2024 Bracketology - The Road to Connecticut

Speaking of which, is there still bad blood between Point and Adrian? I recall the Point coach (former coach?) vowing to never schedule Adrian again.

Endicott at Elmira > Trinity
Wisc Stevens Pt at Adrian
St. Olaf at St. Norbert
Curry at Geneseo > Hobart
Cortland at Plymouth St > Utica

True, but they can finally get to the FF.

SMH.

Cortland just knocked off Geneseo (ranked #4 at the time) and Plattsburgh (ranked #5 at the time) in consecutive games...those are two VERY good hockey teams. And Plymouth State is certainly not any kind of "gimme"...it wouldn't stun me if they take out Cortland.

Utica has always had a chance to get to the Frozen Four...they just need to win against really good teams. They've proven they can do that early in the season...but they seem to be consistently "snakebit" come March.

I'm not rooting against them...but I do not agree that this is a more favorable bracket for them than previous years.

Oh, I definitely believe it's the most favorable first game matchup they've had in a while, and that's not taking anything away from Plymouth State and Cortland by saying that. But if I had to rank favorable brackets for Utica, this is tops.

But, I have the full confidence that Utica will still find a way to blow it............

Two years ago UNE was 7 in PW and PSU was 24 in PW heading into the tournament. That was technically a better draw than this year (PSU #4 and Cortland #18). But its splitting hairs.

Cortland is NOT the same team as the first semester. They can beat anyone right now !

Well the FF is in the East so save on flights......................................... ;-)

Oh, I totally understand why. I know there are more than twice as many teams in the east than out here in the (mid) west. And cost may be an issue. Just nice for more avenues for us out here...

As long as it is truly earned I have no issues with more Western teams.

LOL

- Includes 1.2/.8 Home/Away weighting.
- No adjustment to calculation for games decided in overtime.

Thanks. So, there is a weighting for home/away, but not for regulation/overtime. Interesting.

I will forward this to the person I was discussing this at USCHO.

As the person who Russell was discussing this with at USCHO, I can fill in some information.

USCHO's owner Tim Brule is the main developer for stats and rankings. He worked over the weekend with the NCAA's consultant on the RPI and Pairwise to get it correct. The issue was with stats coming from Genius (the NCAA stats supplier) and the NCAA itself, especially dealing with which teams were home or visitor or if a game is at a neutral site. Strangely enough Genius doesn't list home and visitor but team1 and team2 and those are sometimes are not entered correctly and we have to go in and fix them.

According to Tim, 90% of the work USCHO does fixing stats each season is from D-III because of errors with box scores. Many schools/leagues have not updated to the new NCAA software, so they are still using the old StatCrew which has to be converted to the new system after the game. Games from those schools can't be displayed as live scores because there's no live data. (And not as some say because USCHO doesn't care. If USCHO didn't care, Tim wouldn't spend hours each week fixing the mess.) We understand many schools have limited resources.

All that said, USCHO spent many hours over the weekend to get our PWR to match the NCAA's official data which the NCAA's consultant had spent hours correcting for tournament selection.

When collegehockeystats.net was in business, we had a correct feed from them and received notices when things needed to be fixed. USCHO can't force schools to update their software and we get whatever Genius sends us.

Thank you for that post.

We get all this good stuff for free, and we sometimes have the gall to B&M if we detect a minor glitch once in a while. Talk about biting the hand.

I got on board with this site very shortly after Al Gore invented the internet. It was all text then, no graphics, but it was (and remains) my favorite web site for most of the year.

I, for one, appreciate what you do.
