Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

Woah. OK, I'm adding it to the queue. And I liked Knuckleball quite a bit, despite it's focus on a couple of players, rather than the mechanics of the pitch itself.

I also liked Knuckleball. If I had to find a fault in Fastball, I'd say no Randy Johnson. They showed a couple clips of him in montages, but no mention otherwise. Could be behind-the-scenes stuff, sure, I don't know. But I was mesmerized by this movie.

Edit: as for mechanics, they had a couple PhD's weigh in on the science of the fastball, added credit there.

Costner gets a career pass because of Bull Durham. Which is a good thing for him since virtually everything else he's made has been a steaming pile.

My favorite quote about Costner is he knew so little about baseball that when he was shooting as Crash he kept saying "fast pitch" instead of fastball.

I actually cannot watch Bull b/c of Costner. I hate him that much. Smug a-hole, me-against-the-world roles. And a crappy actor.

I think he's perfect in that role and I share your opinion of him generally. :)

lulz

He nailed Crash Davis, No Way Out was tremendous, The War was solid, Field of Dreams too. Tin Cup was fun. Thirteen Days is one of the more underrated movies out there. I don't care how many people cry about the Oscar, DWW was wonderful and James Cameron thought so highly of it he completely ripped it off. He's made plenty of turds to be sure, but Brent he's way more versatile than your wonderboy Kevin Spacey.

[edit] Forgot how good he was in Hatfields & McCoys.

Versatile?

Costner plays himself in every movie. He's Robert Redford -- a nice looking man who makes movies that make a lot of money. He's not trying to be a good actor. That's not his job.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I said he's more versatile than Kevin Spacey. I didn't say he's DDL.

I'm not sure if versatile is the best word for Spacey, but I do think he's a very good actor.

I'm personally not a fan of DDL scenery-chewing, but I've definitely enjoyed his movies and ultimately that's what it's all about.

Agree with you mostly. Bull Durham and Tin Cup are great and Thirteen Days is pretty underrated.

You were doing well until you insulted Spacey. To hell with any of Brent's opinions - screw you for that. :p

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

When did I become a Spacey fanboy? He's beyond awesome in House Of Cards. Otherwise he's a decent actor.

If you want to accuse me of being a fanboy of anyone, it'd be DDL or Bale. :p

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

And Bale makes plenty of crappy movies...even DDL has.

Costner is what he is, I like many of his roles but love very few of them. Spacey is (from what I have been told) a helluva Broadway actor who is decent in movies and awesome in HOC.

Ghostbusters is on moratorium until release...it is going to be destroyed. I will still see it cause I never trust the critics but they love Paul Feig and the cast so if they hate it that is not a good sign.

Re: Batman Vs Superman, And Oh Yeah, Suicide Squad: Movies Thread

I actually really like another of Costner's baseball movies, For Love of the Game. It's more chick flick crossed with baseball movie rather than a pure sports film, but I like it.

One of my best friends absolutely loves that film. I thought it was enjoyable.

Some media have already seen it but are embargoed until tomorrow. One person who isn't is Patton Oswald, who raved about the film (not surprising since he is friends with many in the cast). What is encouraging is that some critics who aren't allowed to say anything yet retweeted Oswald with a note reading, "not allowed to say anything yet so I'll just leave this here"

I expect absolute garbage. This is one of the worst marketing campaigns ever. If it turns out to even be average it will seem like Citizen Kane. That may have been Sony's plan from the start...

If they are holding the moratorium until the release day they are expecting it to be around 30% on RT.

I like Patton a lot but sometimes his opinions on movies annoy the crap out of me.

Reading on twitter that the pre-hate was all planned. Going to be a great movie.

The pre hate was all planned? So everyone got together and decided to hate the movie for no reason? Please...

There is no great conspiracy, people dont think it looks good because they dont think it looks good. If you do great but dont pretend everyone else is in a smoke filled room screwing over the film that is just bush league. Every time I have seen the trailer before a movie it was met with groans.
