2023 D3 Bracketology

I always thought it was so strange that back in the day the Big 10 did not have a post season basketball tournament and elected to award their AQ to the regular season champion. Finally, they saw the logic and excitement behind the post season tournament and changed their bylaws to award the AQ like every other major conference in the country. Also, this sets conferences up with the best opportunity for NCAA success as their hottest team at the end of the season will always be participating.

They changed it because they saw how much money the other conferences were making with their postseason tournament. (And Bobby Knight was no longer coaching at Indiana, because he never wanted one...)

The Ivy League was also one of the last holdouts for a BB postseason tournament.

Wait, Fishman is Bobby Knight?!

Adrian is really a challenge geographically. That Oswego/Adrian v. Hobart would be bogus and reminds me of 2019 when eventual champion #1 Stevens Point had to play #3 SNC in a quarterfinal.

If Oswego doesn't win the SUNYAC, the bracket becomes a mess

You will have Adrian coming to Hobart for the QF game, and that would leave Utica, the current #1 team in the PWR, without a bye

500 mile rule apply to the Quarterfinal round as well? If not, they could do MIAC champion vs WIAC champion with the winner traveling to Adrian for a western quarter.

According to the manual, the only way the 500 mile rule would be waived is if you cannot make a bracket under that parameter.

We all know that neither the champion of the MIAC or the WIAC deserve a bye, but under the current rules, they will both get one

I believe the 500 mile rule is only for the first round.

That is not what the manual says.

And either way, If the 3 teams in the West are Adrian, St. Scholastica, and Stevens Point, they cannot exist in a 3-team pod, because there's a scenario where St. Scholastica and Adrian would have to play, and they're almost 700 miles apart

Also precedent has shown that they will take Adrian and stick them in with the East if need be

If Point beats Eau Claire in the WIAC championship I’d be OK if they had a bye to the quarters.

Point is old school.

Last I checked, we are not discussing D-1 hoops. Try to keep up.

D-3 hockey LOSES money on PS tournaments, by and large.

And that's what makes their existence (and moronic arguments in favor of them, such as yours) so asinine.

According to the NCAA website, the WIAC does not have an auto bid. If that is correct, nothing better happen in conference tournaments that moves the at large cut line up the PWR list or neither of the WIAC teams may make it.

Realizing there is lots of important tournament hockey to play, what if Plattsburg beats Oswego, does Norwich have a shot at the last "at large" bid since it looks like their PW would be higher?

Even High Schools in New York have tournaments to determine the top team. First each Section determines a winner with a tournament and then they move on to the NYSPHSAA tournament to crown the state champion. Every sport at every level has a similar playoff system. You really need to move on because you seem to be the only one that doesn't like the playoff system as it is,

I've been eye-ing that scenario yes, and they would have a shot

What Norwich needs is straight chalk across the board besides the SUNYAC to have a chance. If any of Utica/Adrian/Hobart loses in their championship game, Norwich is done in my opinion

Add Plymouth State and Point to that too.

There is a very small window where it could happen.
