Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

bump!! I can't believe we have another weekend without DU hockey, ****!!! I guess we should be completely healthy... We will miss Wrenn and Ryder, but we get Donovan and Nutini back. I hope Nutini is all better, he was turning into my favorite defenseman. So what's the deal with Sat. night? Can we not travel with all four of these guys?
DU can bring two extra players on a road trip. Most teams bring an extra forward & defenseman in case of injuries, but it wouldn't be a total surprise to bring both Wrenn & Ryder. Just because you bring the extra players along doesn't mean you plan on playing them.

DU's done a nice job recently of rolling four lines, which they didn't do the last two seasons. I think DU will be fresher in the playoffs than in years past.

Last Saturday night, the Knowlton-Gifford-Vossburg line got a ton of minutes and were on the ice moments before Rakhshani & Ruegsegger's last minute heroics.

Now if they can start getting some goals, DU is going to be exceptionally difficult to defeat.

Answer for Dmann:
Yes they will be available to be back Saturday but you are limited to a travelling party of 22 (20 players and 2 goalies). Will Gwoz take 8 d-men on the road? Maybe but I doubt it. I see him taking Ryder and a spare forward as the extras.

Ryder is an obvious player to take along, since the series with the Badgers is likely to be very physical, and they will certainly need his hitting in the lineup on Saturday regardless of what happens in the opener.

The other extra travel spot is more tricky. Dewhurst can bang a little, while Salazar was a point producer last year but hasn't produced year. I don't see either one as a difference-maker against UW. I'd probably take Wrenn along, and if someone gets hurt at forward, you could plug in one of the d-men up front.

I really don't get the Salazar slump this season. I can understand a bit of the soph slump setting in or something like that (similar to Barriball at UMN, who went from 20g/43pts his frosh year to 6g/21pts his soph year). Salazar had 15g/25pts last year, and that was unexpected for the most part. But this year to only have 4pts and 0 goals...and then be a healthy scratch recently is very surprising.

Has anyone heard what might be going on with him?

Some mixture of linemates, attitude and work ethic, luck, and competition for playing spots. My guess is its mostly work ethic and competition from his teammates.

Still waiting for a thread lock to appear....

To add to Swami's post a little...last year Salazar played on the first line with Bozak. A majority of his points were scored before the Bozak injury. I don't remember the exact stats, but his point production went way down after the Bozak injury.

This year, when he has played, it has been mostly on the 3rd and 4th lines.

All I can say is that those 15 goals would sure be helpful to this team.
