Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I agree with your post BCHF. I do get a feeling this team is full of talent and that it is motivated this year. We'll see hiccups along the way. Might be similar to 1997-1998 when Gionta came in with that monster class.

I think in the end they're going to put a hurting on a lot of teams. And with this speed, and what we've seen BC do to a lot of those western teams already in the NCAAs, look out!

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Unfortunately Nick, tranqualizers don't work for me...perhaps I should just be put down permanently! Seriously, I just think this is a special group that is going to mess with our heads from game to game for a while, and then really be special down the road as they mature. All my posts have spoken to the potential of this group.

I am well aware that this is college hockey at its' highest level. But youth still takes time to mature at any level including the highest professional level. This club's opportunities for improvement are many and with time they will deliver at higher levels of consistency on a more regular basis for sure.

I'll back off, no harm ever meant!:)
Hey... no backing off. It's all good. Appreciate your input. :)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I still want to see how the kids fair against strong physical play similar to ND and Merrimack but with more firepower like Minnesota, North Dakota, etc. But we will have to wait and see that down the road.

I see defensemen "figuring it out" shift by shift, situation by situation. Not always making the right decision but processing the result just the same good or bad. That is money in the bank and will occur in the background for the most part. Success will be measured in reduced shots on cage, lower GAA, fewer odd man breaks, and more decisive play by the three freshman.

In the mean time, the kids up front will become more and more proficient in shooting accuracy and goal output. That is more evident and is already happening in my opinion.

It will be very interesting to see how they respond to this weekends challenge against Vermont. Let's hope the come hungry and edgy!:)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Point of tangential interest to BC alums:

If you reached a breaking point with BC's 6th fund raising call last night, you can call 617-552-4400 to be taken off the list.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Some of us have seen many BC games each season, home and away, over many years. We are passionate about the team. And some of us like to call 'em like we see' em, regardless of the youth of the team. This ain't mites... this is Boston College Hockey. ;)

I don’t really see anyone hammering anyone on here, just a little constructive criticism.

Exactly. There's nothing wrong with pointing out that they let a win slip away Friday night. Following it up with a good win results in a very good weekend. This team needs to reestablish its home ice advantage. 2-0 is a good start, but this weekend is huge. And for early tiebreaker considerations, three points would be the minimum.

Is Milner good enough to challenge Muse for starts?

Well, I think we'll see Milner more. I could see him starting Sunday afternoon following a night game.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Anybody looking for two for Sundays game. I've got a pair I'm not using. Section C. Four rows off the glass. Not looking to make a profit. Just don't want to eat 'em. Face value.

Agree with all of this. Have seen improvement in the young forwards ability to skate through or avoid the check that will pin them to the boards.

The D improves with each game. The process will be more seamless with a full team effort in the defensive end.

Scoring... I have been thinking since the 2nd Merrimack game that it will take an exceptional defensive and goaltending effort by the opposition to hold this Eagles team to under 3 goals. The team showed a lot of heart in that loss. Down 5-1 early in the 3rd, they could have closed up shop for the night. Instead, they worked their butts off and battled back to make a game of it to the end. After witnessing that game, I will never count this team out of any game until the final buzzer.

They've gotten their SOG totals to the 32-36 SOG over the last four games, which is where they should be with their puck handling, speed and passing skills. They're starting to do a very good job of crashing the net from the back side as well. Currently averaging 3.33 G/GM, it's scary to think they could be a lot better in goal output, but I believe it's possible that we ain't seen nothing yet. :)

Produce 30-34 SOG/AVG vs VT and I think the Eagles will have a very successful weekend.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

got to get that Whitney/Atkinson/Whitney line going. Gibbons and Smith cant do all the work.

my very simplistic thinking is that if you get 1 PPG and 1 goal from your defensemen each game, your forwards only need to get 1 for you to win most games... and anything else is bonus.

BC's strategy was never to have defensemen shoot the puck, so my theory always seemed stupid. now it seems more and more likely (though the defensemen goals are coming on the ppg!)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Saturday's lineup was:

Carey-Gibbons-Smith
J. Whitney-Hayes-S. Whitney
Almeida-Price-Lombardi
Kreider-Mullane-C. Atkinson

Dumoulin-Sneep
Cross-Wey
Samuelsson-Lyles

Given the performance, I wouldn't anticipate any changes.

I agree, and with the young blue line and recovering Muse, this could become a scary team by the end of the season and beyond.

This team has the speed and the talent to be the best I've seen in my 4 years. Just needs to develop.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

FWIW, I have two extra tickets to the Friday night game in Orono. They could be free to the right person.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Chesco (Stoneham): Gene, when is the AC going in to Conte? This summer?

Gene DeFilippo: The AC should have been added to Conte Forum when it was built. It would have been very inexpensive to install it at that time. The cost for installing air conditioning will be somewhere between $5.5 and $6 million. At this point, we have other higher priorities than to spend $6 million to put air conditioning into Conte Forum.

Gene when will you find a radio station to broadcast the BC hockey games?

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

the fact they've never had online video is frustrating, but losing the local radio broadcast is simply asinine.
