All Things Denver XXXI

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

There's that. And the loss of revenue from those lost home games. And the loss of home advantage, too. What if the games we lose are against UND or CC or God forbid MTU and we have to go back up there again? Would the "national exposure" be worth it then?

FWIW, I don't believe this will change any WCHA games. It will probably change up the exhibition game, and whatever the first non-conference series is. WCHA play usually doesn't start until the second weekend in October.

True...but it still sucks! :D

Prospects from hf boards

10/31/11
Denver's Jason Zucker has quickly become a very talked-about prospect after a highly impressive freshman year that saw him named NCAA Rookie of the Year. Zucker has excellent speed, an excellent release, and a knack for elevating his game. He has shown well in international tournaments too, with three gold medals to his name. Skill aside, Zucker is also a very effective at stirring the pot.

10/30/11
Rhett Rakhshani caught some bad luck during the preseason and sustained a concussion. This is bad news because his size and durability have been questioned throughout his career. He was competing for a spot with the Islanders when the injury occurred. Due to the injury he has yet to appear in a game so far this season. He is expected to be out for a significant time period. If he can return to form, this diminutive forward can pack a serious scoring punch and has proved everyone wrong his whole career. He has proved himself in the AHL, he just needs to do the same when he gets his chance with the Islanders.
Matt Donovan is another big defensemen with a lot of promise. He had a brief stint with the Tigers last season after finishing a tremendous year at Denver University. In his six games last season he sparked a lot of excitement recording five points in those games. This year he is having a little trouble settling in and getting used to the professional game. There is no doubt he has the size, but he must improve his foot speed to be effective in the NHL. Once he does this, he will become a top six defensemen for the Islanders.
The Islanders do have one high-ranking defensive prospect that is not currently playing at the professional level. That player is Scott Mayfield who is currently a freshman at Denver University. Mayfield is a project, but has a ton of upside. The Islanders were very lucky to have him fall to them in the second round of the 2011 draft. At 6'4 he has great height, but needs to further fill out his 200 pound frame. For his height, he has quick feet and is very mobile. In a few years he could develop into an all-situation, top-four defenseman.

10/29/11
There will be four defensemen in the NCAA representing the Canadiens this season, Josiah Didier, Scott Kishel, Greg Pateryn, Mac Bennett. Didier was drafted in the fourth round, 97th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft and shortly after, agreed to start his freshman year at the University of Denver this season.

It would be marginally better if true. But Dubbie's right.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Maybe this only amuses me, but...
DU had Ryan Dingle amd Ohio State has Ryan Dzingel.:p

BTW, our Ryan is playing in Italy this year for Cortina SG==12 games with 8 points.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Big banner ad for this weekend's series when opening the sports section in the electronic edition of today's Denver Post.

From Gwoz's radio show last night tweeted by @DU_Hockey.

@CoachGwoz says Murray and @BeauBennett78 should be ready to go Friday night.

From Gwoz's radio show, you could use the term bag skate for Monday's practice.

I am sure more than 1 or 2 were doubled over at the end of practice.

NBC Sports Network (Versus) announced their 16-game college hockey schedule and DU gets 3 games televised with them.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Per Chambers, looks like both goalies will get a start this weekend.
“We got a goaltending controversy. We’re like the Broncos!” Gwozdecky joked. “They might rotate, yeah.”
Bennett's cut has healed but he lacks strength in his wrist. He will be a game day decision. Knowlton out of "Chateau Bow Wow" and will be playing this weekend. Gwoz not sure if he will stay with 7D and 11 forwards or use 6 D and 12 forwards this weekend.

FYI, alumni hockey game is Saturday at 11AM at Magness. Former DU goaltenders Danny King and Josh Rosenholtz have indicated they will be in goal and ready to jump start their playing careers!

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Former DU D-Man Bob Young selected as #25 of Top 100 Minnesota HS players by Star Tribune. Former DU goalie Pete LoPresti was #93. I would expect Bob Krieger to be coming up at some point.

Noticed there was a Bob Paradise on the list, #69. Do you think he is uncle or father of DU's Chris Paradise? They are both from St. Paul.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

There is a possibility as Bob Paradise has 6 brothers according to his bio. You might want to ask Bacher on the game blog this weekend.

Chris Paradise's dad's name is Larry, but Bob could be his uncle or something.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Chambers had a posting yesterday that says Knowlton will play this weekend and that Gwoz will rotate goalies. Let's hope the boys have taken the medicine delivered in the UP.
