Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

I love these 60th anniversary uniforms so much that I think they should become the permanent jersey. Next year, just replace the 60th anniversary logo with a small WCHA patch and it's good to go.
The problem is, after dropping $110 on byualum sr.'s Christmas present for the anniversary jersey, when you get it in the mail, it doesn't even have the 60th year annivesary patch on the jersey...byualum sr. wasn't too happy.

Wells Fargo Denver Cup All Tournament Team

Forward - Rhett Rakhshani - DU - MVP
Forward - Joe Colborne - DU
Forward - Travis Vermeulen - SLU

Defense - Patrick Wiercioch - DU
Defense - Tommy Cross - BC

Goalie - Marc Cheverie - DU

I agree Rhett will be in the running for the Hobey but he will be getting some competition from his team mate Chevy.

Rhett hasn't gotten any notice for the Hobey to this point. Chevy's first four shutouts put him in the mix early, but he has been dropping in the last few weeks. Brendan Smith/Frasier?, Wisco defenseman, has been getting the most notice from the WCHA.

But--if Rhett continues playing the way he has.....:)

Agreed! It should have the patch on it. This has prevented me from purchasing the jersey.....

What a game saturday night!!! The BC game ranks right up there with the ND game for excitement...... on a side note six periods of hockey is bad for my liver and wallet!

All the better to wear it next year.

great effort from the whole team. In the third period it was attack, attack, attack. I have not seen that effort in quite a while. They ran BC into the ground with the 3d period effort. And, the crowd came alive. AT last the building was rocking. We need more of that!

Yeah, it was nice to hear some cheers from the non-student section, for a change. The shirtless guy deserves some credit!

You could tell that BC was getting tired in the 3rd period, and DU smelled the blood in the water. I'd like to see that kind of killer instinct more often.

Re: All Things DU XXV - Murray Up and Get The Chevy Out of The Repair Shop

A couple things:

1- I too love the jerseys!! I'm getting really used to seeing them on TV, very classy!!
2- For a brief moment, I thought the shirtless guy might have been DG!!!

3- We should seek out the shirtless guy and get his thoughts on this board (or maybe he already is on this board, mmmwwwaaaa)

4- I think we are seeing signs of this team firing on all cyliders.

5- I see no reason why we won't sweep this weekend!

Thank you!!

I'm pretty sure that I can summarize the shirtless guy's thoughts as follows:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went to a Houston Rockets game on New Year's Eve and both DU games this weekend.

The most noticeable difference is that the NBA has nonstop entertainment during every single break. The NBA is bombarding the senses with music, lights, entertainment, sex (cheerleaders), mascots, contests and kids.

Not saying that DU should or even could copy the NBA, but the whole in-game experience needs an overhaul. I saw ladies doing their knitting this weekend at the DU game.

The last half of the third period was the best I have seen Magness. We were finally were able to motivate the masses. I spoke to the AD twice on Saturday night. She is very aware of what we are doing and accomplishing. :)

Agreed!! I may be thinking of the same lady but she sits across the tunnel from me and I swear if she isn't knitting she is reading a magazine in the middle of the game! Outrageous! If that wasn't bad enough she is in the 2nd row up from the home bench!! Other than that lady, My section always gets rowdy in fact we have had additional security guards come to our section on numerous occasions. :D

We have season tickets to the Nuggets, Avs and Rockies at work. Basically, the office has male casual sports fans and females that couldn't care less about sports. The level in interest between the Nuggets and Avs is not even comparable (the Nuggets winning by a wide margin). Winning (at least the past few seasons) has a lot to do with it. But, the things you mentioned above really have an impact on the casual/non-existent sports fan. When you go to an Avs game, you go to a hockey game. The best entertainment during TV timeouts is watching the people come out and shovel snow by the crease. When you go to a Nuggets game, you have an entertaining night out with a little basketball mixed in to fill the gaps between cheerleaders, Rocky the mascot, music, etc. There's a lot of people who don't even like basketball at all, but love to go to the Nuggets for all the extras.

Most of that basketball nonsense is not for me and I hope DU doesn't try to emulate. One thing I would love to see them "copy" is having a person lead the cheers. In basketball, that PA guy is always starting cheers by yelling "Defense" or "B-B-B-Billups", or whatever. He really gets the crowd in the game.

The equivalent to the PA announcer in college hockey is the band. At Sioux games all you need is one guy hitting a drum three times and the whole crowd is immediately yelling "Let's go Sioux".

With that said, the crowd was awesome on Saturday. I think I've noticed that the general population gets more vocal than usual when the students aren't there and the game is close at the end.

I wish you guys would stop ripping on my mother. She just loves to knit, okay?

And nobody asked me, but: it would seem like a major part of the motivation to buy a "60th Anniversary" sweater would be that patch. Not really superb marketing, you ask me (and nobody did).

I don't want to see DU replicate Pepsi Center in terms of our game night. We're not the NBA, NHL or even Minor league hockey. There are plenty of cookie cutter generic sports experiences out there with canned music, dumb promotions and non-stop action, designed for people with no attention spans.

We are an elite COLLEGE hockey program at an elite UNIVERSITY in a unique City and State. Our game night experience should replicate the University of Denver experience. It should be:

Collegiate - it should look, sound and feel collegiate. What is collegiate? It's DU fight songs, DU band, Student chants, DU sprit groups, DU history photos and videos, DU alumni, DU mascots, DU groups singing anthems, DU kids on the ice in between periods, recognition of other DU sports and other DU groups, DU students having a good time, DU trivia, DU memorabilia, DU giveways, DU colors, etc.

Denver and Colorado: AS well as collegiate, we need a more of a sense of place, referencing where we are - references to altitude, Colorado (Rocky Mountain Way, etc.), Colorado foods, ski and snow experiences, etc.

What we don't need: Generic stuff that could be 'any arena USA'. If it isn't about DU, Colorado or Denver, I don't think we need it.

Maybe it's just me, but everytime I hear that, I conjure up all kinds of low-end imagery of the American South.
