2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

Yeah, the Dems have gathered in a circle and formed the circular firing squad. If they were going to change the nominee they should have done it during the normal process. This really smells like the party trying to choose the candidate cause they don't trust the voters.

This is exactly what it is, and the GOP is going to pounce on that narrative. The people who are currently on the fence about voting at all are going to reject the switch and not show up to the polls. The Dem elites learned nothing from the 2016 debacle.

Biden is the only candidate who can beat Trump at this point. And Trump is the only candidate who would lose to a Dem at this point.

I don't trust any of the initial reporting from any of these news outlets. They've already been proven wrong on trying to jump the gun on who doesn't support Biden - so what reason do I have to believe the new ones are also the case.

It's asinine to change your candidate this late in the game, especially when it means disenfranchising the voters who chose Biden for another term.

I grew up as a republican and voted that way for way too long. The Dems in Disarray theme was so prevelant for the longest time and then 2020 rolled around and Biden brought us all together. For the first time in my lifetime, it seemed like the republicans were no longer voting for their candidate only. There was a rift between those who were pro Trump and those who wouldn't vote for him. That rift is still there, so why the fuck are the democrats cracking now? I hate this party so fucking much some times.

Either grow a pair and everyone publicly tell Biden to GTFO while presenting plan B, or shut the fu-k up and get behind Biden. The middle ground they’re walking is the worst option of the three.

Agree that this festering middle ground is absolutely the worst option.

I'm curious for those who have pointed to polls that show Biden will fare just as well or better than anyone else against Biden trust those polls, but many of the same ones of you toss aside polls that show Biden trailing and point out how flawed the polls are.

I do not know what to actually believe when it comes to polling. We've seen more hiccups in the polls than maybe we're used to seeing, but in many ways they still have been shown to be highly accurate, especially as we get very close to the election they are polling about.

As well I would ask why you are not giving more credence to the notion that people like Shiff, Pelosi, and Obama are apparently of the very stark belief that in fact these polls are highly accurate. Most people here seemed to express -- and rightly so -- a lot of admiration and trust in the jobs that those three have done as professional politicians. Most here rightly believe that Pelosi performed exceptionally well as the Speaker. Most people here believed that Shiff did an amazing job helping with trump impeachments and inquiries and was spot on in all of his communicatins with Americans. Most here believe that Obama has displayed the best qualities that we could hope for in a president. Yet all of them are wrong to question Biden's fitness to be at the top of the ticket and are just part of yet another democratic circular firing squad?

I bring these things up in a sincere hope for good conversation. Believe it or not, this place is one of the last places in the world where you can find some good, honest political conversation (something that I have not always made a worthy contribution to) and going forward, we are all going to spend more time here than some of us may want to admit.

The polls show us the race is deadlocked. Polls showing Trump up by 2 and Biden up by 2 are the same result. Pelosi, Schiff, Obama, whoever wants Biden to drop out, keep saying the polls are showing Biden dragging other candidates down. I’m saying: SHOW ME. All I see are Senators and House members romping to victory or clearly ahead of Biden everywhere. So if you, “I need to tell the media Biden needs to drop out” person, has the evidence, PROVIDE it. Quit dropping tidbits to dipsh-t fucker at NYT or as-wipe mcgee at Politico. Just prolongs the media circle jerk.
Pelosi did an excellent job as Speaker. Schiff was excellent during Trump’s impeachment. Obama was an excellent President (Biden is better, but I digress). All of them are fu-king this up right now.
So, I’d flip that around on you, NDHockey. I know you will vote for Biden no matter what, but since it’s on the challenger to prove why Biden needs to step aside, not on Biden and his supporters to explain why he gets to stay the candidate when he’s already the mf POTUS, tell me what the process looks like for Biden stepping aside, since Nancy and her gang suck at explaining it to the average Democratic voter like myself.

deadlocked vs an insurrectionist and felon is a 5 alarm fire.

I’m sure internally the Dems have a lot more to go on than just polls.

The top Dem leaders either need to come out TODAY and tell everyone to STFU that Biden is the man for the job, or replace him TODAY. ffs

I don’t believe that for a second. It’s not really a fair comparison to look at Biden polls vs polls of a bunch of hypothetical people that haven’t even been campaigning.

Biden’s polling is absolutely horrendous considering he’s an incumbent, the stock market has been doing great, and Donald Trump is an insurrectionist, felon, rapist, and wannabe dictator.

if you’re taking actual candidates, then yes. Kennedy and West don’t have a chance at beating Trump. But I do think there are potential replacements out there for Biden that would completely fuck up Trumps campaign strategy and he’s probably shitting his pants over the thought.

And, if they do change the candidate, get ready for the endless GQP lawsuits arguing it's illegal, or didn't follow proper procedures, or just isn't allowed.

If they really don't want him, they should just shut the eff up, do everything they can to get him elected, and once done, just work quietly behind the scene to get him to step down and make Kamala president.
