2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

They switched sides because of Trans people, more immigrants, and woke politics. They hate all of that. And they're never coming back.

Are there studies or polls to support that, or is it Scoobyvision?

Which I concede is probably clearer than burdvision.

Some minority of voters probably did but that doesn’t explain losing 15 million votes, Trump didn’t exactly gain votes compared to 2020.

I was with a group of germans, canadians, and others on election "night" over here in Germany and we were talking about the biggest differences in why social systems generally work much better here (in Germany) and why they would never work in the US. And it all boils down to a majority of Americans are selfish as fuck. There's no "for the greater good" like you see in Europe. I'm one of millions in this country willing to pay 45% taxes or more because I know it raises the quality of life for nearly everyone - and when I do need to use any of the social services available, they'll be there for me - and they'll be pretty much free.

There's such a minority of people in the US willing to do that and the systems would never work because even the Democrats have policies that are further right than CSU/CDU.

So, I post a comment hoping libs pay some mind to Bernie's post-election comment, and dxmn immediately takes issue with it. His post elicits likes from just about everyone on this board. My original post, meanwhile, elicits a like from Mr. Drew.

Either of those alone is pretty convincing evidence I'm an idiot. Together, they are irrefutable.

Just shoot me now and throw me over the fence.

This brought some much needed levity into this thread. Thank you.

It’s so true and it’s what I miss most about living in Europe

Americans would rather be angry than happy and satisfied

ill never forget when one of my conservative (former) friends asked me why I was worried about getting home once to snowblow my corner sidewalk. Uh, there are kids and old people who need to walk? And he admitted he just didn’t care

What changed between '16 and '20 (and, in reverse, between '20 and '24)? Biden got 81 m votes to Harris' 68 m. Dumps fell off in '24 as well, but only by 2 m. People who stayed home in '24 but voted D in '20 are not gettable?

Donnie butchered Covid. One of the things I wish Kamala had emphasized more. We were having a 9/11 a day for like six months straight. The one time as president Donnie faced a crisis, and completely fumbled the ball. And untold numbers of Americans died as a result.

But Americans have no long term memory.

Nope. Gas prices dropped $0.15 this week, so obviously it was because Trump was elected.

Not the fact that some refineries in the Midwest re-opened from maintenence projects, there was a switch nationwide to "winter blend" over the last month, and travel is typically down because Thanksgiving is approaching.

Can't wait for the MAGA morons to brag about the US becoming "energy independent" when Trump lifts the Russian oil sanctions and craters the US production market. And when Russia captures Ukraine, and Ukraine's natural gas production also causing the US to crater (because we already lead the nation in production of LNG). And, the fact we've been energy independent for a few years now, Thanks Biden!

Drill, baby, drill, because it would take years to build and make active new production facilities in the US. And US producers are sure as sh*t going to want to cut into their precious profits just to p*ss money away building the new facilities to only to sell at a loss because of the influx of foreign product flooding the market.

I really hate having autism and empathy. Because I've hyper-learned about a topic I shouldn't have to, and care about the results. I really wish I could be as stupid as a Trump voter and not give a shit about everything.

Yet another thing I don’t understand: For a long time, just about everyone was calling this race as within the margin of error. Yet so many are acting as if the outcome is a great shock. Given what happened in ‘16, how could this outcome take anyone by surprise? Undesirable, but entirely foreseeable.

Saw something today that said people are already saying that the economy's better.

Quite a few people here predicted the polling that was showing the election close was actually going to be wrong, but in the other direction. There is (I believe) a myth that has taken hold around here that the polls are are way off because young people do not answer phones. This is somewhat anecdotal, but we had a higher % of people answer our phone bank calls this year than in any other year I have been here, many of them under 40. In 2022 for the mid-terms and last year in both August and in the fall for Issue 1 it was approximately 1 in 20 calls that were answered by the voter. This year it was more like 1 in 4. And we had far more people making phone calls. I know polling and phone banking is not apples to apples, but it's certainly one kind of fruit to another. If you are answering my phone bankers calls (going allegedly to people we identified as likely Democratic voters) why would you not answer those of a pollster? We also have demographic information attached to the call (age, gender, county) and young people were answering calls. And to my chagrin many were indicating they were voting to continue gerrymandering and send Sherrod Brown packing.

My pessimism pissed off a lot of my colleagues I'm sure, but privately I told them Brown had no chance of winning re-election and Harris was going to lose Ohio by more than either Biden or Clinton. The election in Ohio went almost exactly as I expected (I thought the gerrymandering issue would be closer with a decent chance of "yes" prevailing, but it went down 54-46), as did the election nationwide. On another forum 2 days before the election I posted trump would win easily, flipping nearly all, or all, the states Biden flipped in 2020. Once Arizona is done being counted it looks like that is what will have happened.

If we want the Democrat to win the next presidential election (if there is one) 2 things need to happen. 1, the 5hit will have to hit the fan so the incumbant's party is unpopular. And 2, don't nominate a woman. We are both a racist and a misogynistic country, but the misogyny is vastly deeper than is the racism. Indiana voted for a black man who had Hussein as a middle name for f uck's sake and he spent 8 years as president. The unemployment rate was nearly 8% when he was re-elected, almost twice what it is now. But he peed standing up. Because we are so everlastingly stupid, we are doomed to be so everlastingly f uc ked.

It's kos, so take it with a grain of salt, but this is for Race Boarder, drew, and all the rest who whine and moan about how the poor nasty Dems just talk down to and disrespect the salt of the earth Republicans so, and how we really need to understand them, and learn where they're coming from.

Here's a little sample.
I heard a guy talk on camera about grabbing women by the pussy 8 years ago. And I said to myself “That person should never be President.” And any other opinion besides that from My Tribe and My Boat is bullshit. I feel dumber for having the argument. Don’t give My Tribe that cover. We don’t deserve it and we never did. We are adults. We have our own agency. And we make our own choices. And we are responsible for our own actions. And you don’t want to hear this, because it means the problem is unfixable. But sometimes choices made by people in My Boat are not due to ignorance. A lot of it is malice.

Stop treating My Boat as essentially a group of Special Needs Kids who don’t know any better. And ought to coddled and pandered to. You want to talk elitism and looking down on us? I find that insulting. If we do something wrong, you should be allowed to call us on it. It’s not like My Tribe doesn’t tend to spend all day trashing YOU guys. You are asking folks on this site to fight fascism with one hand tied behind their backs. That is what is known as asymmetrical warfare. (How great is spellcheck?). You think Captain America tied a hand behind his back while punching Nazis? Nope. He just punched ‘em. Because Nazis need to be punched.

You want to say My Tribe is innocent, fooled, had the wool pulled over their eyes, and can be reached? THAT is the actual elitist condescending position. Not treating us as equals worthy of either respect or scorn depending on what we do. Not treating us as adults capable of our own choices.

State Republicans staring at 81 million easily voting by mail in 2020 and figuring that the answer to that is making it much, much harder to register and vote.

Outsourcing your agency through a vote to politicians and bureaucrats does not mean you are empathetic.

Brainwashed, yes.

If you want to be like Germany and Europe you would be advocating for Sovereign States.

Not a bloated Fascist government.
