Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

Looking at it right now, you'd have to think the most likely matchup for BC is UMass in the 2/7 series (same as last year, but against a much worse UMass team).

Even with the games in hand, UNH has a tougher schedule ahead with 2 vs. Maine 2 vs. Merrimack and 2 vs BC. The games vs. NU will not be easy and even with UVM being awful, they have to go up there which has always been a tough place to play. Not that its important to BC, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the regular season with an easier road out (only the 2 games vs. UNH are against home-ice contenders, and I'd be surprised if UNH takes any more than 2 points that weekend). Good luck w/ the Beanpot!

agree but they've played much better of late (3-2-1 last 6). I didnt think they looked that bad on friday night vs NU but i only say the first half of the game

#1 in this week's poll. Not worth much, but the way the team has been playing its very well deserved.

I thought the team was horrible at Lowell. They had way too many defensive zone turnovers.

i agree .........and,this team isn't close to playing to their full potential yet and not really close to what will be needed to win it all..........but they're working on it:)

wonderful:mad::eek:

i know you've made it well known that you dont like being #1...but why?

i would rather be winning games, even ugly ones, then losing. given the run we've been lucky to experience lately i don't know why anyone would be unhappy.

than?

Horrible is a strong word for a 5-2 win on the road.

it was actually 5-1 and yes it was a horrible, sloppy affair. 2-1 game in the third with lowell on the powerplay before cam scored the backbreaker.. then things unraveled even more for lowell. but the game was very much in doubt for the first 50 minutes. that cant be happening when you are playing a team as statistically poor as lowell - sure they are better than their record suggests but couldnt you say the same thing about BC?

And so it begins....although a little early this year, but the same old "this team is so good we need to find something to complain about" fans that weren't happy last year. Another 2 points on the road against an always gritty UML team, another week of climbing the polls, and another 2nd half streak, but style points are what matters to fans on this board. In fact, no one was pleased last year when they won the HE playoffs, no one was pleased when they beat a good Yale team in a wild high scoring NCAA affair, and no one will be happy this year unless every game is complete and utter domination.

Yes, this team gives the puck away too much and yes they have the ability to play better, but if last year proved anything it's that all of you that said, "if BC plays like that in the NCAA tourney, they will get beat", or "if they play like that in the frozen four they will get beat" were wrong. Could it be that they just know how to win hockey games?

I hope they continue to play horrible on the road, as long as the result is a 5-1 win.

Kenny, you continue to show the inability to separate being happy the team won and realizing that there are things to improve on. I'm not sure why you keep hanging your hat on the FF example from last year. The fact of the matter is BC DID play better than they did against Maine/Yale in the FF--by a wide margin. That's why they won.

Tell ya what.. they played a similar game at Maine a few weeks ago and got their azzes smoked!
Where were your words of wisdom after that one?

In your world, BC doesn't need to improve their game because they just know how to win. Your hindsight is impeccable.

C'mon Kenny... enough of the 20/20 after the fact crap. Give us some foresight. Stick your neck out there. Make some predictions. Tell us BC doesn't have to improve their game... tell us they'll just keep winning because they know how to win. Tell us some scores. Tell us a Maine type loss will never happen again, especially against the Denvers, NoDaks or Michigans of the world, because BC just knows how to win.

Some of us happen to disagree that it's that simple. Deal with it.

of course i like winning and i like winning ugly. i like it more when we are hanging at say 6-7 spot heading into the HE tourney, kinda like hiding in the back of the line, as much as BC can ever do that. i just think it is really hard to be #1 this early and stay there until the end. also, being the superstitous type you rarely see a team be #1 fairly early and stay there through the NCAA's , save for 2009 BU and then again, that team's best hockey was already played before the HE tourney , IMO but they were just so much better than anyone else that it didnt matter...............

Re: Boston College Hockey 2010-2011, Part II - We Still Have Jerry York. Sorry, Every

I met the coach of the UMass Lowell team in the Apple Store in Nashua before the season started. Nice guy. He lives next to my brother-in-law in Westford. I commended his team for the way they played against BC last year...getting the measure of them practically more than any other Hockey East team did. Although I'm happy to see BC evolve after the holidays as they seemingly always do, I feel a bit sad to see Lowell take a step backwards. I suppose Merrimack is this year's 'Lowell.' Come NCAA time, a rising tide floats all boats; it would be nice to see a couple Hockey East schools placed in Manchester.

Of course the off games like at Maine will happen, but one question.....How many NCAA games has John Muse lost? What about Gibbons or J. Whitney? When the chips are down this group of players has proven themselves. You cannot argue that plain and simple. A 5-1 win at Lowell is a good win. As ugly as it is, was, could have been, it's 2 points and another league win.

I guess my response is why focus on the negative? If anyone on this board has gone through a college hockey season at any level, you would understand it's tough to stay dominant no matter what. There will be off games, see BC at Maine, but when those off games result in a wins, why focus on the negative? Good teams focus on what they did right. This team has proven they can win games playing beautifully, but even better, they have shown they can win the gritty games as well. In fact, the Friday night home televised game against PC was an ugly win, too many giveaways and turnovers, but the result was BC 4 PC 1. As hard as it is to win in this league, I would never describe any win as horrible. Some people do, some people don't, that's okay it was meant to be that way.

Here's a gut prediction for you, I think they lose Monday night against BU. I hope they don't, but if I'm a betting man, I wager with the gut and not the heart. BU has been playing inspired hockey lately, they always come to play for this tourney, and it's very difficult to beat a time that many times in a row regardless of who it is.

They must have been reading this board.

Hopefully they don't play like that against good teams like Maine, BC, and BU, etc. Sloppy hockey and mistakes will do them in. A team like Merrimack would have taken advantage of mistakes and for that matter they have with 2 wins against the vaunted BC team.

All good points. But saying a win is ugly doesn't mean folks want to throw it back. We know any win is a good win, even if it is ugly. Some just like to trow their analysis out there... nothing wrong with that.

Yes, good teams/coaches do focus on what they did right. But they also focus heavily on their mistakes, on what they need to do to improve. Some of us folks are just trying to help them out in that area. :D

You want ugly? Should have been up in Hanover, NH over the holidays. Minus Dumoulin, Wey and Alber on D, and Kreider. This teams talent gutted out 2 very ugly, but beautiful w's. A lot of that has something to do with what no other team has, and we do have... John Muse. The kid is just fabulous when he has to be (and I think he wins the 2011 Beanpot). :)

Go Eagles!
