Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Beaver fans have put up with Albers so we can definately put up with Shepherd even if he wears the maroon and gold underneath his zebra stripes.

I just want to see a little respect from the media that covers the gophers. They opened last night with one of the guys calling us the Bulldogs TWICE they didnt have our record right etc....

If its your job to announce a game do your damm homework.
Oh and Doug Woog needs to go. I cant stand to listen to his stuttering and finally switched to Biss and Schultzy after 2 periods.

let's see, complain about the refs, complain about the announcers, complain about Woog. You must actually be a whinny UND fan in reality.

I'll let you in on a secret, no one who announces college hockey is making tons of money, and they will never, ever know the visiting team as well as they know their own team. It is why I actually like to listen to other teams announcers every once in a while, to see who they respect and fear on my team, and who they like and dislike on their own team. Not knowing the visiting team as well as you like is not because of lack of respect, it is just that this is a minor part time job for these guys. if all you want to hear is homers, then listen to your own guys.

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Even tho some of you gophers fans have been ignorant about the beavers this week i want to thank the ones who have said that we are a WCHA ready team:D now hopefully the beavs play a little better tonight and win

Here's the thing, though. Buffs's isn't complaining about Woog and Frank "not knowing" BSU (X's and O's - knowing individual kids, etc.) as well as they know the Gophs, he's complaining about the fact that they can't keep simple facts straight - the name of the team, the teams record, how kids names are pronouned. These aren't things that take even part-timers hours to figure out. Any professional sports announcer (part-time or full) should be able to figure this stuff out in the hour or two that they're prepping at the rink before the mike goes on (hey, I do it about a hundred times a year), just by chatting with a Media Relations Director or the coach...

And here's the other point - Minnesota has the highest profile of any college hockey program in the country. Basically every game is televised (and available on satelite), and the perception, outside Gopher fans, seems to be that the announcers don't know how to do their job. That's a problem for the "U."

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Announcers make mistakes all the time. It's part of having to talk for hours at a time. Frank and Doug were very respectful of BSU. They love Serratore, so that should be no surprise.

That's a problem for the "U."

In what ways exactly does this supposed problem manifest itself? Speak tangibly please.

And if you take the blinders off no one gives opposing teams more credit, nor is as critical of the 'home' team, as often as Woog. No one.

so, you are saying they don't know the beavers as well as the gophers. thanks for backing me up, there. and, as we all know, the only fans that matter are the gopher fans, so no need to change.

Woog and Frank are the "face" of Gopher hockey. For recruits too, and if the preception is that they don't know their stuff, and if perception is reality, maybe someone turns off a broadcast and decides to not committ to play for the Gophs because of them. Probible? No. Possible? Yes. Worth taking a chance on? No way.

Listen, I'm a Cubs fan. I've got no blinders when it comes to announcers - I've got to deal with Ron Santo  . Woog may be critical of the Gophs, but he reminds me of a combination of Santo and Harry Caray (although you also have quite the combo of those two in Glen Sonmor too). He just needs to slow down and set himself, and I think he'd be better.

And you need to take the blinders off too - Woog may give credit where credit's due (but he's not the only one), but he also slammed the Beavers on a few occasions last night as well (one very subtle example - "I don't know if BSU has enough tallent to sustain this long of a 5x3, I think Tom (Serratore) would rather have had these penalties spread out a bit more," durring that extended pp in the 2nd period). You just had to be listening for it...

Possibly the worst idea I've read since startthebus last posted. They've been a supposed "face" for a decade so forgive me if I don't find this the slightest concern.

So announcers are not allowed to provide honest criticism/analysis? Again, take the blinders off because nothing Woog said there doesn't have merit.

and, clearly he was right, with that amount of 5 x 3, a team with more talent would have scored. he was dead on.

Good Lord, I'm agreeing with Happy. Parise help me.

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Why else call a TO while on a 5x3 advantage?

I'm not going to lie, I didn't realize bemidji took to the TO until well after the 5x3 ended and the period was nearly over. I asked if the score board operators screwed up because I thought tDon was giving the defense a break by calling it.

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Great game so far, but I must say thank parise that tdon pulled kangas.... He is deffinatly the goalie god that he was his freshman year.... I think that k.p. is deffinatly the better goalie....

You make Jockstrap look smart.

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Wow! gophers are playing great! What a great game! Apparently the Beavers just got lucky.

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

Mmm mmm. This crow is good. :o

Too bad none of the BSU contingent took me up on my offer. That woulda been a free drink. ;) :(

Re: Bemidji @ Minnesota - Rodents, Rodents, Everywhere

I can't believe this score.
I thought BSU didn't have any skill?

;) :)
