I really don't have anything to complain about. Denver won the title in 2022 and is an experienced, proven team with a great coach (even beat BC early in season). They reinvented their game as the season progressed and became a defensive juggernaut with a hot goalie. Even then you need some puck luck in these game. DU got some on their first goal where as Gasseau missed that open net in first, ridiculous save on Leonard, Gustafsson post. That's hockey unfortunately.
I would have pulled Fowler earlier but BC isn't great at faceoffs so I wonder if that factored in. Potentially a learning moment for Brown though as I think the announcers were right in that go for it with about 5 minutes left. Trying to remember the sequencing but I think I also would have used my timeout to keep the first PP unit on late in the game. I think BC still had timeout at that point.
Either way that just had the feel of a game where the puck wasn't gonna go in no matter what. There was even a sequence in front where I think Jellvik and someone else had chances and Davis stopped both. Tip your cap. It was the type of game I expected but going in I thought BC would solve the Denver defense. Smith had a breakaway. Jellvik made a ridiculous pass to someone streaking in on net in the 2nd (same type of play to Gauthier against Mich Tech. Davis was just a wall.
You can't expect to win a national title. Just doesn't work that way. Often times these star studded teams fail spectacularly. That wasn't the case with this team. Delivered double Hockey East championship and played for national title. That's meeting expectations and more.
First HE title since 2012, first FF since 2016, first title game since 2012. Now you have to just keep knocking on the door and not have a lengthy down period. Time for some consistency. DU is doing it, QU, three straight FFs for Michigan, Minnesota etc. Become what those programs are and make sure you are in the mix just about every year.
