Yes DU has a fight song. I know all the words. Same tune as Purdue's fight song. Don't you ever go to denverpioneers.com? Fight song can be found there.

University of Denver, For You and Me!!

Learn something everyday. :)

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

When you run into DU alums from the 40s, 50s and 60s, they all know it well.
Or in Old Pio's case the 1860's. As he was the one who co-wrote the song with Dorothy Hickey.

Of course the part of the story that most don't know is that Dorothy ran down to the copyright office and registered the song without Old Pios knowledge. So everytime Old Pio hears the song he goes into a silent rage.

Burning right now, thinking of all the royalties I'm owed. I told John Evans she couldn't be trusted.

Chainging the subject, sorry to hear about the passing of former basketball coach Troy Bledsoe. As the piece on denverpioneers.com (yes, I'm aware of it) points out, he brought some of DU's best known and most successful players to the hilltop.

Two games stand out for me: The Pioneers pounded Marquette 100-87 (it wasn't even nearly that close). Coached by Al McGuire and featuring Dean "the dream" Meminger, that team came into the fieldhouse having just been selected for the NCAA tournament. Uh, they may have been distracted from the previous night. Anyway, DU ran off to a huge lead and Al basically 'phoned it in in the second half.

Even better was the win against New Mexico on March 2, '68. They had clinched their conference the night before. More importantly, it was Harry Hollines' last game. Four fraternities, mine included, got together to buy Harry a really nice trophy (picture of the presentation in the K-BooK) because we felt like he hadn't gotten the national press he deserved. And wouldn't you know it, with the game tied and the clock running down, Harry took the final shot and got fouled. With no time left, he made his two free throws. That was g.d. satisfying, let me tell you. BTW, no nicer person on the planet than Harry Hollines.

Another tidbit from INCH. Article on top ten names for 2010.

"Dillon Simpson - An uncommitted 16-year-old, Simpson is heralded as the best player available for college recruiters—he could make a team very happy in 2010. He’s a rookie for the Spruce Grove Saints in the AJHL and reportedly has Denver, Michigan State and North Dakota after him—and likely many others. Dillon has good bloodlines—his father, Craig, is formerly of Michigan State, a longtime NHLer and now in the Hockey Night in Canada booth—and perhaps most importantly is firmly committed to the college route."

C'mon Coach Comley - promise him anything (as long as it doesn't break any rules). :D

CO14ers, are you roadtripping to the UND/DU series?
If so, can you swing through Madison on your way and pick me up?

It might be a little out of your way, but I'll get you some Red Pepper and we'll call it even.

Thanks!

DU basketball  The only thing I can remember about DU bball was in the mid to late 70s when I was there, they had giants playing on the team Seriously the tallest guys I had ever seen. Two of them lived right above me in Centennial Towers and they dribbled a ball constantly. I could hear it from my ceiling all the time. Of course I never said anything, I wonder why  . Anyway, I think Sinbad played on that team!

Sinbad was on the b-ball team in the mid 70s.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

This is classic trap weekend coming up for the Pios, with roadtrips to Wisconsin and North Dakota looming on the horizon as the next opponets DU will face after this weekend. They need to buckle down and take care of business this weekend vs UAA, because they'll have a bye week to heal up and get ready for the Badgers and Sioux.

The Pioneers need to build on the good parts of the Denver Cup weekend, establishing control of the UAA games early and dictating the kind of pace they want to play. The Pioneers have more talent than UAA does, but UAA always plays with tremendous heart against the Pioneers, and if DU takes them lightly, they will lose.

UAA will be coming in a little rusty, not having played collegiate opponents in about a month, and the Pios need to be ready from the drop of the puck tonight.

Thank goodness we've got the "one true" Puck Swami. Otherwise we'd have to invent or buy or steal one. :)

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I've got $10 that says if DU wins, UAA fans will blame the refs! :D ;)

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

You owe me a Coke from the Fish Stick win :D :) :p ;)

Yep, I sure do. Avs could have/should have won that game by 4 goals, but Avs nemesis Roloson was unbelievable in net for the fish sticks that night. It was fun to watch him play that night. Very, very impressive game for him.

I hear there is a chance that DiPietro might play for the Fish Sticks tonight in Dallas  He has played 5 games in the last 2 years. Nice job by the Fish Stick owner signing him to a 15-year contract a few years ago.:o

Roloson has played well for the Isles this year and Biron has not.

I am off to head home for tonight's DU/UAA tilt.

GO DU!!!

Ready, not they were Swami. The force very weak it was. Trapped they were.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

If that was the Friday night effort we expect from DU, then I hate to think what Saturday night could be.

Chevy and Olthius were the news of the game.

Kudos to Ruegs for scoring in his 10th straight.
