Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Jerry York at Pats practice yesterday and given praise today by Bellichek at news conference

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

how the heck is Northeastern not involved in this Fenway do over?

I would have liked to see them involved as well. Seems like HE wanted to go with the four new england state schools probably because of the large alumini bases in the area and I am sure NU's coaching situation didn't help their cause to play in the game either.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

didn't nu get to play uhn in the girls portion of the first frozen?

i'm not sure what their reasoning was... but uhn v. umo is a big game. that should be the late game and be on tv nationally through the regional sports stations. i would guess that they think umass alums in the region will come. uvm should (better :p) pull their share.

i hope they sell the place.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Frozen fenway will be a success again and I'm glad BC isn't involved. Might not sell out, but will be another good crowd. How does 20,000 sound?

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Also, I wonder what York thinks of those atrocious uniforms

I'll be happy watching it inside on my tv this go round.

yeah, the women's team did..... pardon me for being chauvinistic as we all know it aint the same:eek:;). NU could put 20k in there by themselves playing any school.......NU-UMass or UMass-Lowell vs NU and UNH vs Maine would have been a great doubleheader

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Here's a fun thought for everyone:

Imagine if the SEC takes Florida State and Clemson from the ACC. Many BC fans would want to petition the Big Tenlevelve for an invite...

Think about what WHAT little nugget would do to the college hockey landscape.

EDIT: The FSU/Clemson thing is all speculation, and the "BC petitioning the B1G for an invite" isn't even rumored to happen. It's just an "imagine this..." scenario.

If you really want to go back in time and do a big "what if" think about how different the landscape would look if the Big East had allowed Penn State to join in the mid 80s. I'm guessing with Penn State part of the league, Miami, VT, and BC never would have left and you might now how a league that looks something like this: Miami, VT, BC, Penn State, W. Virginia, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, South Florida. Would have been quite a competitive league and preserved all the traditional northeast rivalries, hindsight being 20/20 and all.

it'll be well over 30k, I bet. Just for the fact that it's at Fenway, they will bang it out. If UNH and UMass football can get 35k at Gillette (ZZzzzzzzzzzzzz), the four state schools can fill a 37,000 seat Fenway even if they need help from the "hey it's at Fenway" crowd.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

This is good.
Personally, I think this BC team has the talent to surprise and rise to great heights.
Going to be another fun year following the Eagles.

Hope you're right but I see problems on offense. A lot of guys would have to pick it up and the freshmen contribute.

off year around the league

Almeida, Carey, Kreider, Whitney, Mullane alone will be among the top F's in league. Arnold and Hayes will also be contributors as well. Gaugreau will be very good as well, easily make top 3 lines. Tiefenwerth and Straight will give depth also. If you remember, Carey led the USHL in scoring 3 years ago so clearly he has top line ability.

Dumouling and Cross will be top 3 or 4 in league from point. Might be first year in a while where they might use D on first unit PP all the time. SW will factor in there

BC's entire success will hinge upon goalie success or lack there of

Hokydad, if I recall, a few months ago you mentioned that BC would not have a forward back that many people were expecting to be back. But you just listed Arnold, Hayes, Whitney, Mullane, Carey, Kreider and Almeida. Is the guy Dyroff, Tommy Atkinson, or Patrick Brown? Or did someone you heard was turning pro decide to change their mind?

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

Granted not all of our returning forwards have had major success at the college level YET, but many were "can't miss" type recruits (i.e. Kreider, SWhitney, Almeida, KHayes, Arnold) while others like Mullane & Carey were certainly projected to be solid contributors - if not more. With last year's big guns gone, I fully expect some of these guys to take off. Throw in some very good Freshmen (Guadreau, Straight, Linell & Tiefenwerth) and there's no reason to think this team's offense won't be clicking on all cylinders come playoff time.

Tiefenwerth isn't coming until next fall. It was probably because of the late additions of Gaudreau and Linell.

Re: Boston College 2011-2012 season outlook

My not-really-all-that-bold prediction is that SWhit goes rip$#!+ this year. I'm talking Gerbe/Atkinson style.
