All Things Denver XXXII

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

You guys have no clue how frustrating this home stand was. Thorny has been playing so well lately but Owens keeps sneaking Howe out there for no reason. Howe makes everything look so difficult. Then it appears Owens draws names out of a hat to fill out the lineup. Then during the games this weekend, Owens only really used 3 defensemen. It makes no sense. Add in the Broncos loss yesterday... sigh. It's been a long weekend.

Isn't it about now when "LackofsuCCess" makes an appearance?

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Pios at #12 over at INCH. This assessment pretty much sums it up wouldn't you say?

12. Denver

It’s always something for the injury-riddled Pios: Forward Drew Shore scored two goals and added three assists in Friday’s 6-3 win over Bemidji State, but missed Saturday match, a 3-2 DU win, with a lower-body injury.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

DU really needed 4 points. . .and got 'em. It wasn't pretty. And more people got hurt. But they got the sweep. Hats off to a bunch that refused to lose.
No question we missed Drew Shore--the most consistent player on the team. But Jason Zucker, quoting Serratore "the most explosive player in college hockey" to show his stuff. He had 3 Beavs hanging all over him and still made the pass to Ostrow for a goal. And the angle on the first gioal--I didn't see how it would go in, but JZ did!

Coming of age--Laleggia and Loney.
Dewhurst on the point on the 1st PP unit--could you believe it?
Mayfield's CFB didn't look like a 5 and 10. Refs evening it up or just because he's big?
Down to 3 on D, surprised Gwoz didn't station Dusty next to the net just so he could block shots for Jussi;)

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

LIKE A "RAKH"... Rhett Rakhshani has begun to return to his 2010-11 form after being slowed by injury to start this season. Rakhshani is averaging nearly a point per game this season (21 points in 23 contests), has recorded five multi-point games and Rakhshani’s latest goal extended his point-scoring streak to eight straight games, and he has six goals and six assists in that span.
`Matt Donovan’s two assists extended his point-scoring streak to five straight games, and he’s posted one goal and nine assists in the first seven games of January.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

I think it has been a frustrating season for CC and DU this season. Both teams are not living up to expectations at this point.

CC and DU are on the Pairwise bubble at 14 and 15. The series on February 3rd and 4th is going to have a lot on the line.

Getting a sweep that weekend would be huge for tourney hopes...we could have a few guys back by then too.

Need to get a big group to the Springs for that one.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Tyler Bozak back in the Leafs' line-up tonight and back on the top line.

http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/44211-Rumours-swirl-as-Leafs-coach-forced-to-make-tough-lineup-decisions.html

Ryan Kennedy of The Hockey News is reporting on Twitter that there is a strong possibility that Drew Shore will return for his senior year to play with Nick and Quentin. He will then become a free agent as Florida only has his rights for a short period after he graduates. Interesting development. He has more on this in the link below to "The Hot List".

Per Hockey's Future 8 of the top 19 Florida prospects are centers with Drew tabbed in the middle of the group. They are loaded with centers. HF has the centers listed as follows as part of the 19:

1) Jonathan Huberdeau
6) Nick Bjustad
7) Rocco Grimaldi
8) Drew Shore
11) John McFarland
13) Corban Knight
15) Vincent Tochheck
19) Kyle Rau

Andy Thomas signed to a PTO by Binghamton Senators.

1. Glad @Bozie42 is back.
2. Would love to see Drew Shore back next year. How great for the bros parents would that be?
3. Ottawa did call up one of the B-Sens on D, but I'm wondering if this means Patrick Wiercioch is not expected back for quite awhile. The silence from Ottawa and Binghamton is getting deafening.

I would love to see these three on the same team. I believe this would be a first for DU. We had three Berry bros, but now all at the same time. As for kids going pro, I worry about Zucker and Bennet!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

DU PP is now 9th nationally at 23.58% while PK is 39th at 79.5%. Still some room for improvement on the PK. Overall DU is tied with Michigan for the 5th best offense nationally with a goals for average of 3.54. Defensively DU is tied for 28th with a GAA of 2.79. Drew Shore is tied for 2nd in scoring nationally with 35 points, 1 point behind Jack Connolly. Jay Z is tied for 11th with 29 points.

DU PP is 3rd best in WCHA at 23.19% while PK is 9th at 76%. DU has the 4th best offense in the league with a goals for average of 3.5. Defensively DU is tied for 6th with UNO with a GAA of 3.12. Drew Shore is 2nd in scoring with 25 points, 3 points behind Jack Connolly. Jay Z is tied for 3rd with 24 points.

With the imminent return of Sam, I can see the defensive numbers all around significantly improving. Jussi has done an admirable job in taking over for Sam and Adam when they have been hurt. With 3 quality goalies all healthy, the competition will be good going forward in this season.

Joey LaLeggia named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week and Ty Loney named Co-Rookie of the Week by the WCHA.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

As for kids going pro, I worry about Zucker and Bennet!

I think Bennett will be under the most pressure as he is a 1st round pick (#20). Teams like to get their 1st rounders into their systems as soon as possible as a 1st rounder has the best statistical chance of being an NHL player. This will be a decision that Beau, his parents, family advisor and the Penguins will all have to agree on. Late first rounders typically need a year or two of seasoning before making the jump to the NHL. With him missing a good chunk of this season will the Penguins want him to continue to develop in college or do they want him in Wilkes-Barre Scranton?

Jay Z is a 2nd rounder (#59) which most teams view as having a good chance of being able to perform at the highest level. However, they lack something that most first rounders have, i.e., size, skating, etc. Jay Z is an extremely talented player who is on the small side. He makes up for his size by being gritty, skates like the wind and has a deadly shot. The jump from college to the NHL is huge. The pro game at all levels is much more physical and demanding. Smaller college players seem to hit a wall their first pro year just after the holidays. This happened to Rhett his first pro year in January when he had a tough stretch. He was able to re-energize himself and finished the season with a flurry. There is no doubt in my mind that Jay Z will be an NHLer but going from DU directly to the Wild is a huge jump. Over the past decade or so, only Matt Carle and Paul Stastny of DU have been able to make that jump. Everyone else has toiled in the minor leagues from a short time (Butler) to not ever making the jump (Dingle). Again, Jay Z, his parents, family advisor and The Wild will all have to agree upon what is best for Jay Z's development.

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Think we all knew Neither Bennett or Zucker would be a 4 year player at DU. Both just turned 20--Beau in November and Jason this week. Both want to play in the NHL--sooner rather than later.

Bennett struggled more his 1st year, but did score 25 points. (Laleggia already has 24 this year.) Beau was scoring above a ppg, but has only played in 10 games this year. It will be interesting to see how he plays when he comes back.

Zucker is playing at about the same level as he did his first year. His impact last year was far more than most of us expected. And the freshman to sophomore jump.... Many in Minnesota are eagerly awaiting his presence on the Wild, but some just so their favorite team won't have to play against him:)

Do the Pens and the Wild have faith in the Gwoz to develop their talent to the next level? Which team needs immediate help and do they think Jason or Beau can give it to them?

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

Bump! I'm feeling pretty good about this weekend. I feel confident we can beat these "Bye" guys!!

Re: All Things Denver XXXII

DU 5-1-0 since coming back from the Christmas break. Only loss was the upset by UAH. Hopefully, DU is building their 2nd half momentum. The reinforcements are coming with Brittain, Ryder and Makowski scheduled to be back for UAA. Drew Shore missed the last game after blocking a shot, he should be ready to go per Gwoz. Haven't heard anything on Zac Larraza who got a concussion on Saturday.
