2024 Elections: One Last Chance for Democracy

The left doesn’t want bodily autonomy? Or first time home buyer assistance? Or expanded child tax credits? Or legal marijuana? Or trans rights? Or anything anti-Project 2025?

Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania women are protected by their state. Fuck the rest of them if they can't get it. Homebuyer assistance just means all housing prices go up. Tax credits are just me getting my money back that the government stole. Trans rights, yeah sky daddy told me not to care.

(sorry, mostly venting)

That's what I was thinking in an earlier post. Certainly the manner in which Harris was picked did not do the Democrats any favors, but the responses and analysis we've seen in the last day seem to me like a lot of voters made up their mind two or three years when inflation was at its worst that the Dems would be punished regardless. I think she did a good job trying to get across whose policies would actually make it worse and bring it back (since we're down to the 2% target now), but people didn't want solutions, they wanted blame. Not sure any other candidate would have gotten around that better.

I think it's a fair point to concede that the judgement was made in 2021-22. But that wasn't a secret.

And again, I'll repost the point I made this morning:

As a whole, Mookie has a point about the "economy".

Look at the make up of the board here:

- Only two regulars here that I can think of DON'T own a home
- I'd bet more than a few (30-40% ?) make well into the six-figures as a household (or are living at an equivalent economic status internationally)
- You easily support yourself AND kids
- Vacations/Travel (many international) are regular thing
- Y'all have retirement funds established

I've brought this point up many times over the past 3-4 years and I just get talked over. Just saying "corporate greed!!!11!1" doesn't make the situation better while you continuously flaunt the "great" economy numbers. Eventually when you do that enough, you will tick off whomever you are speaking to. As a whole, the board talks down to people who don't have money.

This is a real thing.

There are many involved that simply don't know how to message to people outside of cities and/or white people who are "poor". Even here, I kept getting told to "look at the stats" and explain while I felt the economy was bad. The fact that my discretionary spending went away was lost on most of the board here (save for a select few). Most of y'all just dismissed the point and went back to your much more affluent life.

Yes, the rate of that inflation is back down to the norms we usually have, but stuff is still a helluva lit more expensive than it was four years ago. Thing is, wage growth is also up. But you don't hear people talking about that. And we all know Repubs will take care of that little problem in no time.
MSNBC was talking about how there’s an education gap between the parties. That’s why the economy needs to crash and crash hard. People are going to have to suffer, really suffer, if they’re going to learn that Rs are terrible for people and the economy. And no getting bailed out by the Dems in the midterms. Suffering for all four years is the only way.

Anyone acting as if the democrats have done anything different is truly delusional. Obama easily could've with the supermajority he had but was a total fraud who was funded by the banking industry and other major corporations. It's not like Trump gained a massive amount of votes, the democrats just lost 15 million because it's obvious they weren't going to improve or change anything in that regard.

A point Bernie makes in his post election statement.

Gee, I know many Who will be dying to appeal to them now, that all these privileged white *****s who teamed up with women hating Muslims to really stick it to everyone female, gay, and of color.
Yeah, but if the Dems actually listened and nominated *checks notes* 83 year old Bernie Sanders it would’ve been a landslide!

(/s obviously)

You just want everyone else to burn. Primarily women who make up half the population.

No that would be Jim wanting the economy to crash so that team blue can win and then... not change anything again.

And remind me who was president with a majority in the senate and house when women got their rights stripped? Did democrats have any other majorities during the past 50 years to enact abortion rights into law?

And what was your plan for getting Joe Manchin to switch to supporting ending the filibuster to put those through in a 50/50 Senate?

Real question for those who seriously want to leave: where can you realistically go?

Canada is likely on the verge of a Conservative landslide that’ll be running the same Heritage Foundation playbook as here (if BC could only narrowly hold off a Conservative government, the rest of Canada doesn’t stand a chance).

The UK has a Labour majority but it’s taking it in all three holes with Brexit so their problems are significantly worse. Plus you get the same culture war BS!

Most of Western Europe is desperately (and not that successfully) holding off the far right. With Russia soon to be free to operate as they wish, that’s probably their next propaganda target. You might get a few good years but I doubt it’ll be permanent.

I'm one who doesn't fit your profile. And I don't live in a city. I'm rural, surrounded by MAGA idiots. And they are idiots. Think they know everything, while they don't know anything about how anything works.

And you. Whining about your lack of "discretionary' spending. You understand what 'discretionary' means, right? Harden up, and get another job, like the Repubs tell you to. I have no discretionary spending either, but that's my own damn fault. And yet, my financial situation is better than it's been in years, despite my having to find a new place to live that's over twice what my old place was. Because I've had to make choices about where and when I'm spending my money. And I'm gonna be out of work for three months getting a knee replacement, but I've been setting money aside for me to live on. Luckily, I have a company vehicle, cause I can't even afford a damn car. Again, my own fault. I know why I'm in the situation I'm in, and I don't need to find a scapegoat, or blame someone else, or say it's because 'the Dems don't know how to talk to the poors'. Some people just can't be reached. Don't want to be reached. Cause they know everything. Despite not knowing anything.

Even I can see by all measures that the economy is doing fine. Yes, inflation was a problem, but I understand why it happened, and what the administration did to alleviate it. Because I can know and understand stuff. Unlike MAGA dipshits, who just want to find someone else to blame for their sorry lot in life. Because it just can't be possible that (supposedly) smart white folk like them be stuck in the situation that they're in. Hey. I've got an idea. Quite spending $300 a week on booze and smokes. Or all that MAGA shit you own.

Jesus, you whiny ass titty babies. Good thing we didn't have your sort during WWII, we'd all be speaking German.

What is your excuse for Obama not codifying it into law when he had a super majority? It's not like you only had 1 rotating villain back then that you could pin all the party's failure on.

And gee IDK, maybe stop throwing tens of millions at the guy's primary campaigns knowing full well what his position is.

Seeing stats that 46% of Gen Z voters broke for Trump. I look forward to smirking at the next generation of adolescent-minded deadbeats as they squat at the end of the bar and whine about their "b1tch ex" getting a court order to garnish their non-union wage for child support.

Bold assumption that anyone would have sex with them.
