2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

I know what you mean. Tonight can't get here fast enough.

Just had my coffee and breakfast and a walk to CVS near my hotel I am located next to green line and gopher football stadium. Seniors pay only a $1 to ride. Save myself the expense and headache looking for a parking spot ️tonight

What a performance. The big names were big when it counted. Now they just need one more win to cap it off. Counting down the hours to Saturday already.

Almost back to my hotel
took forever for the trolley about half hour wait in the cold
can’t wait for Saturday

While waiting at central station I started chatting to this fan and he was a wolverine grad

ww had a chat about Michigan hockey in that long wait as there was nothing else to do

He expressed his frustration about not winning since they beat BC in 98’

Since that epic game it has been for them and they have had great teams like in 2008 they were stacked but notre dame somehow pulled an upset thus we ended up beating the Irish for NC

They also had Matt Beniers and BC missed the opportunity to sign him because they only offered him a partial scholarship and said he can’t play center because BC had four centers. This I know while chatting with grandfather who has business in my town

Needless to say BC missed the boat

In a way I thought it was a good payback for 1998 and we had a good friendly chat

Needless to say I felt his frustration because BC has not won it since 2012 and was mired in mediocrity recent years

But it’s not over and BC needs to finish it off to truly make this a special and successful season

They did it last year with 2 players from the same school. It happened in 2009 and 2005 as well. They also left the east out of the last 3 years of hobey baker finalists so leaving out the west/midwest shouldn’t be an issue. When you have a team who, if they did win, would have the most wins in 30 years, I don’t think it’s crazy to have 2 of the 3 finalists in the Hobey

I am thinking there could have been three from same team if Perrault didn’t get injured

he was on the way on being the top point getter until the upper body injury

What a weird game. Thought they were very meh in the 1st period but saw the tempo that made Mich a great matchup. Powerplay was also very meh.

Amazing team defense starting with 1, first FF shutout in program history

Please tell me I am not the only one who heard cement head Buccigross basically tell everyone that Celebrini won the Hobey? Extend the voting period. Cutter Gauthier deserves the award. Period. Put in the work defensively to help neutralize Michigan's big line, picks the pocket of McGroarty and essentially ices the game.

The first 5-10 minutes of the game were shaky. Could have been a different story if Michigan popped one there. But as the game went on (despite Michigan shot compiling in the 3rd) I thought BC played better and better. Everyone talks about the offense but this was a team performance where everyone bought in to defending against an elite offensive team. Fowler was great but the guys in front of him did a tremendous job limiting quality chances. That was a very enjoyable performance to see a team of "stars" commit to playing the game that was needed against a team like Michigan.

He did. Who cares. You have a Natty. (Plus, Will Smith is really the one who should win it.)

While I like BC's chances tomorrow, I have immense respect for Denver and its program and would make no such assumptions that BC has this in the bag. This Denver team that led the nation in scoring has now managed to completely transition to winning three straight 2-1 games in crunch time. They are experienced, well-rounded, well coached, have won over 30 games and beat BC on BC's home ice earlier this season.

Greg Brown is building a very strong team from the net out. I know that they will be very difficult to score against the next two years, but I never expected them to shut out Michigan. They looked a little sluggish in the first period only getting 6 shots on goal. For awhile they only had 1 shot and and 1 goal. The ice did not look good, both teams had players falling down in open space. I thought BC settled into their game from the middle of the 2nd period on.

BU should have beaten DU. They didn’t get a single power play. On the GWG the BU guy got hooked in the Denver zone which sent DU on their breakout. DU was holding BU a lot and the refs let it go. I had the BU band sitting next to me and they were annoying to be nice. Then I had the Michigan band next to me and they were raving about BC. Excellent band!

The Club seats in this arena are way too high up. Not a great design with having the club seats above the luxury boxes.

Go Eagles!

I have 1st row behind the net in the nose bleeds. Sitting beside North Dakota fans and great view seeing plays develop but the stairs really steep and you can easily tumble if you have a misstep

The glass barrier is really low in front of me and I had fears of falling over the low fence into club seats below if I stood up and lean over the glass too much

Hard to argue this. I know I'm crossing sports, but he keeps delivering at a big game Larry Bird, Michael Jordan level.

Just not right, Gauthier is the best player in college hockey this year. Celebrini is an elite talent and an excellent team player but Gauthier is the best player this year.

I will again suggest that they not do the voting before the FF. It doesn't make any sense at all to not have the biggest games of all factored into voting. I agree though, should have been Gauthier. But I also just saw Fowler didn't win the Richter and I'll take him over Kyle McClellan anyday. On to tomorrow!

It is what is and I heard explanations why Macklin was chosen which I understand but on stats Cutter edges him

it would be more fair if they were co-winners with close to similar numbers

but congratulations to Celebrini and maybe the team is now more motivated for cutter to win it for him

Gauthier would have been a good choice, too. If I had to guess, I think the voters saw the significant difference in supporting cast between Celebrini and the 4 BC forwards. Celebrini had 28 points more than the next highest forward at BU. All 4 BC guys are at 60 points or more. Also, Celebrini followed up his POY with MOP of the regional, which makes it hard to justify NOT giving it to him over Gauthier IMO. Yes, Celebrini had Lane Hutson out there often, which BC doesn't have an equivalent player for.

Any chatter on campus about what the three freshmen are thinking after this season? I know I saw one writer opine that he would be shocked if Leonard is back, which checks out in my mind - he seems absolutely ready, like Gauthier. I assume Fowler will be back - highly unusual for a goalie to be a one and done.

Awards or not I remember thinking last year and maybe even early this season that I wish Gauthier was a little more well rounded. Well, he blossomed in a BIG way. He is the complete package out there now. That has to be gratifying for Greg Brown and the coaches.

Lots of respect for David Carle and Denver. They were a complete mess defensively and in goal first half of the season. To go on the "road" and beat UMass/Cornell and follow that up by grinding out a win over BU is impressive. They might not be the most dominant team you'll ever see but they find a way. All 2-1 wins in tournament including two in OT. I am expecting another low scoring game like that today. What I saw from BC against Michigan is that they are also comfortable being patient and defending when needed.

I'm hoping the freshman give due consideration to how well Gauthier coming back for his sophomore year worked out for him.

Also, no slight to Celebrini, but Gauthier deserved the Hobey. It's not just the spectacular feats of goal scoring, it's how good his all around game has become. Part of the reason BC took 3 out of 4 from BU was the job Gauthier did head to head on Celebrini.
