Big Green ! Dartmouth Women ' s Hockey , 2009 - 2010

Re: Big Green ! Dartmouth Women ' s Hockey , 2009 - 2010

I'm sorry, I guess I misinterpreted papulaisle's post. Those schools have certainly worked hard on the recruiting fronts. That's for sure.

No, Bergey1 got me right! And it seems then, I am wrong (as per her question, Trillium, et al -) and I thank you . Completely open and honest recruiting is, or should be, the standard and I thought I was smelling, 'wollen', as the saying goes. Thought these recruits (as mentioned above) too slick, professional, too fast - thus what I saw as a 'handy' quote from a Cornell fan ("You would think they were veterans out there.") I recruited myself, to help make my point.

Whoopsie.

Hold with, Sister Sledge: " Have faith in you and the things you do... "

Some information on Michelle Dumais from the Dartmouth Sports Information Network:

" Despite being a freshman on the team, Dumais is an experienced player. She was injured all of last year with a torn ACL, but was previously an assistant captain at Dawson College in Montreal for the 2008-2009 season, and, before that, was a two-time academic athlete of the year at the Kuper Academy — a private, K-12 school in Kirkland, Quebec.

While leading the U-18 Canadian national team in scoring at the World Championships, Dumais earned a silver medal. She was also a three-time member of Team Quebec and earned two silvers and a bronze at the Canada Games. "

Up coming Princeton has been knocking on the door of late but hasn't yet come up with enough of a winning combination to reach the highest levels of the ECAC. Flirting with it. And finished fairly strong last year. Maybe this is the year. Highly touted new goalie, Cassie Seguin- freshman, has more than held her own so far. Likely contests at Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend will provide more of an answer. Princeton followed by Quinnipac for the Green; they also on the move, 3-0-1 in the ECAC and 10 games under their belt including 2-1 over instate rival Yale last weekend.

How now Dartmouth? I'm thinking leadership- show me. With seven freshmen and an all new defense someone or some-one's will need to provide and keep providing, a motivating, inspiring action for the rest to follow. Why not now? Is likely to come from the forward lines, where the seniority and greator experience lie. I'm hopeful we'll see such emerge and be sustained against this weeks rivals.

Great work by Dartmouth in handing Princeton a four to one loss in Hanover. Shots even at 22. Made one in five power play goals. Two goals for Sarah Toupal. Faceoffs 25/23 in favor of Dartmouth. Maybe a little too many penalties - eight, but I'll take it!

Weber in the goal for Princeton- Cassie Seguin listed but her status difficult to otherwise determine from the scoresheet.

I see RStarr choosing Brown to beat Dartmouth tonight. Surprised me. Maybe knows something I don't. Also, others see a tie. Was there some important tie between these two I don't remember? I see Dartmouth able to win at Brown and Yale relatively easily. And while I hope for a team spirit to develop like that which we saw in the ECAC playoffs last year, even without it I expect us to prevail in these two games.

I alas went to bed after period two with Dartmouth ahead 3-2. I WAS influenced by RStarr and others predicting a loss or tie and it bothered me. I decided maybe they might think Woodcox not really fully ready and wouldn't hold up in goal. Don't know. Ended a strong 5-2 win, however.

Fifty three shots for Dartmouth, ten by Cunningham, eight by Parsons and seven by Trunzo; that is sooooo what I like to see; more, more, please.

To keep up the momentum for Yale is now the task. Last weekend after defeating Princton, I interpreted a loss to Qunnipiac (Saturday) as perhaps a failure of will. If so am hoping that the will is there for the Eli today and we have learned that lesson if in fact that were the case. I did not believe Qunnipiac a stronger team. In fact, I have a great good feeling about this group of skaters for Dartmouth and expect -commitment word- the season to keep unrolling in our favor, strongly. Harvard coming up in Cambridge (after Yale) somewhat of a test, of course.

YES - Go Green Go !

Right, QU outplayed and out-hustled Darty on many occasions last Sat; they also got some great goaltending. But overall I believe Dartmouth has more talent (the old truism applies: hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard). During their moments of focus and intensity, DC looked really good; unfortunately it was a case of too little, too late.
Not only is this a young team, which generally means inconsistency, but they are also using a different strategy and style of play from last year. Thus not only the first-year players need to adjust. One thing noted after the last game was that they need to shoot more. Sounds like that's exacly what happened at Brown. It's coming!

And congratulations to Whitney Woodcox on her first D1 win!

Too, Dayglo, I thought (after I got off-line earlier today) that through two periods last night they hadn' t taken charge of Brown conclusively- but in coming out in the third and closing them down while scoring two on their own, I'm hopeful we saw a 'not quit' type of maturity which may now start to prevail.
