Big Green ! Dartmouth Women ' s Hockey , 2009 - 2010

Re: Big Green ! Dartmouth Women ' s Hockey , 2009 - 2010

Congratulations to Senior Co-captain Jenna Cunningham for career points 100 and 101!!:D :D :D

what makes it extra special is that Jenna missed 1/2 of her sophomore season because of a serious knee injury and only played in 17 games yet had already scored 17 goals and 20 assists before she was injured.

So I like us tomorrow at Harvard. We certainly have the firepower, and I think even and especially, posess currently more maturity measuring down, say, from our 'senior' trio of Parsons, Trunzo and Cunningham. We are coming into our own. Let's continue. Play our game, show leadership, continue to work, pursue relentlessly and keep the mistakes especially in the defensive end to a minimum. 'Handle' this Crimson team? No, that isn ' t the way to victory here (especially) or really ever. Rather, play your game and don't let up. Both Harvard and Dartmouth are some slow out of the gate this year; characteristic for them, of late, but not for Dartmouth. Perhaps we can regain a National Ranking by defeating some nationally ranked teams - other than Syracuse.

Ugggh...bad snackage at Thompson?

Hux, so unkind and unwarranted! Thompson has more available snackage than most - including Ben and Jerry's ice cream and chili - my fav- a great combo..;) game was played at Yale anyway. Hoping for a great game tonite at Harvard.. lots of local talent.. Hux will you be taking pix? You could do a double header today - 3 pm Vermont @ Northeastern; 7pm Dartmouth @ Harvard.

I will definitely be at Harvard - Dartmouth. If my boss were kind enough to grant early release by 2, I'd seriously consider the NU - VT game. If the Green Mountian Cats bring their A game, it might be a barn burner.Alas, 3pm release is far more likely:(

Tied at 2, end of 2nd.
Dartmouth way outshooting Harvard, but the Crimson has been opportunistic.
H. picking up the pace toward the end of the period.

Here we are in a third period wherein if we give the best we have, full never quit- once we leave the ice, step out on the rubber mat when the game has concluded, then no matter if we won. More than a concept. It felt to me like we were there, doing that, last year in the ECAC playoff commencing Colgate. It is a level to regain. Once regained, held.

Harvard 3, Dartmouth 2 Final

3 consecutive penalties seemed to take the steam out of Darty. Harvard played an excellent 3rd period.
Great game.

Have a nice Thanksgiving (American), all!

Right back at you. Have a great weekend.

Question for Dartmouth fans: Why is Sarah Parsons not on the Olympic team? I'm surprised to see her on the roster. Is she going to join the team after exams?

She didn't make the cut from the National Women's Festival in August. The current National team roster will be trimmed by two players to the final roster in mid-December.

Harvard 3, Dartmouth 2 Final
What jumped out at me from the 3rd period of the box score was:

Timeout - Dartmouth 16:21
HAR 3 - 2 6x6 GW LL Liza Ryabkina (1) (Josephine Pucci, Jillian Dempsey) 16:35

Ironically, the time out strategy mapped out on one bench must have unfolded better than on the other. Or the Big Green staff didn't like the way the game was going, but their attempt to stall Harvard's momentum proved unsuccessful.

Good observation. It seemed the timeout back-fired.

Good catch! With the score knotted in the third period, Dartmouth takes a time out as time runs down. From the box score it appears the 'tide' had turned in Harvard's favor (shots, etc.) from the start of the third period. After Dartmouth's time out, Harvard scores almost immediately.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For me, some worthwhile observations on the game from, Harvard Crimson Women 09-10.
'Watson Rink':
" Yes, another fast-skating, exciting game. This team seems to outskate most opponents (and skated even with UNH) yet appears fresher and stronger on their skates than their opponents towards the end. Pucci really has a cannon from the point, doesn't she? Ryabkina makes the first line a dominating presence when they're all out there together. Interesting to see all the players getting ice time: basically, two forwards anchored each line and took every regular shift while Ryabkina (working her way in after so many weeks away) and the other forwards alternated on different lines. This is a classic way for a coach to reward whoever is playing best on a given night with ice time that night, while still giving everybody an opportunity to play every night, in constrast to the rigid nine-player fixed rotations of past seasons. "

And from, 'Hux':
" I thought they were pretty much outskated by Dartmouth for the first two periods. (Dartmouth is also the faster of the two teams). Might have had something to do with the poor sharpening that appeared to have been done to their skates, as quite a few seemed to have trouble staying up on their feet.

Miss Pucci is certainly fun to watch, especially since she seems to have free reign to attack at will in the offensive zone. Not too often you see a D hunting for loose pucks in the crease...behind the goalie. "

And, 'Crimson Hockey Fan':
" Nice to see Lisa R. back; the difference with her on the ice was pretty clear. "

So, hoping and with the score even, I had to walk away from the dark corner in my dinning room where the game plays out on the computer. Not any different than anyone else, probably.

Then, 'Blink', up comes the opponents score.

Vermont, Saturday night at 7:00 PM in Burlington.
GO GREEN GO !

Like Vermont, but, no, I am down the line for Dartmouth.

Meet UNH at home on the twelfth.
We could keep moving up with an eye-popping effort that night!
We, of course, have left the board (at least...fifteen women's teams nationally ranked-or mentioned-ahead of us in the latest USCHO.com poll, etc.)

AND, not a schedule to my liking particularly: we don't then play again for eighteen days (Vermont at home Dec, 30) and are away subsequently for four games to January 9 (Connecticut, twice; Qunnipiac and Princeton.)

Re: Big Green ! Dartmouth Women ' s Hockey , 2009 - 2010

Academically, the players are finishing up Final Exams and research papers for the first term - so the schedule makes sense for remembering the "student" part of student-athletes! Hope they can regroup after last week's Harvard contest - they played well for the first two periods and scored two goals - only lost by one goal - seeing what happened in the Minnesota-Harvard series, there's still alot of hockey left to be played. This is a big game v. UNH (which are coming off an upset loss to Providence) and a chance to get back on track. Go Big Green! Yale played Cornell to a tie - anything could happen this season!
