2023 D3 Bracketology

Nope. Unlike you, I don't spend all my time here every night while the ice cubes and spirits hit the tumbler.

You've also missed earlier posts about the UCHC being a terrible conference and perennial national power Utica 0-2-1 against common opponents with SNC who is 2-2.

4th at best in the NCHA, for sure.

Relax, his post wasn't condescending at all. Bartman is admittedly new here, and although I don't post in the Hobart thread I still follow it.

Bartman and llama are both great assets here. I enjoy reading their posts. (Although they need to get their picks in for the 2023 D-III Tournament Pick'em Game. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL)

I have no way of speculating on how Utica would have faired in the NCHA, but 1-7 was incredibly competitive. In terms of how 2-7 faired against Adrian, 2nd place Aurora was arguably the only team in that group that wasn't able to skate with Adrian.

SNC split with Adrian. Trine had a 6-2 win and an OT loss against Adrian. MSOE was at least competitive with Adrian through 2 periods in their 8-4 loss. Marian had a 5-2 win against Adrian. Lake Forest had a tie and a 5-3 win over Adrian.

You know, I'd be fine with you dismissing my post in such a condescending way if you actually had some kind of point / counter-argument to make. It seems more likely that my point went right over your head. But, let's look at your post....

Hobart did not lose to Elmira because they were missing a few players and their coach. They smoked Elmira 7-0 Friday night with the same people missing. They lost that game on Saturday because they didn't show up ready to play 60 minutes.

Your second comment is great - glad to learn your preference on where the data and the polls place Hobart...but I'm not sure anyone cares what you would prefer?

Your third point lives somewhere in between banal cliches and "thanks Captain Obvious".

If you're wondering why nobody chimes in on your Hobart thread....it is likely because your posts are typically a public service announcement and/or you talking to yourself.

OK, Slow down. I posted something earlier , but then deleted because it was an unhelpful reaction. First, I certainly did not mean to be condescending. I am a Hobart fan, so I liked that you painted the Statesmen in a positive light, but as you pointed out one of their losses came to Elmira that is not in the top #25 , and as you further explain it was mostly because they didn't show up( I concede after a 7-0 win the night before to the same team missing a 2 players was not as relevant compared to being overconfident from a 7-0 win). My point was IF you were trying to compare the records or Utica v. Hobart, you did some convenient cherry picking against Utica by omitting the Elmira loss and only comparing the top 25 records of each team( Utica has no loss to any team below the top 25, and 2 losses to last year's champs while Hobart hasn't played an opponent on that level). If your point is Hobart has a tougher schedule, I'm with you on that assuming the PWR is accurate and reasonably predictable.
My comment about being happy that Utica is ranked above Hobart is merely trying to fly under the radar or avoid having the team be overconfident, which as you point out is what happened against Elmira.
Your point about my third point sounds like you know my wife's opinion about many of my points.
As far as your last point, it must be valid because no one posts on the Hobart site now, and I was encouraged by some of your credible comments earlier in the season. So maybe you should show me the way. I'm an old football player that never played hockey , but I'm excited by the Statesmen this year, so I'd like to enjoy the end of the season with the possibility of the first National Championship....now I've really jinxed them.

Hate to break it to you, but I was NOT one of those folks who accepted that. We explained the process so people could understand what was happening but I never accepted it.

But you keep living in your own delusional reality. Maybe some day the clouds will actually answer you.

Yet, you defended it anyway. I recall that much.

Work on awarding AQ's to RS conference champions, next-up, and thank you so much.

Yep - let's slow down. Cue the cheesy Hallmark Channel background music as I come clean....

I posted
"Looking at the current top 25 teams in terms of PWR.....Hobart has a combined record of 8-1 against the top-25 teams. Utica is 2-2-1."

My point was both that Hobart had played almost twice as many games against top 25 teams...and their win % (.889) was drastically stronger than Utica's (.500). I was hoping to get some back and forth going on strength of schedule...whether Utica's weaker league might hurt them come tourney time, etc. For the record...I don't think my little factoid means Hobart is a better team than Utica...my point was more the old cliche "steel sharpens steel"...and Hobart may be more ready for the rigors of tourney play given their tougher schedule.

But you jumped in to call out a loss against Elmira. Your opening line was "While that is fun and interesting, Hobart lost to Elmira." That really rubbed me the wrong way. I went for the throat in a situation that that type of response (from me) was uncalled for. That is a bit out of character for me.

I APOLOGIZE.

I stopped posting on this forum a while back because I was tired of all the nasty, aggressive posts going around where people were attacking each other on a personal level. And then I turn around and fire off something like that against you - a guy who clearly didn't deserve it. That makes me both a prick and a hypocrite...two labels I'm not especially proud of.

You are a class act to take my shit as well as you did. I didn't see the other post you reference. I'm gonna guess you gave it right back to me. (atta boy if you did - I deserved it). Good for you to pull it down and take the high road...I have a lot of respect for that.

You don't need to accept the apology...but please know I offered it. Believe me, I share your passion for Hobart Hockey...I shouldn't be lashing out at the only other guy on this forum that cares as much as I do about a potential deep playoff run. Hobart has sniffed around a national title a number of times...but never has broke through the semifinals to play in the championship game. Maybe this is their year....

Llama,
Thanks for your post, I'm totally cool , but I will avoid going to a virtual hug until Hobart wins the first championship....hopefully sooner rather than later!

Prove it.

Just like you are able to prove that Utica are perennial national contenders, I'm sure.

Again, the schools WANT IT THAT WAY with the playoffs awarding the AQs.

You are free to prove that D-3 wants to ignore the RS, which, of course, is an idiotic situation... This thing that exists is truly dumb, and nobody in his/her right mind would dispute that. I'm guessing that D-3 hockey schools don't want to rock that leaky boat.

As far as using a term like "perennial contenders", well, that's subjective, but Utica has been close enough to qualify.

Rant away, you only support the moronic status quo.

Yeah, SNC is a lock for the tournament. :P

Lets see how it fares vs. Adrian before we get too carried away.

Keep moving the goalposts, or actually talk turkey.

Fish - we have this same discussion year after year, at this point of the year. This same issue will be present when we go D1, too.

Yeah, SNC is a lock for the tournament. :P

Definitely not a lock. They finished in 3rd place in their conference and I believe are something like 17 currently in the PW. Good new though, all D3 conferences have elected on their own to accord to award their AQ into the NCAA tournament to the conference post season tournament champion! So, although it is a challenging road ahead, there is still a path for SNC to compete for their sixth NCAA title. Wouldn't that be amazing?

That's what makes this time of the season SO appealing. Everyone left still has a shot to make the dream come true. No team had their year ruined by an 0-2 start in October against their toughest opponent of the season.

I always thought it was so strange that back in the day the Big 10 did not have a post season basketball tournament and elected to award their AQ to the regular season champion. Finally, they saw the logic and excitement behind the post season tournament and changed their bylaws to award the AQ like every other major conference in the country. Also, this sets conferences up with the best opportunity for NCAA success as their hottest team at the end of the season will always be participating.

Hope this helps clear up some confusion!

edit: SNC is 14 in the PW! Who would have guessed?

Who said anything about St. Norbert being a lock for the tournament right now? Not me. That was you, oh master of the non-sequitur. Put down the Old Grandad that's gone bad long enough and you may be able to make to make the connection.

St. Norbert has played Adrian twice and split. Utica played them twice and was swept. All I pointed out was the common opponents record. That said I do not believe Utica would hold up in the weekly grind in the NCHA or NEHC.

I'm sure you know more as a purveyor of fine Kohler products than professional coaches and administrators.

Now I see you are walking back the "perennial national contenders" to just "perennial contenders." Which one is it? Utica is a perennial contender in the United Cripples Hockey Conference. But no evidence exists that it is true on a national level.

Good heavens, this is NOT at all what I asked you to prove.

You are truly the most delusional person in the history of Humankind.

No wonder Sir Nubs has so much "fun" with you.

You are dumber than a box or rocks.

Just because I explain a system does not mean I approve or support it.

If I explain Communism, does that make me a commie?

If I explain bigotry, does that make me a bigot?

If I explain Fishman's moronic idiocy, does that make me a moronic idiot?
