Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Interesting. How do you all feel about that '60-'61 DU team sitting 5th in that ranking?

These kinds of lists are fun and it's always nice to see your team mentioned. That said, the 60-61 Pioneers had 5 all-Americas, one of whom would surely have won the Baker if it existed. Jerry Walker had 56 goals in only 32 games. And they averaged over 7 goals a game, 7.56 to be precise (that's just sick)! With an average goals against of 1.84. I admit my prejudice, but they're the best team in the history of college hockey, IMO. The record speaks for itself.

Including winning the NCAA Championship game over SLU 12-2.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Would it be rude to wear (as usual) my Cowboys jersey to the game tonight? It sounds like the cows are beat up and generally not happy. I would hate to spook them and cause a stampede. Innocent children, vendors, and officials might be injured.
I lean to wearing it, but all you with opinions on mascots and such can tell me if it is worth the risk.

Just don't wear a gold DU sweater.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

BTW, on that list of all time college hockey teams, I'd include DU's 67-68 club. Lost early to the Soviets then ran off 27 straight wins. Blew through the FF, shutting out UND 4-0 in the championship game. 7 shutouts on the season. Defensively, they'd squeeze you 'till your eyeballs popped. And some very, very good players: Magnuson, Koroll, Wiste, Patrick, Miller, Shires. Yeah, they were right up there.

Zucker still needs to improve on the goal to stupid penalty ratio. He'll really need the discipline at the next level with professional refs calling the games.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Thought Beau Bennett's pass to Nick Shore for the ENG showed a lot of class.
Still don't believe Nick was called for "embellishing" when he was pulled down by 2 Mavs.

Post Game: Last night Makowski was quarterbacking the 2nd PP unit. LaLeggia moved to the first. Before the video went on Rycroft said he noticed Doremus on the bench for awhile. Gwoz said he might have been trying to hard and wanted to try different combinations and get ice time for 2 other forwards.

Pat Rooney has a nice feature about Adam Murray.

Most of you know I'd rather date North Dakota "beauty" contest winners than complain about a call, but that deal with Shore last night really mystified me. Sure looked like he was pulled down when the MSU player's blade caught him at mid thigh. "Embellishment" strikes me, generally, as over-officious bull shiza, relying as it does on mind reading.

BTW, those three goals in the 2nd came in 1:47 elapsed time. And I don't recall our ever alert pbp guy mentioning that. It's not like that's something that happens every week.

All I can say about last night's game is WOW. I know Mankato isn't too strong...but when Denver smelled blood...they went for the kill. Great effort last night.

Yeah, DU most definitely exploded offensively last night. Although, Mankato didn't dress a full allotment of skaters plus, I believe, lost two more during the game.

Gwoz wasn't too thrilled with the early effort in the 3rd period and called a timeout to scold the team over, presumably, some sloppiness and stupid penalties while he stood on the ice to address them.

Congrats to Doremus, Mayfield and LaLeggia for their first career goals! And for Joey adding a second!

I thought Tabrum looked pretty decent this weekend, has a bit more speed than I expected.

Re: All Things Denver XXXI

Perhaps unseen at this point:

I swear that the back of Olkinuora's mask has painted..."Olkiholic"...

He appears to be MUCH more than the average 3rd goalie, I think that with Murray looking pretty focused, Juho and (a once healthy) Brittain that we actually have three pretty darn good goalies...
