BC vs. Denver

Re: BC vs. Denver

wish i could for this one. actually just moved back to boston from vail, but would have missed the series for a wedding anyway.

anyone know how difficult it will be getting fox rocky mountain in the boston area? (or any good bars to suggest for watching?)

DirecTV has it and the rest of the Fox sports channels available. If you have a friend or find a bar w/ DirecTV you've got a chance.

Re: BC vs. Denver

Actually my take was NU outplayed them and Muse was the star. Shots being even at 30 each doesnt sound like a trap game to me. NU was ahead on shots all game until late when BC rose to the occasion and pulled it out with a late pp goal and an empty netter. NU didnt sit back at all.
Shots were actually 35-35. 12 each in the 1st, 16-11 NU in the 2nd, 12-7 BC in the 3rd.
Here’s the post I responded to:
BC's team speed against DU's "all hands on deck" defensive mentality.
Look for DU to try and rope-a-dope BC, block shots and try and score on counterattacks.
I never said NU trapped, but they did hunker down in the D zone for the first 1 1/2 periods. There were 5 NU players between Rawlings and the puck whenever BC was in the NU zone. And although the BC SOG were 12, I'll bet they took 20-25 shots, many of which were deflected high or wide, never reaching Rawlings. NU was quite comfortable dumping the puck out of the D zone and changing up for fresh legs. BC’s D-men had very little pressure bringing the puck back up ice. I thought dggoddard’s post described the NU game plan to a ‘T’… “all hands on deck” D and “block shots and try and score on counterattacks”. And they executed the plan to near perfection, creating some nice chances on Muse.

Things changed at the halfway mark of the 2nd, when BC had 5 straight penalties and played a man down over the last 9 minutes. NU completely DOMINATED the Eagles, outshooting them 16-11. Of those 11 BC shots, a number of them were shorty attempts.

Bottom line, as I said in the BC/NU thread, it was a great game to watch and I think both teams played well. I don’t think NU outplayed the Eagles, but I think they played their game plan to near perfection. Problem for them was, BC played their last two power plays to perfection.

If ddoggard is right and it's on FS Pacific you get it on Comcast's Sports Pack.

It looks like he is right, my guide isn't updated but the 9:30-12 slot is blocked as "TBA" so I'd assume...

Re: BC vs. Denver

Cronin's comment was asinine. BC has 35 RS games. If they play four in the HE tourney and go to the NC, that means they'd only be able to have three losses. Ridiculous.

I will be there Sat. I usually wear a BC jersey and a Hockey East hat. If you see me, stop and say hi.

Re: BC vs. Denver

First of all, I have a hard time believing Saponari won't be able to get his **** together for next year given this is his second chance.

Any BC Eagle posters coming out to Denver for the series?

Was out there last year for the Denver Cup, but not this time around...

Agreed. If that BU team didn't do it, nobody will these days. Besides, BC teams tend to have slumps during the season.

Hmm I don't know about that. It's hard to say considering that BU team didn't have great expectations going into that season. Sometimes you just never know. We also know what happened in 2008-2009 when BC was preseason #1 with a ton of talent returning.

Re: BC vs. Denver

DU Game Notes for this weekend's series.

LAST MEETING VS. BOSTON COLLEGE
Rhett Rakhshani scored two goals and tallied an assist and Joe Colborne scored the game-winner to propel then-No. 2 Denver to a dramatic 4-3 comeback victory over then-No. 5/6 Boston College in the championship game of the Wells Fargo Denver Cup on Jan. 2, 2010. Rakhshani was named tournament MVP as DU claimed its 14th Wells Fargo Denver Cup championship. Trailing 2-0 after two periods, Rakhshani put the Pioneers on the board with a long wrist shot 30 seconds into the third period. Brian Gibbons gave BC a 3-1 lead at 5:36 of the third period, but goals by Drew Shore and Rakhshani evened the score at 3-3. Colborne hammered home Rakhshani's rebound for the game-winning goal with 3:15 remaining. Marc Cheverie made 28 saves in the victory, while John Muse (35 saves) took the loss. Both teams were held without a power-play goal.

Re: BC vs. Denver

you just knew watching early in that 3rd period that DU was going to win the game. they were relentless and had BC back on their heels the entire period..........

Yeah, that game had me pulling my hair out. It was a great learning experience for BC though, certainly. IIRC, that was the first game last year where Muse really stood on his head and made some remarkable saves.

I'm interested in seeing the re-tooled Denver lineup. It seemed like Ruegsegger-Colborne-Rakhshani was out there every single shift last year.

If it seemed that way, it was because they were out there almost every shift. TV timeouts, instant replay after goals, Gwoz milking faceoff changes, regular timeouts.

Agree and if i had enough hair to spare, i'd have been pulling it out too...........and, yes, also agree with that being the finally healthy Muse.

Re: BC vs. Denver

just looked at DU's game notes, so here's how they start the season:
2 @ Vermont
2 vs BC
2 vs Wisconsin
2 @ North Dakota

that's one heck of a starting schedule

Don't forget arch rival CC following North Dakota. It's about as rough a schedule as I can remember to open a season. If the Pioneers are at .500 after playing CC, I'll be pleased...

Re: BC vs. Denver

We always hear about BC's small, quick forwards. If you look at the rosters DU matches up pretty well with our own small quick forwards.
