Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

No, but it would work with the WCHA and Hockey East.

If you took last years standings minus the big 10 teams:

North Dakota @ Boston College
New Hampshire @ Denver
Nebraska-Omaha @ Boston U
Merrimack @ Minnesota-Duluth
Colorado College @ Maine
Northeastern @ Alaska-Anchorage
St. Cloud State @ Vermont
Massachusetts @ Bemidji State
Minnesota State @ Providence
Massachusetts-Lowell @ Michigan Tech

Well Dumass you forgot the catalyst, Big Ten TV Money

The big mistake teams will make their tv money whether they play non conference games against hockey east or circle jerk among themselves. Unless you think they'll share some of that money with their non-conference opponents, which is absolutely not going to happen.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

If the NCAA opts to change the rules to allow this paying of players, I want the rules amended to allow CHL kids to jump to college. And keep the one year "transfer sit out" just like current kids do when they switch schools.

Here me out before railing me. I am a Gopher fan and I want them to pay the players and the CHL kids should sit out at least one year. ;)

I think it is time for you to accept the fact this Big Ten Hockey Conference is starting up it will make your life easier. ;P

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

And how quickly do you think some lawyers would come screaming at that idea with lawsuits and injunctions???

Unless the big time conferences leave the NCAA for football and Basketball only and stay in for everything else......

No, they will, in the form of a guarantee for a one-and-done series at their location.

That wouldn't free them from Title IX compliance. Title IX is what is going to ultimately doom this proposal, I suspect that the costs will be to great for this once the woman's teams are included.

Yeah, about the only thing that they really gain out of that would be adding womens beach volleyball as a sport.

Roller Derby teams! :D

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

There have been rumors of what you are talking about.

I dont think that the NCAA would let teams just leave in football and basketball, that would effectively kill off the NCAA's funding.

Two options:
1.) The NCAA drops football as a sponsored sport, thus freeing the schools from NCAA regulations wrt football and allows them to full regulate themselves, I use the term regulate very, very losely.
2.) The BCS schools leave the NCAA and unite under a new overall organization for all sports that will compete directly with the NCAA.

Neither option would free the schools from title IX compliance, although if the schools were to break away from the NCAA, they could in theory spin off the athletic departments as independent organizations that would take no federal funding and thus theoretically not be subject to title IX (of course the legal system would have to sort that out in practice).

they'd probably have to be legally independent of the school itself.

I see lots of conversatin about ND going to HE. Does anyone have anything to suggest that that is a real possibility?

The writing is on the wall. Goodbye CCHA hello Hockey East. The logical choice for Notre Dame.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

At which point, we will start seeing a bunch of BEHC threads show up.

DePaul and Marquette University already have facilities (kinda) in place for hockey. The Allstate Arena and Bradley Center respectively. :D
