The things I saw this weekend reinforces that there is a lot to like about this team. We can continue to drone on about the falter at UNH and not recognize these kids for what they are doing so early in the year!
Three points out of four! Three freshman starting in the top six defensively! Youth and inexperience at the college level all over the lines up front! But they come to play and they do compete. They will get better as they get used to the speed and strength at this level.
It was not long ago we were criticizing the power play and look what a few more days of practice with one another has done. Almost every team this club plays will have rosters of kids much much older then us. NU had an 1985 birth year in a couple of positions compared to ours which has 10 freahman of 1990 or 1991 birth years! That club will be playing about the same at tournament time...imagine what BC could look like at tournament time.
Everyone wants to vomit about the one point collected in New Hampshire but what about the valuable lessons learned in that experience for this young club and the staff that is trying to learn what they have to work with. I'd say the result Saturday night proves that this team can and will respond positively to adversity.
I guess my rant comes from how quickly this thread is to "hammer" the flaws of this group when they do not meet the expectations of this knowledgeable group but when they exceed your wildest imagination from a performance perspective you disappear...amazing to me!
I look for this group to get better and struggle from game to game, from player to player, and period to period through Thanksgiving. Then look out!
Vermont should be a blast next weekend. Congratulations to players and staff for tremendous progress in all areas of the game from the previous week. you are a fun club to watch now and should be for the future!
