Lastly, and then I am officially off my soapbox and heading out to drink off this storm.....there is no precedent that this team's occasional clunker will lead to tournament or playoff disappointment. Results are results and BC has proven to their followers to not sweat the small stuff. That's why I do not waste my time worrying about a tough weekend in Maine or ugly wins, because it has never been consistent under this regime.

They must have been reading this board.
See?... it works! :)

Best fan base in college hockey. We don't throw our team under the bus, we constructively criticize to help raise them to a higher level.

That being said, the Whitney-Gibbons-Atkinson line has only 3 even strength goals since January 1st. This Friday and Monday would be a good time for them to step it up, wouldn't ya say? ;) :D

It's funny... I met BrightonJon Saturday at Lowell (nice guy... he posted here last year but has a new-born so he doesn't post much now). We were actually sitting together by chance. I mentioned to him about the Gibbons line not scoring at even strength a lot lately, and don't they go and light the lamp 4:43 into the game. :)

Another good example of how the fan base 'negativity' challenges their team to succeed. :p

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

How many NCAA games has John Muse lost? What about Gibbons or J. Whitney? When the chips are down this group of players has proven themselves. You cannot argue that plain and simple.

Slow down here, I think you're taking this further than it needs to go. I haven't seen anyone question their ability in big games and I think most here anticipate that when push comes to shove, this team will play well down the stretch, win or lose. To be fair, however, if we wanna talk about how they haven't lost an NCAA tourney game, we also need to point out the disappointing 2008-2009 season. In essence, BC did in fact lose a win or go home game against BU at the Garden. Also, the three individuals you mentioned regressed in their sophomore year.

I guess my response is why focus on the negative? If anyone on this board has gone through a college hockey season at any level, you would understand it's tough to stay dominant no matter what. There will be off games, see BC at Maine, but when those off games result in a wins, why focus on the negative? Good teams focus on what they did right. This team has proven they can win games playing beautifully, but even better, they have shown they can win the gritty games as well. In fact, the Friday night home televised game against PC was an ugly win, too many giveaways and turnovers, but the result was BC 4 PC 1. As hard as it is to win in this league, I would never describe any win as horrible. Some people do, some people don't, that's okay it was meant to be that way.

I don't think people are focusing on the negative. I think it's still as simple as being happy with the outcome of the game, but realizing there are things that need improvement. Isn't that common in any sport? I completely disagree with "good teams focus on what they did right". You yourself admit that in the PC game, they turned the puck over too much. Is simply mentioning that "focusing on the negative"?

Here's a gut prediction for you, I think they lose Monday night against BU. I hope they don't, but if I'm a betting man, I wager with the gut and not the heart. BU has been playing inspired hockey lately, they always come to play for this tourney, and it's very difficult to beat a time that many times in a row regardless of who it is.

Stop being so negative!!! If this team is as equipped for the big stage as all of us think, I'll be disappointed if they don't take care of a younger, inexperienced, inferior BU team.

Ha, whatever helps! I'm more inclined to believe it had something to do with the coaches going over what they needed to improve on.

I agree. I just don't think people are "sweating the small stuff". It's just your normal everyday commentary after specific games. If you don't want any part of that, fine, but I don't think it should be discouraged.

Question for you guys if I may ... I see Malcolm Lyles has committed to UML for next year. He had played for BC as an 18 year old freshman, so I'm assuming he'll be heading to Lowell as a sophomore. I know he only played 5 games, but was curious what you guys knew about him? Thanks...

I think he was at BC two years, so he should have two years of eligibility left.

You are correct, the BC site only shows his player bio with one year so I was mistaken.

Very, very raw. Undersized d-man, but very quick. Not an elite skater, but can jump into the play/make a play. Was hoping to see more of him, but the biggest thing is, he needs ice time. A little to jumpy at times, getting himself out of position, but if he gets a chance to play at UML, I think he can turn into a decent bottom pairing guy. I'm definitely interested to see how he does.

He's doing great with Vernon. You should be very happy.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

"Jumpy" seems to be a pretty good description of his game as I remember it. Seemed to never really settle in and made a lot of bad decisions/passes with the puck, maybe due to a lack of confidence or playing time. Quick skater, small but still physical. Unless he improved a great deal, he's a 5th or 6th D-man at best.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

he was a hooking call almost every time on the ice.

and kenny, it is rather ignorant to disregard the poor execution against lowell by saying this team knows how to win but then go on to predict they lose the very next game because bu is playing so well. no?

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

Guys, if BC peaked now, they'd be... BU?

Your fan base will increase by at least one.
Hokydad loves him.

Wishing all the best and good luck to Malcolm.

Not an elite skater? Might be the best skater in league next year. Toronto pro scouts rated him higher then Kreider as a skater, which is a scary thought.

These were the comments on him from USHR when he hooked on with BC, who had watched for years...
Deerfield Academy 5’11”, 190 lb. senior RD Malcolm Lyles has committed to Boston College for fall ‘08.

A 7/20/90 birthdate from Miami Gardens, Florida, Lyles, who is also a good football player, is a terrific skater with great balance. In 25 games last season, he had a 5-3-8 line in 25 games. He’ll be a depth player with the Eagles, and will compete for playing time.

Ivy schools like Princeton, Dartmouth, and Yale were also interested in Lyles, who played well at the Select 17s in July (see USHR News, 7/16/07).

Lyles is the younger brother of former Deerfield forward Milton Lyles, who was also an excellent skater and is now at North Carolina as a lacrosse player.

He was jumpy, out of position and 100% unsure of himself. After spending a year with Vernon and their coaching staff, he is ready. Never had anyone spend much time with him, incluidng BC on the position. Always let him do what he wanted, I.e. run around because he was athletic and a great skater. Always could get job done. He now has slowed down, figured it out and is an impact dman vs "more athletic".

Very nice pick up for Lowell. He also spent about 20 days with Doug Houda of the Boston Bruins last summer in a college/pro group and will so again this summer. He will be ready and will be a top 4 D and an impact in league. Just look at what Vernon has done with players and look at thier impact in Hockey East and D 1. The HC there is a true teacher. Lyles will be no different.

The only issue at BC was that he was not ready and BC did not have time to teach as they were busy taking a run at natl championships. Pretty bold move to leave, take a crack at jrs and coming back with a new team.

Don't believe either of those statements.

What had a 5:00 mites practice to check out?

Showed some promise, he couldn't break the lineup. I hope he does well for UML. It'll be good to see him in Hockey East again.

Not an elite skater?

IMO, from what I saw while he was here at BC, no, not an elite skater. Being fast doesn't make you an elite skater. Brian Dumoulin is an elite skater, yet is nowhere near as fast.

Never had anyone spend much time with him, incluidng BC on the position.

Just curious, how many BC practices did you attend before they caught on to your stalking ways?

Don't believe either of those statements.

Neither do I, but that comes with the territory considering how much garbage he throws out there.

Yup and the pros do as well.

What constitutes a pro? I haven't been able to find anything to confirm this. Enough with your unsubstantiated BS. Just give your opinion on the player and leave other unnamed "sources" out of it.
