2024 Bracketology - The Road to Connecticut

As of 10:21 pm, USCHO shows Plattsburgh Cortland as a 3-3 tie in OT. Does the Pairwise treat it as a tie, or is the game not correctly reflected in Pairwise right now? It would seem right now that if Tufts wins tomorrow, Geneseo is the last at large (and Plattsburgh is out). If Trinity wins, Plattsburgh is the last at-large.

This is why it flipped back. The Pairwise should still treat it as a loss I believe, just like an OT win gave Plattsburgh a win credit last week

Holding Bracketology to see if they fix it

They may have to fix it by hand because the OT went past five minutes, and it may have gotten confused. It is considered a W/L.

It is certainly a typo. The game is recording as a tie for Cortland on the PW also. Which can’t be right.

Now that everything looks current, this is where we stand with one regular season game to go. If Trinity wins, this will be the final outcome, if Tufts wins, all hell breaks loose tomorrow

I’m sorry I just don’t get Pairwise! I have been been refreshing for the last hour and it has changed at least 4 times! Obviously need to go to bed lol!

This one isn't a Pairwise issue as much as it's some kind of error with USCHO's system keeping the correct score. It seems to be rectified though, even though the PWR has changed twice in the 30 minutes since I've posted the latest bracket

Well it’s just keeping the Plattsburgh faithful awake lol! I was sure we were done after I turned off the game. The old tried and true mark one, eye ball test!

Please explain how 8 in the Pairwise hosts a quarterfinal over 6 in the Pairwise.

I don't know if Pioneer247 is merely simplifying the notation or he is really mistaken in how he lists the home games in the second round.

Second round home sites are not always predetermined. They could be decided after the results of the first round based on the teams who win that round and thus who has the higher seed in the matchup. (Like for instance, there is no way Utica plays at Cortland, if those two teams should win their first round. That game would be at Utica.)

Another factor many have to consider is each school must put in a bid for each round (due a long time ago), which in part will verify they are even able to host a particular round. Not just because of making sure a school has the proper requirements to host, but also the school has the ice available to host. There have been times where schools play at community rinks, and they have already removed the ice. Or, perhaps the ice was reserved for something else that can't be changed. And we're not talking just game time ice, but guaranteed time for both teams to practice that morning and the day before. Heck, a school may have scheduled a concert in their own rink which simply can't be moved.

So, even a higher seeded team may not get to host for the above reasons.

It was an error on my end

Admittedly, Stevens Point was ahead of St. Norbert for so long that muscle memory had those teams in those spots

As of 7:49 this morning, Plattsburgh is still showing on my device as #10. Where do you see they dropped to #11?

We talked about this a bit last night! This may be a problem with USCHO, as they have the score final a tie with Cortland. My guess is this will correct itself and Plattsburgh will drop!

So everyone’s guessing. They don’t have to drop. Curry didn’t do anything to move up (except not play)… the rankings already reflect a non-win. Will a loss really drop them enough to lose a position? I was hoping someone actually knew.

It was reflecting the loss at times last night and was showing Pburgh below Curry. Take that information for what its worth. There is clearly an error in the system.

Where will the official Pairwise be posted after today’s game? Is there an official Pairwise?

Does the fact that it was also an ot loss instead of a regulation loss affect the pairwise? I know it doesn't affect the overall record

I believe it mattered in past years, but there was a post last weekend that the overtime adjustment didn't apply anymore.

And the final numbers show Plattsburgh dropping a couple spots to #12... a dive into schedule begrudgingly shows how weak our schedule was. We did beat Geneseo twice, but those were the only top 10 games we even played this year. Curry owns a win over #2 Trinity as their best win. Not sure how Skidmore jumped us, but it doesn't matter. The coaches need to beef up the non-conference schedule if they want the at-large bids to be in play. Or maybe the team is just playing for the SUNYAC auto-bid every year.
