Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

DePaul and Marquette University already have facilities (kinda) in place for hockey. The Allstate Arena and Bradley Center respectively. :D

They have to form the Big East TV network first, that way they can just rake in the cash from hockey!

yes check out the Maine topic, quotes from Jeff Jackson & Tim

The opinions of coaches are irrelevant in this discussion. The opinions of school presidents (and any big money donors schools have) are relevant.

And no, fans' opinions aren't relevant either.

The money trail is more important and more relevant to the presidents.

*cue some first time poster, going on about how that could actually happen*

And Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Villanova probably have a good enough fanbase. It could work! Not to mention that NYC is an untapped market. St. Johns or Rutgers would do really well there! I'm sure UConn would have no problem updating their facilities. That's ten teams right there!

:) All of this about financial trails to the BTHC is qutie interesting.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

Kind of a hose job for the number 2 team. They don't get to host anybody and make the money that the 3rd or 4th seed team would.

My guess is they will throw all the money in a pot and divide it 12 ways. ;) I mean 6 ways.

The playoff revenue (after expenses) will go to the conference. I wonder how tickets will be distributed. Will teams be able to distribute them with season ticket packages or will that be controlled by the conference.

Given that we won't know the location until late in the season, I'm not going to be planning to go.

Re: Big Ten Hockey Conference Pt III - Revenge of the Sith.

As long as this format exists, I'd expect the regular season champion to also win the playoff title at least half the time. Having a first round bye plus home ice for the semifinal and final is a massive advantage.

Oh, and **** this ****ing conference. We're going from a massively attended event at the X to an all-campus playoffs. Loooooovely.

Maybe it is time to just except the fact the BTHC is coming into existence it will make your life easier. I know I have and not that I like it.

IMO, this playoff system will make the Big Ten more NCAA ready than ever before. The only thing I can see hurting them is the grind it will take to win the Big Ten tourney.

the funny thing about UConn is that an upgrade would be rather hard since the property abuts the (usually nationally ranked and top 3 attended) soccer field and that soccer field abuts the football complex.

This won't last long, it is a temporary measure to make sure demand is high enough to move up. If they did it at the X and Minne didn't make it that is a lot of unsold seats. Better to start small and move up.

The plan sucks though, what if Michigan wins the conference...Yost holds what 6k? There is no way they will allot more than 500 tickets to each team and the rest will be offered up to season ticket holders I would guess. Not a good plan.

It would be pretty cool if The B1G TEN and WCHA could get it figured out and have back to back weekends at the X...as much as I hate all of this. You could have the B1G Super Six and then have the WCHA Final Five the next weekend.

No can do. State tourney is the weekend before the Final 5, and there is no chance in hell they move that. Nor should they. They'll get 3X as many people for the Boys AA tourney than the Big Mistake Tourney, if not more.

Exactly this. Since the split to two classes (1992), the boy hockey state tourney hasn't drawn less than 106,000 (with a peak of 129,000) over the four days. The Final Five has only drawn over 70,000 in the last 9 years with a peak of 88,900 (this, not surprisingly has coincided with the "permanent" move to the X). Why move either tourney for something that may or may not draw fans? And as noted, if you have it as a final four, what happens the year that neither the Gophers or Badgers make it?
