Re: All Things Denver XXX

Its nothing as clandestine as stealing a previously committed player, just that its tricky situation that will be revealed soon. DU will have a very good D-man and Forward on the roster next season.

I'm a little surprised that Chambers hasn't announced it yet.

Getting Trouba and Shore a year early?

Ok, Dmann here's the big 3 Note: Larraza:
D Scott Mayfield USHL Youngstown 6'4" 200 lbs 52 GP 7-9-16 159 PIM (Youngstown was not a good team)
D Joey Laheggia BCHL Penticton 5'10" 180 58GP 20-62-82 (leading scorer on team)
F Zac Larraza 6'2" 192 USNDT 24 GP 6-3-9

The rest of the class that could become the next Nutini or Jackson or Salazar
D/F Wade Bennett 5'8" 170 NAHL Wichita Falls 25 GP 3-0-3
F Matt Tabrum 5'10" 189 USHL Sioux Fallls/Omaha 57 GP 12-8-20
F Larkin Jacobson 6'2" 205 NAHL Janesville 55 GP 15-24-39 105 PIM

Reading between the lines of dg's post we will be looking for a Big Body forward and an offensive defenseman?? And what is going on with a 3rd goalie ??

This looks fine, not as exciting as last year's class. So who is this "Trouba" kid? Never heard of him. Also, I thought Jackson was coming back. I guess , if I have a point at all, if you look at any team's incoming class they look great. Is this class anything special?, or am I just spoiled from the past few years? It seems like ever since 2005 we have had one amazing Freshmen class after another.

Jacob Trouba's a top D prospect on the USNDT U-17 team. He hasn't committed to any school and could play in the OHL. Should be a top NHL draft pick in 2012. Quentin Shore also plays on that team. Neither player has graduated from high school and can't play in college next year. Jackson is not coming back as he has decided to move on as he graduated back in December. Ryder is coming back as a redshirt senior and will be in grad school.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Mike Chambers will be at Lacrosse practice Wednesday and update. Baxter "more than very, very questionable"(my words) with high ankle sprain and partially torn MCL.
http://blogs.denverpost.com/sports/...uestionable-for-ncaa-tournament-opener/17182/

cross, I think the latest update on Jesse was from the hockey banquet. And as I recall he didn't have to wear the cervical collar all the time, but still had pain and numbness in his arms. Would be entering graduate school at DU.

I was going to ask about him too. Will he ever be able to play hockey again?

Re: All Things Denver XXX

Officially this Sunday's Lax game is sold out. This will be a watershed event for the DU Lax program. If DU makes it to the Final 4 on Memorial Day weekend in Baltimore, it would likley be the first team to make the final 4 without a player from NY or Long Island. With the win over Duke on LI earlier this season and the possibility of facing Hofstra or Hopkins next weekend at Hofstra, Tierney will have opened up a lot of eyes in this area about DU Lax. He does have one NY player coming to DU next season. Sean Cannizzaro is an attack player from Cazenovia Central H.S. in upstate NY by Syracuse. Right now 6 of the top 10 high school teams in the country are from NY with 4 being on LI including #1 West Islip. Cazenovia Central is ranked #10 nationally. Cannizzaro is the 2nd leading scorer on his team with 61 points (31 g, 30 a) in 14 games. The leading scorer is his younger brother, Connor, with 73 points (48 g, 25 a).

Last I heard is that there may be liability concerns with him returning to play at DU.

He looked great at the banquet and had put on a little weight.

There's some precedent isn't there? IIRC, the boy who got so seriously hurt in a game at the old barn against Wisconsin wanted to return and DU wouldn't let him play.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

The two new recruits mystery is over. Mike Chambers posted in his Denver Post blog that Dan Doremus and Josiah Didier will be coming to DU this coming season. They were both originally scheduled to come in 2012 but had excellent seasons in the USHL. They have earned their roster spots on next year's DU team and are both Colorado natives.

Next year's recruits

D Scott Mayfield (Youngstown, USHL)
D Joey LaLeggia (Penticton, BCHL)
D Josiah Didier (Cedar Rapids, USHL)
D/F Wade Bennett (Wichita Falls, NAHL)
F Zac Larraza (USNDP U18)
F Daniel Doremus (Sioux Falls, USHL)
F Matt Tabrum (Omaha, USHL)
F Larkin Jacobson (Janesville, NAHL)

That is good to see, albeit a bit anticlimactic. Any word on where Jacob Trouba or Seth Jones are headed?

Seth Jones in an April 2011 article in faceoff.com:
Seth is uncertain what the next step will be — junior or college — and is leaving that door open.

“I’ll make that decision next year,” Seth said. “I don’t really know what I want to do right now.”

Trouba will be a top 10 draft pick in 2012. The Bleacher Report has him going in the top 7. Wouldn't surprise me to see Trouba go to the CHL. Both will be playing for the U-18 USNDT team next season. They were called up to play on it from the U-17 team at the end of the season.

Re: All Things Denver XXX

"With their win over the defending CHL champion Rapid City Rush last night, the Colorado Eagles (Ulanski and Glasser included) have advanced to the Presidents' Cup Finals where they'll have home-ice advantage over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in a best-of-seven series to claim the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup. This marks the fifth time in eight seasons of existence that Colorado has advanced to the CHL's championship round, winning in 2005 & 2007."
Last night's game 7 was 1 - 0 with that nice little Riley Nelson (from Tech) scoring with under two minutes left in the third half/inning/period.
Wow, let me get this straight:

Co. Thunderbirds, U-18 National Championship
Co. Eagles, CHL Nat. champs, twice
University of Denver, NCAA Champs 7 times
Colorado Avalanche, NHL Stanley Cup champs twice

Colorado, the new "state of hockey"?

Interesting!!!!
