BC vs. Denver

Re: BC vs. Denver

Having seen BC quite a bit last year (which was basically the same team they are this year), I was constantly amazed at their speed in transition. Every time they have the slightest opening, it seems like they have a 2 on 1 going the other way, and last night was no exception. They seem to create scoring chances out of nothing. As people say, no matter the sport, speed is a huge advantage, and BC is as fast a team as I can recall seeing.

On a side note, watching the game last night made me feel good about Northeastern's effort against BC last Saturday.

In order to beat BC you almost have to play a flawless game defensively. They are the best team in college hockey at killing you from your own mistakes. On top of that, they don't make many mistakes. DU didn't get very good goaltending last night, and that will have to change tonight if they want to have any shot at a split. BC looks like everything they were made out to be.

Well, NU skaters did fall down an awful lot in that game, and if there was a BC player within 10 feet, it was a trip. ;)

NU did play a heck of a game and are a vastly improved team from last season.

Re: BC vs. Denver

on the flip side of samuelsson play it seems Dumoulin has got off to a sluggish start ..........

Ya, he did get beat on that 2nd goal and he knew it. Not concerned about him though...

true.............i am spoiled, he had an unGodly +40 and doesn't play flawlessly the first in two games so you kind of notice.........

Dumoulin hasn't been that bad he made a good play on the poke check and the puck took a terrible bounce for BC. He also had a monster shift in the 2nd period at some point and did a great job bringing it into the zone on one of the early 2nd period BC goals. He skates with confidence with the puck and is very good on the wall. His problem is more in the other areas and even then he's adequate there.

It's funny Samuelsson looked sketchy in the exhibition IMO. But last night he was really playing at a higher level. Had a sweet play to intercept, brought it in and set up Almeida to go in alone in the first period but Almeida got stoned. That after he had an assist on the first goal I think.

The defense is basically a more talented version of what we had with Kunes, Filangieri, etc. Shea has been very quiet. Wey has been very quiet but in a good way. Samuelsson looks to be playing well. Dumoulin is obviously great. And Alber is still a pleasant surprise. Alber had a very good game last night. And Cross chipped in with a goal and could be a very good two way player for BC with 100% health.

true, nu's game plan was mostly get in the way to slow BC and fall down if you get in trouble. that said, BC still had over a handful of odd man rushes created off turnovers that they just couldnt put past rawlings. it was probably 50% him playing well, and 50% bad shot selections due to it being the first game. you obviously cant argue with a road shut out; but if a few more of those shots go in, you have a very similar outcome to this DU game.

it seemed the passing was much crisper vs DU; but again that was probably more to do with DU's up and down style as opposed to northeastern's clog and counter attack mode

Re: BC vs. Denver

That's an amazing accomplishment, for an east coast team to play two back-to-back games in Denver and win them both rather handily. I think this BC team wants to do what only Denver (recently) has done: win back-to-back NCAA titles. As often happens, a team this good usually collapses the year after due to graduation and NHL defection. It seems that BC players sense this and want to capitalize on the here & now.

Re: BC vs. Denver

BC played well all weekend. They are experienced and have great system and players. DU is a young team that can grow this season.
Hats off to BC, they played up to their ranking.

Not so. Hokydad said NU outplayed the Eagles.

Glad to know someone else saw the same game I did. ;)

Re: BC vs. Denver

BC is clearly the team to beat this year. I know people in Grand Forks say otherwise, but as far as Im concerned it's BC and everyone else this year. York has compiled a startling array of talent, speed and experience up there in Chestnut Hill. It'll be fun to watch how it all unfolds this year for them.

Re: BC vs. Denver

This team is clearly very good but the number and seriousness of the penalties taken this weekend was rather disturbing and shows a lack of discipline. You can't take those kinds of penalties and expect to sweep a good team like DU every weekend.

No, no, BC can have the top ranking for the season. That's fine with me. :)
They did look very strong against DU. They deserve the #1 ranking at this point in the season...

A team coached by Hakstol doesn't scare me in March/April.

:D

Re: BC vs. Denver

A team coached by York doesn't scare me in any month, except maybe October. The players would have to wear really scary costumes though.

Re: BC vs. Denver

be careful what you say........

Good advice.

It's too early in the season to say that one team is clearly head and shoulders better than everyone else. BC looked awfully good on Friday. Saying that, DU is not as good as they were last year, and will have to fight for a top-half spot (I think they'll wind up about 4th or 5th). As most DU fans expected, BC swept, and deserve the top billing for another week.
