Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I like the look of this team also. I thought we played pretty well up in VT in the loss. Good cycling, possession, skating and the D did a great job getting the puck up ice.

That being said, this team should be averaging closer to 30 SOG per game than the current 19 1/2. With the type of puck control and possession we had at VT, an extra 8-10 SOG were there and may have made a difference. Saw many good opportunities we passed on.

Didn't see the ND game, but was very pleased with the outcome. :)

Really looking forward to Friday night to see this team live.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

This is like asking what time it is and getting the history of clockmaking in Switzerland.

Fortunately for us all, I know less than nothing about the history of clockmaking in Switzerland. I could link you to wikipedia, though.

On-topic content: this post made me miss Hockey-L more than usual.

Wait, I guess that's not really on topic. Anyway, yes, BC's PK improved since their exhibition matches-- but it's only a couple of percentage points higher than Merrimack's own kill and the sample is taken over fewer games (2 non-ex games for BC to Merrimack's 6). I used the exhibition stats because the post I was replying to did, and it did because it gave a larger sample and because he wanted to cite other positive stats over that stretch, instead of just two games (a loss to UVM and a win over ND).

Bonus observation: I'm still not yet used to the idea of Notre Dame playing hockey. When I saw ND in the thread I thought it meant BC had beaten NoDak.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

This looks like a tough weekend series with Merrimack. They beat Vermont who beat BC 4-1. This could be the year Merrimack gets out of the cellar and make a playoff spot.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Apparently, BC is offering a new ticket package, which will be the only way non-season ticket holders will be able to purchase tickets to 1/22/10 BU game. You get the BU game, plus you pick two other games, one in each group. It costs $65.00 per pak. That breaks down as follows:

BU game: $30
Games in first group: $20
Games in second group: $15 (not counting $10 fee per order)

Also, you can ONLY pick one per group.

I know Harvard has done something similar for those who are only interested in the Cornell game; they make them purchase tickets to other games in a package. It will be interesting to see how this will work using the same strategy.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Three games for $75 once you add in the fee? You'd have to be a fool to order that. Each ticket was $20 last year for season ticket holders. No alleged "deal" should come out higher than that per game given how the economy has been down.

I agree, I'm not sure who BC thinks they are. They certainly aren't the dominating force in HE anymore, nor did they ever really fill conte when they were. (Sure the BC BU game sells out but that's about it) you can go see the Bruins for under 30 dollars.

Hahahahaha. Sure thing, kid. I guess if you are just counting on preseason polls and what happened last year then BC isn't a dominating force in HE anymore (plus 1 loss to Vermont this year).

Second, BC has not filled Conte every night. Almost no one does (at least no one in a civilized, developed area) They do fill it for big games and games when they discount tix with students on break. Conte continually is in the top 2 of HE attendance numbers.

Go back to your other topics, like thinking that BC going out and partying had anything to do with them not winning games in the past (and I mean... EVER!?)... as if they were parting on a Friday afternoon or couldn't recover for a 7 pm game the next night.

Maybe it's time for you to head outside for recess. Hmm?

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but someone commented on the Warrior Rink Rat site that Milner will start tonight against Merrimack instead of Muse.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Milner did start, and after a shaky 1st period (not aided by some pretty bad defense) he held his own. Definitely feel much more comfortable with Muse but I think it's important to get Milner more playing time considering that Muse isn't 100%.

I continue to be impressed by Kreider... even if he's one and done, that one year should be great. Carey stood out as well as did the younger Whitney.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

I thought Samuelsson was impressive tonight. He made a half dozen or so noticeably good plays. Dumoulin was not very noticeable, which isn't necessarily a bad thing with a frosh Dman. Wey got burned bad on the breakaway in the first period.

Also, I thought Sneep played great. Better than in any game last season.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

while it appeared that milner was unable to stop a beach ball, some of those merrimaac rushes were the result of some sleepy defensemen.

BC controlled the game otherwise but 3 goals on 6 shots can really put an offense behind the eight ball.

'maac has a decent team, good size and good speed. the game at volpe should be interesting. Probably a lot less scoring with muse back in net.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

watching ben smith fly out there makes me wonder just how badly he was hurting last year. its like two different people.

this team is scary fast.

Re: Boston College Hockey 2009-2010

Another win!

Milner looked early like a goalie making his first start...but he got a win and looked fine in the 2nd and 3rd.

Defense will be fine...Wey getting "burned" means he was in position to deflect the puck but unfortunately for him it bounced up and on to the tape of the forward who skated around him, if that puck goes forward the eagles are going the other way. All the defense continues to do an excellent job getting the rush and transition going through the their end of the ice.

SPEED of the Eagle forwards again puts consistent pressure on opponents all over the ice and will lead to many penalties. PP execution with really begin to open scoring margins on weaker opponents. Those PP goals will be essential against stronger teams come playoff time.

FINISHING their chances at a higher rate coupled with a "next goal" mentality will make this team very difficult to beat going forward.

I continue to like a lot about this team. A win Sunday is important to send a consistency message to the rest of the league.:)

Agreed on Samuelsson. Wey did take a poor angle on that play and almost made the same mistake later in the game. I'm sure he's still adjusting to the speed at this level...

Sneep did have a great goal and broke up that breakaway, but he also caused the breakaway. He still scares me on the PP because he can't handle the puck.

Tough start for Milner, but a solid finish. He was certainly excited. He gave up one questionable goal, but they're gonna need him to play some games.

Carey-Mullane-Hayes...wow. Like that line.

Good post... pretty much spot on.

Lots of upside with this group, and they already look pretty good. :)
