Re: All Things Denver XXXI

DU will be fine. It seems like they are just a click or two off. Gwoz is a great coach and should be able to make the appropriate adjustments before too long. Denver will be right where they need to be come February and March.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

BTW, I did pose the question to Bacher Sat. nite. Is DU's Chris Paradise related to Bob Paradise, who's bio info I included. "denverfan" responded--Yes.

Hockey's Future Prospect of the Month
Joe Colborne (TOR)Toronto Marlies - American Hockey League

Originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Colborne has appeared in only one NHL game so far. Acquired by the Maple Leafs in the deal that saw Tomas Kaberle leave Toronto, the 6'5, 215-pound Colborne is a big physical forward who has begun to establish an offensive presence. Through nine games this season, he has collected eight goals and eights assists with a plus-eight rating.

Another nice feature on Colborne. Unfortunately he is missing today's game with a lower body injury.

I think this is an accurate assessment. The Sioux never get clicking till January. For right now, 12th is an accurate rank for this team. I'm thinking CC will beat us this weekend. I don't think we've reached bottom just yet.

Jason Zucker article in Las Vegas Review-Journal

http://www.lvrj.com/sports/university-of-denver-hockey-player-zucker-adds-much-needed-muscle-133517753.html?ref=753

Aside from the upcoming WJC, Zucker said he's only focused on one goal this season, and it's not ascending to the NHL.

"I'm worried more about this year and what I need to do to get better as a player than when I'm going to make that jump," he said. "Right now, I'm looking at Denver and hopefully winning a national championship."

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

So Ron Moore's family donated $ 5 million to the golf program for golf scholarships. DU is saying this is the second largest gift to the athletic department. That's an extremely generous gift, and I don't mean to look a gift horse in the mouth. But does anyone else find that to be kind of an unusual place to funnel such a large gift? I mean, even if this places our golf teams in the top 10 on a regular basis, is that such a huge benefit to the university, in terms of increased visibility, etc? And providing scholarship $$$ to students is great, but I don't usually picture high level golfers as coming from disadvantaged backgrounds.

These are my random thoughts for a Wednesday.

Weekend predictions:
Friday: CC 5 DU 2
Saturday: DU 6 CC 1

There is only one game this weekend. On Saturday night.

Still, it's one less loss to worry about. Pablo makes an interesting point. Most of us, with 5 mil to donate to the university, would probably not put it in the golf program. Why, we might even consider getting rid of the jelly doughnut in the hockey locker rooom or honoring Maggie and Masterton. But when somebody's got their check book out you just apply the first three rules of accounting: take the money, take the money, take the money.

You younger posters doubtless won't remember this, but there was a lot of b*tching about Chancellor Harper's gift for the humanities garden to honor his mother. 60's SDS types thought that was inappropriate and would have preferred the money be invested in "war studies" or some d*amn thing. The problem is, Chancellor Harper wanted to honor his mother and the humanities garden was it. Take the money, take the money, take the money.

Holy smokes!!! I heard something about the game at CC being televised, and I assumed it was this weekend.

Revised prediction:

DU: 10 CC: 1

Interesting about the controversy over the humanities garden. Glad they "took the money" for that one. If anyone offered me $$$, I would take it, too. Just throwing that out there.

I agree with your point. We could spend 5 mil doing the upgrades to Magness DG recommends, for instance.

Five Northern Michigan freshmen will go to trial next month on misdemeanor charges involving stolen bicycles.
Dylan Walchuk, Mitch Jones, Jake Baker, Eric Walker and DJ Vandercook are all alleged to have committed the crimes on or about Sept. 23.They all involved thefts of bikes on campus

Guess NMU should consider a bike sharing program like DU has. But I never would have expected the hockey players to participate.:D

Point of clarification: The Moore family gave DU the Highlands Ranch Golf Course. The current fundraising program will match the value to endow golf scholarships among other things.

The DP says Denver may try to host 2022 Olympics and Magness is a potertial sight for some of the hockey games. Wasn't Magness built with a possible expansion in mind?

Figured CO14ers would get banned....but then remembered its not UND weekend! :D

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Pre- bump!! Interesting thread started on top preforming Freshmen. This Kyle Rau at Minny has got to be Chad's little bro right? If so, I bet CC is kicking themselves for not getting him!!
