Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Good news from @itsrhett, he started skating Nov. 9. He's been out since 9/27/11.

Tonight all attention is focused on Magness.
Tomorrow DU recruits will be playing in Gold Medal games at the Four Nations Tournaments.
In Switzerland, Quentin Shore and the U-18s will face Switzerland 9:00 am est.
In Russia, Will Butcher, Greg Ausmus, Connor Chatham and the U-17s will face Russia at 10:30am est
Good Luck boys and bring back the Gold.

Admitting my Cornell bias, and despite the fact that Cornell lost the game, this has to rank right at the top. Cornell had four first-team All-Americans playing, including the greatest college goalie ever. Denver had six players who went on to meaningful NHL careers, in an era when few did. Two outstanding teams battled evenly to the closing buzzer, at altitude in Colorado Springs, and only one could win. Shame that only the few that could crowd into the Broadmoor World Arena were able to see it.

Good article about the game and CHL vs NCAA. Forty years and that battle is still going on. Pay special attention to the salaries in 1969.

i was lucky enough to be there. (as a 3rd year law student.).march 1969... world arena colorado springs.....the ncaa final..maggy, cliff. etc.,etc.vs the french canadian brothers and ken... both schools well represented...the place rocked..a real wild west shoot-out..college hockey at its best..i agree, 'all time best.'.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

My thoughts on last night...

Great win to end the skid. Beau Bennet really showed how much he means to this team. He was all over the place. He plays the game the right way. The game misconduct penalty was bottled badly and wasn't even close.

My worry from last night was that although Denver scored 5 goals, they were outplayed for the majority of the game. Had it not been for that 7 or so minutes period where CC's goalies couldn't stop a beach ball, it would have been a much different story.

Denver will need to be focused the ENTIRE 60 minutes in the Springs to pull out a win there. We were a bit fortunate last night.

Great game to watch though...very entertaining.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Looks like a win that could catapult us to a run for the rest of the season. Let's hope we peak at the right time! :)

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Bump!! Here's a question for the DU faithful, will Gwoz rotate goalies this weekend, discuss!

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Gwoz has voiced his support for Murray and would certainly expect to see him Friday. Probably Saturday, too.
Murray has been facing a lot of SOG this year. 37 three times and 46 against Duluth.(2-1-1 in those games) Lapses in the defense haven't made his job any easier, but he still makes me nervous when he skates out of the crease to play a puck.
Will need his A game this weekend as UNO has some high scoring forwards.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Mark Howe in is his Hall of fame acceptance speech last night mentioned former DUers Ron Grahame and Rich Preston who he played with in Houston in the WHA. Mark also mentioned Bill Dineen, his coach in Houston, and father of former DUers Shawn and Kevin Dineen.

Al: I was at the game. I was A Frosh at DU who had 2 season tickets. (thought I could get dates) I was entitled to purchase 2 seats for the game. My memory of game differs from yours. 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3 Final. Anytime Cornell scored, we opened it up to a 2 goal lead again, although Cornell did cut it to 1 goal again late in the game. Cornell never came close to tying it up. I kind of never felt we would lose.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Drew Shore and Danny Doremus nominated for WCHA honors.

UMD's Jacky Connolly and the Archibald kid from UNO won.
