Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Nice win tonight, they should have got 4 points this weekend but we'll take the 3 points.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

It was a pleasure to actually get to sit and watch six periods of BC hockey this weekend. What most impressed me is this team's ability to move and create space in the offensive zone. This allows them to actually pull off a very high quantity of spiffy plays/moves to create a lot of opportunities. It's been a long time since a BC team had that kind of dominance in the offensive zone. They were dominant for 5 of 6 periods this weekend - a good sign.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Defense is young, very young. Work in progress. If we can get that to be at worst decent in the second half, this team can do some damage.

The individual freshmen on the blue line have all impressed my in different ways, they just need to mesh and improve as a unit.

One things for sure, Cross is our best defensemen and Sneep is a winger playing out of position.

Wow, tough crowd. It's early November and a freshmen laden BC squad scores 9 goals, gets 3 out of 4 points against UNH and NU, and the fans focus on the only negative?

The tie was a bitter pill, but so what. This team had 6 power play goals in 2 games. At this point in the season, you have to focus on the positives and what they are doing well. They are a young team that has been on the ice together for less than two months, they certainly won't be perfect.

That being said, it's refreshing to see them break out offensively.

Great start for a young club.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Excellent performance last night. Three solid periods with a great pace to the game and excellent transition. Excellent team speed and puck movement all game long. No negative carryover whatsoever from Friday's night's debacle. I for one am highly encouraged.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I've been bullish on this team's chances all season , even with the losses and the tough draw I just think this team has way, way, way more jump in its step than last years. If Muse is healthy and the D comes together, they are going to be a ridiculous second half team.

The speed on this team is like nothing I've seen in my four years here. I was just a kid watching on TV during the Gionta-era teams, but I'd imagine you'd have to go back to that point to find this kind of all-around team speed.

The program has gotten smaller and faster. I was at BC during the 4 Gionta years and I don't feel like we were as fast as we are now. This is about as fast as I've ever seen BC. Of course, they had a great blend back then. They could really grind out teams with guys like Hutchins and Caulfield and then bring in the sick forwards to light it up.

That being said, if you think our teams are loaded now, boy oh boy how easy is it to forget how freakin loaded those teams were. I'm not sure we'll ever see a team that loaded between Scuderi, Farkas, Gionta, Mottau, Clemmensen, B. Allen, Kolanos, Bellefuille, Giuliano, Orpik... all on that one 2000 team. SICK!

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

The things I saw this weekend reinforces that there is a lot to like about this team. We can continue to drone on about the falter at UNH and not recognize these kids for what they are doing so early in the year!

Three points out of four! Three freshman starting in the top six defensively! Youth and inexperience at the college level all over the lines up front! But they come to play and they do compete. They will get better as they get used to the speed and strength at this level.

It was not long ago we were criticizing the power play and look what a few more days of practice with one another has done. Almost every team this club plays will have rosters of kids much much older then us. NU had an 1985 birth year in a couple of positions compared to ours which has 10 freahman of 1990 or 1991 birth years! That club will be playing about the same at tournament time...imagine what BC could look like at tournament time.

Everyone wants to vomit about the one point collected in New Hampshire but what about the valuable lessons learned in that experience for this young club and the staff that is trying to learn what they have to work with. I'd say the result Saturday night proves that this team can and will respond positively to adversity.

I guess my rant comes from how quickly this thread is to "hammer" the flaws of this group when they do not meet the expectations of this knowledgeable group but when they exceed your wildest imagination from a performance perspective you disappear...amazing to me!

I look for this group to get better and struggle from game to game, from player to player, and period to period through Thanksgiving. Then look out!

Vermont should be a blast next weekend. Congratulations to players and staff for tremendous progress in all areas of the game from the previous week. you are a fun club to watch now and should be for the future!:)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Don't judge Northeastern on that game. Their fans are not making excuses when they are talking about injuries. Most of the kids will be back in the lineup.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I'm not comparing the talent levels of the two teams, just the team speed. No doubt, those teams were insane and we'll probably never see another team like them again at BC. Just the nature of the way the college game has changed. If there's ever an assembly of talent like that, it will be at Minn or Wisco, and only for one year as everyone goes one and done.

Even last year's BU team, as outstanding as they were, was not as loaded as that group, in terms of both truly great college players and pro prospects.

Some of us have seen many BC games each season, home and away, over many years. We are passionate about the team. And some of us like to call 'em like we see' em, regardless of the youth of the team. This ain't mites... this is Boston College Hockey. ;)

Lessons learned this weekned... score more goals than the other team and you will win.

I don’t really see anyone hammering anyone on here, just a little constructive criticism.

Don’t usually comment on games I haven’t seen with my own eyes. I was at NH, but couldn’t be there Saturday night, but I’m pleased as punch with the win and offensive output. :)

OK… this weekend is water over the dam. Took three points and now it’s time to move on to a very good Vermont team. Gotta bring our ‘A’ game.

Go Eagles!

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Someone stick this newbie BCHF with a tranquilizer dart. BC people disappearing? Not likely, there are only a few of us that aren't banned and are always around.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Unfortunately Nick, tranqualizers don't work for me...perhaps I should just be put down permanently! Seriously, I just think this is a special group that is going to mess with our heads from game to game for a while, and then really be special down the road as they mature. All my posts have spoken to the potential of this group.

I am well aware that this is college hockey at its' highest level. But youth still takes time to mature at any level including the highest professional level. This club's opportunities for improvement are many and with time they will deliver at higher levels of consistency on a more regular basis for sure.

I'll back off, no harm ever meant!:)

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I agree with BCHF's general point.

As for this weekend, Vermont is legit. That was a pretty good tie for them this weekend against a very good Lowell team. They're coming off a dry spell, so I expect to see their best effort.

I think BC takes three points.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Good signs so far regarding Ben Smith. He has 5 goals already compared to last season when he only totaled 6 goals.
