Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Here's the deal the last thread I started in Score Updates was a loss--beaten badly loss--so I don't want to carry that jinx forward for the 2nd half of the season. :o

CO 14ers or any other thread starter who's ready to step up and bear the weight of the 2nd half of the season on their shoulders, I offer suggestions.
But I don't think, no I know, I can't take the pressure. :o

My suggestion:The Rakh and Ruegs (Rock and Roogs) Revue

(Maybe we should save From Boonetown to Motown for the Frozen Four)

Not to complicate things, but I think "From Boonetown to Motown" is brilliant!!!!

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Congrats to the hoops team for the win over Western Kentucky, who makes pretty regular appearances in the NCAA tourney. Looked like a decent crowd at Magness, at least from the TV broadcast.

Also, good job by the gymnastics team, beating Minnesota pretty easily. Tough times for the Gophers all around?

I'll take the 3 points from this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing Donovan back on the ice, and I hope more guys step up offensively so that we don't fall into a habit of relying too much on the heroics of R & R.

I still don't think this DU team is the #1 team in the country right now, and the statistics say we are nowhere near that:

Offense is #22 nationally at 3.14 GPG

Defense is #17 nationally at 2.59 GPG

PP is #28 nationally at 19.3%

PK is #8 nationally at 86%

What we have is a team that knows how to get by other good teams with some experienced seniors, and we have a goaltender that can keep it close in most games.

If DU can simply improve the offense to 3.5-4.0 GPG, I think the games would be a little less white-knuckle...

Swami--it's not all about the stats. Experienced & talented seniors, good goaltending, and a couple of good offensive d-men are rather important factors, wouldn't you say? If you average out your stats, we're the #19th ranked team in the country. Hopefully you don't think we're THAT bad!

There's certainly room for improvement, particularly the PP and GPG. But having a cohesive team that "knows how to win" can be more important than statistics in evaulating how a team ranks.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I agree that more GPG would make it a little more relaxing. Right now it's just under 3. Interesting that all the preseason hype about this team had them scoring goals like Baltimore in the first quarter today. That hasn't panned out but yet we're still on top of the conference as predicted. BC won the whole shooting match in 08 with a 3.3 and BU last year at 3.6. PS your stats are national on the conference level we look a little better--best kill, best goalie and leading scorer in the best conference.

We've been talking about this for the last couple of years. CH has a lot of parody right now and it's getting more intense every year. Take this past weekend for example that fact that the 9th place team can give the #1 team in the country fits and Robert Morris a team named after some dead guy can knock off the former #1 team twice just shows how broad the talent is. Top teams are not going to be dominant in stats. That's why we have the NCAA tourney. How many of us picked BSU, UVM and the Red Hawks to go to DC last year? I for one, wouldn't want it any other way. When I was a kid I watched ECAC games at Baker Rink and PU got blown out on a regular bases by the power houses of New England. Those days are long gone.

i know its not all about stats, but the large national stats gaps do point out areas for improvement.

While you only need one goal more than your opponent, it would be a lot easier on us fans to see more wins with better margins.

Really would like to see a a you tube of the winning goal last night.

Should be on Pioneer Vision tomorrow.

Wrenn had puck at blueline. Fired puck around boards. Ruegsegger let it go by him along boards & went straight to net. Rakhshani got to it behind net and fired it in one motion between his legs to Ruegsegger. Ruegsegger fired it into net before Olthuis could react.

It was a bang-bang play that wasn't caught too well on TV, until they put it in slow motion. Rakhshani's move was so fast I originally thought he kicked the puck to Ruegsegger.

I was 15 feet away from the play and it happened so fast that I wanted to see a decent slow-mo....

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

So the Pioneers wake up to a #1 ranking over at INCH!!

http://www.insidecollegehockey.com/5Polls/0910/polls_0816.htm

I don't know if this is a good thing or if it really matters, but back in September if we knew we would have a #1 ranking in January we would be pretty psyched!!!

I wonder what the other polls will say?

It is definitely nice to see but there is a long way to go in the season. Some great series this weekend as DU enjoys a bye week.

WCHA
WI @ CC
UND @ MN
UMD @ MSUM
UAA @ MTU

Non-Conference
SCSU @ Quinnipiac

DU has a 2 point lead over UMD for 1st. They are the only team that could knock DU out of first this weekend and by the end of the weekend will have played two more league games than DU. CC with a sweep of the Badgers could tie DU for 1st. Everyone else playing WCHA games this weekend is 5 points or more behind DU.

Ryder and Wrenn got DQs along with two UAA players.

Very costly defensive suspensions for the Pios heading to Wisconsin.

Two plus hour delay to get the box score "right".

And even after all that it seems that not a single punch was thrown (unless they failed to be specific on Ryder and Wrenn).

Fighting or Punching
SECTION 17. a. A player shall not fight an opponent or participate in a fight, on or off the playing surface. A punch thrown may be considered fighting.
PENALTY—Disqualification.
b. A player who does not retaliate after being struck shall not be assessed a penalty.
c. When a fight occurs on the ice, all non-participating players, excluding goalkeepers, must proceed immediately and directly to their respective players’ bench at the signal of the referee. Goalkeepers must remain in the immediate vicinity of their goal crease.
PENALTY—Minor to offending player(s) or goalkeeper.

Clark clearly punched Wrenn in the face. Colborne also received blows.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

Clark clearly punched Wrenn in the face. Colborne also received blows.

If so, they missed one on Clark. Or else, like Puck Swami said, seems "politics" may have gone into this box score.

Wrenn must've punched as he got a DQ.
Don't tell me Colborne didn't punch back. That's unbelieveable from him. So it probably "balances" "politically".

When I'm Commissioner of the WCHA I'll be reviewing every tape of every game and handing out supplemental DQs (along with supporting video evidence) at my weekly noon Monday press conference.

Wrenn and Ryder got their DQ's for coming off of the bench as did Tuton and Crowell. Crowell got a 2nd DQ as he was flagged for a 2 minute instigating penalty for sucker punching Ruegsegger.

This post is from someone who had firsthand knowledege of what occurred after the game regarding the assessing of the penalties.

Chris posted some good information previously on the box score/penalty distribution process, which was less political than I first feared. His information comes from very reliable sources.

This was a difficult situation, and I hope there are no more league imposed suspensions beyond what was assigned in the final box score posr-game.
