2023 - 2024 SEASON : Boston College

It is very annoying when coaches go the route of playing the refs to get a little influence later. Coaches that come to mind are (were) all excellent x's and o's coaches but were also in the refs ear throughout games: Jack Parker, Shawn Walsh, Rand Pecknold, Greg Carvel. I wish that referees would call a bench minor for such boorish behavior to put a stop to it. Discipline is often administered to teams for complaining after a game for comments about refereeing so why not do so during a game. It doesn't have to be a swear for it to happen as gestures are even more noticeable to fans.

Had a few text messages about QU and Coach Peckerhead with some folks over the past few days. We all agreed he is the new Shawn Walsh.

Tremendous coach, unnecessarily douchey with the whining and berating of refs constantly. Bozo.

edit - regarding Uconn... Wood, Salminen and Sergeev their goalie all hit the portal. Wheels are falling off over there for Cavanaugh. Unfortunate, good coach and great guy in an unwinnable situation at a school that has no future of ever being good in hockey.

we're going to need some more from 34 & 6 next weekend.

someone pointed out will smith had a big brace on his wrist in postgame which reminded me he got slashed pretty good in the tech game (one of the many items on both sides that went uncalled for first 45 or so minutes in the 1st round which ultimately turned into chaos). might explain sunday's performance.

Smith was also the recipient of a leg check late in the 3rd period (after BC tied the game) that would have been called a penalty at any other point in the game. Guess that can happen if you fear Rand Pecknold attacking you with a hockey stick.

Yes that was flagrant penalty and dangerous. We have to move away from the “let’s let the boys play” in tournament philosophy, because we end up letting significant infractions occur and it detracts from the skill and speed of the college game. The teams in the Frozen Four all will play the skill & speed game which should make for an exciting finale. You can still lay a good check on a player, just have to be in compliance with the general rules.
Blind side hits to players who neither have nor had the puck will remain penalties.

I hate when refs all the sudden change the way they call games based on the time left or the score or the fact it’s a tournament game. Call it the way it’s called all year. It happened in a bunch of other games this weekend too. Michigan almost got screwed against NoDak on a blatant trip that should’ve ended up on a 5 on 3 but actually went to a 4 on 4 moments later. Luckily Michigan won and it didn’t matter. Same thing with BC winning

Man do I hate leg checks. I broke my femur on a leg check the summer before my junior year of high school and there has been nothing more guaranteed to make me see red ever since.

BC could have been up 2-0 after the first period. A bad penalty by Smith and a blind behind the back clearing pass by #5 and it was 2-0 QU. From that point on BC outscored QU 5-2. I actually thought BC could win this game 4-1 or 5-2. The regional finals have been some our most difficult wins in this tournament over the years.

Looking at the stat somebody posted that QU was 2nd in the nation defensively and a surprising 5th in scoring, that was a heck of a win for a team with a freshman goalie, 3 freshman and two sophomores on defense. This team is going to be very tough to score on the next couple of years.

Smith did have a wrist injury. Luckily, he will have 12 days to rest.

Go Eagles!

mookie’s tickets are available. Best seats in the house, row 1 on the rail in section 221. Can have for cost (454) or less if you’re a student and have a budget. Not going to sent mookie to the poor house. Let mookie know

Ya a lot of people have been talking about BC coming back and the great resiliency out of them but the game could’ve been way different if they capitalized on their chances in the first. They had a wide open PP opportunity and Perrault’s breakaway were the 2 biggest to come to mind. Those are both plays they rarely don’t execute on at least one of

I would add I watched the high stick goal a lot and I have yet to see definitive proof of contact being made above the cross bar. But it was called no goal so that's how it stood. And actually I didn't mind the challenge because Bucci hit on it. That first goal is huge especially against a team like QU.

I'm rewatching parts of this game right now.
- Tellier, who handed Malone the GWG on a silver platter, was mixing it up after the whistle on multiple occasions, attacking Posma and then mixed it up with Ambrosio in the second period. Thanks for the win Christophe.
- The Cohen/Bucci rationalization for the blind side hit on Leonard maybe not even being a penalty was absolutely wild.
- Malone's ability to somehow win possession of the puck on the 3rd goal was impressive. Super small play that was a highly difficult play to make that kept it in the zone and ended up being a goal by Leonard on the wrap-around.
- The Fortescue penalty right at the end of the 2nd was terrible. Cross-checking motion but really just knocked the guy down with his top hand on the stick. A lot of missed calls on QU (like I remembered) in the game too. You wonder if bad officiating will rear its head in the FF in a big moment and you just hope the teams play good clean hockey.

I can attest to the benefits of first row, upper level. Great view and no knuckleheads standing up in front of you.

I believe I saw on Twitter that Seamus Casey should be back for Michigan as well. They might have entered the tournament at #10 overall but they are loaded. Down the stretch they won a couple games at Minnesota, lost in OT at MSU in Big Ten title game and then of course just beat UND and MSU. With that said they absolutely do not play defense or haven't been good at trying to protect leads. Curious to see what Greg Brown's approach is.

Cutter, Celebrini and Blake the hobey finalists. Crazy Perrault didn’t make the top 10 and Smith didn’t make the top 3. Maybe it’s mega recency bias and seeing Smith had a tough last weekend but this one is head scratching
