It may be crass to say so but maybe this needs to get a little ugly... Something needs to end this I don't know what that is...I don't know if anyone knows what that is. But the way he's going and the way the MAGAs want it to go needs to stop.

I can see your point...cant even really argue against it. Not even sure I don't agree on some level. Im just saying a bunch of ticked off rednecks with authority issues, a lifetime supply of meth and guns for days are the other side of this and they don't care who they hurt. Hell of I was in the FBI I would be scared...(an old friend is)

I hope the judges have security cause some cuck who thinks Bobo is a scholar is going to do something stupid.

Phuck Teump and the people who enabled him everythingis on them.

I completely agree that it's something to be afraid of and it's not something I would readily volunteer to fight... But it push came to shove am I an American or am I not?
I do like that the Colorado ruling directly cited a case from Gorsuch... Maybe they're hoping that'll give him some pause...

Honestly I'm not even sure how the Libs will vote...

I agree with you btw...I just wish he had been convicted first.

Oh the miniscule chance any GOPer had to win the primaries is dead. The entire party now has to line up behind Trump and play the conspiracy card. They don't have the brains to take the hint and get rid of him they proved that when they didn't remove him.

How long until Mississippi or Texas sues to take Biden off the ballot after he is Impeached?

Oh it’ll be “Biden didn’t secure border so he was part of an insurrection”

tho being off ballot in either of those shithole states isn’t really gonna do much to Biden

I just most of the opinion...it's really well done I won't lie. It only mentions the Primaries though...

For the slow kid in the back who didn't do the assigned reading......what does that mean? Trump can't be on the GOP primary slate but could somehow get onto the presidential ballot as an independent or 3rd party? So the Presidential Ballot could read:

Joe Biden (D)
Ron Desantis (R)
Donald Trump (I)

I am down for that.

I was wondering that too. It does say that in the Primaries he can't be written in either so unless the SC intervenes according to Colorado Trump will not be the nominee. And remember it was the Colorado Electors that brought the case not the Democrats.

The Nation does a nice breakdown, with snarky language (so it does sound like me I won't lie) but I disagree with their reasoning as to why it gets overturned. I think they will get super pedantic with their "strict textualism" and say it does not specifically mention the Presidency. Now of course that is just full on crap since it says "any office" but they will say that since it mentions specific ones they obviously had only those in mind and they left out the VP and President. Same reason people thought they would rule in favor of the Independent State Legislature Theory. (which admittedly they did not)

Because it can't be 0% last night before reading the opinion I was at .01% chance they do the right thing. After reading it, I bumped it up to 1%. The CSC gave them multiple outs...ways to rule against Trump that would be fully in line with conservative values and past precedent. (including the Gorsuch case which was tactically brilliant) Problem is I would have to believe they care...and we know most of them dont. Hell how many of them made their bones on Bush v. Gore? Its in the bag and the problem is when Trump wins that he will be 10x worse than he is right now.

Lotta melting down on the right about taking an Insurrectionist off the ballot in a single state. Even the people competing against him are melting down. Personally I am still trying to figure out how Nikki Haley came up with the campaign slogan, "(Trump) he was the right President at the right time". I mean, really? He was? For who exactly?

Hearing they're thinking of getting Biden thrown off the ballot everywhere for actions against the Constitution at the border of the United States. Interesting take.

So... this is insanely complicated and technical. To declare it a partisan thing is 100% nonsense, but that's par for the course.

There's virtually no way SCOTUS let's this stand. There are three, possibly four justices who look to the answer first and then work backwards (see: Dobbs, VRA, EPA, Bruen, etc.), so there's pretty much no chance this holds up. But because the 14th Amendment is a bit... vague on things like whether or not the President is even affected by it, or whether it is or is not self-executing, or whether it's appropriate for the CO SC to have found that Trump participated in an insurrection when that was not on trial, there are a whole lot of outs available.

In general, I don't like doing business this way. Trump is absolutely, unquestionably uniquely dangerous to the American Experiment (so much so that I firmly believe that a victory for him in 2024 is the end the US as we've known it), but what are the unintended consequences of some of these arguments?

At any rate, F Trump and his cultists, and I hope they sleep like shit waiting for this eventual SCOTUS overturning.

That is the weird thing it's one state and it's the Primary...and not an important one.

Maybe if we knock the traitor off a few more ballots he'll bleed out from impotent fury (furious impotence) and save everybody the trouble.

SCOTUS won't let this stand because if it did, it all but guarantees the 2024 election will be an utter shambles.

FTLT is on to something when they posted "maybe this needs to get ugly... and something needs to end this." We can't continue as this nation if trump is at the top of the executive branch. But we also can't continue as this country if we have endless arguments about "was the election fair" and "my election was stolen!" and any related nonsense. The vast majority of people have to believe that elections are more or less fair and counted accurately. But nearly half the country does not believe that to be true unless the republican wins. Polls also have shown an alarming number of democrats who believe there is at least some realistic chance THEIR votes may not be counted.

Frankly I think there is a near-zero chance this gets resolved absent violence on a scale we haven't seen since the Civil War. Like the Civil War, one side will clearly be responsible for starting it. Unlike the Civil War I am not sure if the side I am on will eventually prevail.

Seems rational to me, not alarming. In 2020, there was a cabal and an insurrection led by the POTUS aimed at NOT COUNTING THEIR VOTES.

Alarm is the rational response.

Except we can't have a Civil War like that because there is no dividing line between "them" and "us". What is my suburb going to war with the suburb next door? Is Minneapolis going to attack Litchfield? It isn't feasible. We are all co-mingled.

And the problem is keeping Trump off the ballot doesn't help this problem, it exasperates it. It is one thing for him to call it rigged when he loses heads up...it is another when forces (even if they aren't Democrat) are lining up against him.

I fear the only way to prevent what is coming is for someone to do something really stupid...so dumb it stops everyone in their tracks.
