like we were heading to double overtime Kyle Murphy and Malcolm Lyles with some nice passing allowed Lyles to skate in over the Nanaimo blueline, make a quick move and then rip his low shot fivehole past Charles-Andre Pelletier at 4:59 giving the Vipers their third straight victory as Vernon's bench jumped onto the ice. Vernon outshot Nanaimo 4-1.

Top Players: (Vernon)

Malmolm Lyles (Overtime winner) Was Vernon's best player this evening. For the second straight home game, Lyles has been the Vipers best player. Earlier today Lyles committed to play for the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks next season carried the play alot tonight, made some nice heads up plays, jumped up into the play, acting like a forward and played well defensively all at the sametime. Lyles was very good one on one and was very hard to knock off the puck tonight. Had a few good scoring chances.

Malcolm Lyles scored with 1.1 seconds remaining in the first overtime period to defeat the Nanaimo Clippers 2-1 on Wednesday.

For the third straight game, the Vipers won in overtime, a trend that concerns Vipers’ head man, Mark Ferner: “We have to bear down as hard in the first period as we do when the game’s on the line. You never know which play is going to make the difference in the game.”

His words nearly proved prophetic after the Vipers were unable to convert several good scoring chances in the first two periods.

On the power play midway through the first period, Kyle Murphy’s sharp angle shot glanced off both posts and out. A few seconds later, he had the same shot from just outside Charles-Andre Pelletier’s crease. This time, Pelletier slid across to rob the Viper centre.

The Clippers had started the game well, registering the game’s first five shots before a Gerry Fitzgerald penalty at 7:13 helped the Vipers turn the tide. However, Pelletier played well throughout the period and the game was scoreless going into the first intermission.

Again, the Clippers started the second period with a strong forecheck, a strategy that resulted in a Mike Domsodi goal at 6:34. Netminder Blake Voth stopped shots by Brodie Jamieson and Victor Newell, but Domsodi collected a juicy rebound and deposited a backhand past Voth.

Nanaimo had chances to increase the lead, with four power plays in the second and third periods, but the Vipers allowed only one scoring chance while down a man. They also came close to scoring shorthanded, but Patrick McGillis missed the top of the net by a couple of inches.

The Vipers showed more urgency in the third period, but were unable to break the goose egg until David Robinson scored with 4:47 remaining in regulation.

Bryce Kakoske made the play, finding a rebound deep in his team’s zone and carrying the puck all the way to the high slot in front of Pelletier. Kakoske’s low shot came off Pelletier, but first Kyle Murphy and then David Robinson made contact and the game was tied.

In the overtime, the Vipers generated four of the five scoring chances, including Lyles’s winner.

In his words, “Kyle won a tough faceoff back to me by our net and I skated it up ice and gave it to Pat McGillis. He got it across their line to the faceoff dot. Somehow he slipped it to me through the defenceman’s skates. I just shot it low and it went in on the far side.”

Lyles, who had a strong two-way game for the Vipers is having a good week. On Tuesday, he committed to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell for next year. Coach Ferner believes that “Malcolm has become one of the premier defencemen in this league because of his athleticism and his growing knowledge of his position. But I believe that we haven’t yet seen the best of Malcolm Lyles; he’s getting better all the time.”

So if you're ranking to defenseman, would you have Lyles somewhere between Lidstrom and Keith? Clearly you think he's better than Chara due to the fact that he skates like the wind lubed with the same stuff you keep in the back of your van...

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

Cripes, if Lyles plans on playing that type of game at Lowell he's going to be a defensive liability and a +/- disaster.

I feel bad for the UML fans who are buying the hokydad hype (I have heard of Lyles hype from you before, no?) and are under the impression they are getting some A+ blue chipper prospect here.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

again Nick, its not my hype but that of the Vernon coach, who knows exactly what he is talking about and that of other schools and scouts. Obviously you cant get away with the same stuff in Hockeyeast that you can in juniors. But while there, it is great for development and what he is doing, very few if any others in league can,.

Slash, I had him between Mike Green and Lidstrom, a little more physical than Keith.

Hokydad, I dont think anyone blames you for thinking this kid is good, but you go over the top with these type of things and make yourself look foolish. Will he play well at Lowell? I hope so, he was a good kid when he was here, but he couldn't beat out Patch Alber and transferred. I think your expectations are a little unreasonable. Believe it or not, I hope you're right and he has a fantastic career at UML, but you don't "learn to skate" in one year. It doesn't work that way. Someone made a good point that if he was this good, why he went through 6+ rounds before getting drafted.

Agreed but to a point. He didnt learn to skate in 1 year. He was an elite skater the day he walked into BC, which was exactly why JY recruited him and brought him in. He was not drafted because he set on the bench or in the stands at BC his draft year. Its not a him vs Patch Alber thing either, I am sure they were friends and Patch has earned everything he has gotten. Great story for a recruited walk on to do that well, great story.
If used right, and Lowell I am sure will talk with Vernon and try and do just that, he will be an impact player in the league. If not, he took a crack at it and at least knows he did everything he could. Lets hope this is a good ending as well.

That's all good and well but when you paste the thing 40 times all over the message board and then argue over and over about it, there's no possible way you can hide behind the Vernon coach as the one doing the hyping. This guy gave his honest assessment once or twice. That's not hyping the kid up.

Did you get this from a newspaper article? Or did you write this up? Appears to me that this is someone's work that was not quote or citied.
