Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

yeah, the 2nd or 3rd game but aren't they dedicating it on friday? ...........:confused:
Actually, it'll be the 5th game. They wanted to get as many bugs out and finishing touches in before they actually had the dedication. The blessing is Friday morning followed by a luncheon at the S. Dining Hall.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Any thoughts on Friday's game?

I like our chances if the team we love to talk about shows up. But if the team we shouldn't talk about, and God knows I love them dearly and thank them from the bottom of my heart for everything they do, shows up, we're screwed, because that team sucks.

Go Eagles!

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I cannot sit by and listen to the hammering of Dumoulin for his performance against BU. He has come under heavy fire because of a less then expected excellent level of performance. Understand, as you clearly state, the enormous amount of burden he has carried along with Tommy Cross with the freakish injury to Wey a few weeks back. Compound that with the high ankle sprain sustained by Alber in Friday's game increasing even more the role of Brian and Tommy. BU's strategy was to punish these two from the outset physically and they worked their plan to their credit perfectly. In a perfect world these two would not be pressing, thinking they had to do it all by themselves but because of their competitive nature they want the responsibility on their shoulders. They will face similar "strategy" from ND this weekend as well. I believe they will be fine and in fact will come out on top in the end scoreboard wise.

Thank these two for their continued contribution to the leadership and success of this team instead of pointing out their failures during the BU game. Experience is always valuable once learned but often painful from a timing perspective. These two and their teammates will be just fine as they continue to develop and grow as a individuals and teammates. Wish Wey and Alber speedy recoveries as they are needed to help this team reach full potential.

With these injuries on D, not sure why Begert is not playing. I guess York feels he's not ready but that puts a lot of pressure and a lot of ice time for Dumoulin and Cross.

ok, cool, thanks...probably to get everything up to snuff for BC's appearance ??:p;).............i'm a bit apprehensive about this game especially after sunday's brutal showing on national TV.we have not fared well against the Irish the last 6-7 years. I can only remember beating them once in fact out there in a close one. ND may have won 4 out of the last five at least..........and gave BC problems even before ND became a national power IIRC

Well at least we beat them when it counted in 2008, for the NCAA. I remember it well being in Denver for that FF. There was the controversial goal by ND that was ruled kicked in and disallowed. Before that, we gave the Sioux a memorable game also in the semi finals game. :)

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

This is a big tilt. Let's hope the 5-0 thrashing serves as motivation. Beating a top 5 ranked team on the road would more than make up for Sunday's loss.

Given their record and York's previous comments about using early season games to get guys experience, his decision to not play bergert is mind bottling

Are you saying that the secret of York's success is his ability to "bottle minds" as well as necks?:D

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Don't have a great feeling going into tonight against a very good team (a team who always plays us tough) in their "dedication" game. Would sure be nice to spoil the party though...

In the end, I just wanna see how they compete in a tough environment.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I don't have a warm fuzzy feeling about tonight either but I have no doubt they will play their hearts out (compete). It's putting the puck in the net that has me concerned. We haven't done that a lot lately.

Note to Mullane and Whitney. When Johnny has the puck behind the net, he doesn't need any help. Cruise 'ur butt into the passing lane out front and he'll put the puck on your tape.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

Just read on EA (posted by claver2010) that Jerry said there'll be some line changes tonight. OK... note to Straight and Whitney (see previous post). ;)

"We're switching up the lines a little bit this week," York said. "Pat Mullane is going to go with Paul Carey and Barry Almeida. Destry Straight is going to switch with Pat and be on a line with Johnny Gaudreau and Steven Whitney. And we're also going to have a pretty good battle for a spot on the fourth line between Tommy Atkinson and Quinn Smith. We haven't had a chance to see Quinn in a game yet but he's closed the gap quite a bit. Cam Spiro's involved in that, too, so that's something we'll have to decide as the week goes on."

On the defensive side, the Eagles are still without junior Patrick Wey. His absence has been felt. With Tommy Cross and Brian Dumoulin playing as much as they are and without a solid option at sixth defenseman, there is some concern in the BC locker room about how to handle the blue liners in coming weeks. York spoke a bit about these worries but also mentioned something positive to come out of the injury to Wey.

"In back-to-back games, the defensemen's minutes are something we're very concerned with," York said. "In this particular game we'll have some time to recover since we don't play the next night. And Issac MacLeod has really stepped up. He's played really well since Pat went down, and that's been one of the positives of that injury. He's had to get more ice time and he's playing a lot better."

York has been using Brooks Dyroff on defense since Wey went down, even though he is listed as a forward. However, Dyroff did not see the ice against BU even though he did dress for the game. York spoke about the sixth defenseman issue and reaffirmed his trust in Dyroff going forward.

"He's still our best option out there for our sixth defenseman," the coach said. "He didn't get a chance out there against BU. But he's there if he's needed. He is willing to do whatever we ask."

We just got screwed harder than any time against BU in the Beanpot. I honestly cannot believe what I just saw.

It seemed like the only people who cared to review the TV replay were the TV people. The refs seemed to have a 'don't-bother-us' attitude. There wasn't anything in that entire sequence that would negate the goal.

In other news, BC has gone over five consecutive periods without scoring a 'real' goal. Astonishingly uncharacteristic of this team.

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

The announcers spend a couple of hours talking about this beautiful new facility but apparently there isn't any interest in showcasing their video review capabilities?

Re: Boston College Eagles 2011-2012 season thread

I think the announcers have surmised that on that 'no-goal' play, the goalie 'touched' the puck and, by so doing, negated what happened afterward.

Or something.

Nice timing here.... ;)

REVENGE!!!!!! :D

Even if it was true (which is inconclusive at best) there's no way he could see that from that angle
