2014 Four Nations Cup

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

As a Canada fan I really hope Lamoureux gets a lot of ice time again. Whether it's creating PP situations for Canada, or coughing up the puck....

My take on Monique as a defenseman was that she's great against average or lesser teams. Against top competition she was a serious liability, doing exactly what you commented on. The Gophers just abused her at the blue line whenever she played there.

Is Lisa Chesson still on the national team? I thought she was playing well, even before she got cut from the Olympics.

There is a quote from baseball that can be made to fit. "Million dollar arm, five cent brain". There is a bunch of talent there but she makes the least of it.

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

If Terry had had the year she had as a senior one year earlier, I think she'd have been seriously considered for the Olympic team. For some reason, her scoring touch deserted her as both a sophomore and a junior. She did everything else fabulously, and she's a world class player just for her defense, but she couldn't get the puck to go into the net. Fortunately, that changed her last year her.

And, if there's a medical emergency on the ice, she's a trained EMT.

I think Terry does not play the Canadian game either. Now the Lamoureuxs know how to goon it up & could fit right in on the Canada squad. Terry, not so much. The big thing with Terry beyond the speed & smarts is the grit she has with and without the puck. She and Davis prevented more scoring chances for opponents than many blueline squads.

I did not know much of Kelly Terry before this week (but knew much of Sarah Davis :p) and will watch her closely. Her speed and stick skills look Kessel-esque at times which stands out a lot amongst the older Canadian team.
I don't know that I'd put Terry on a short list for people with great hands, but her wheels and motor stand out. Even in the 3OT NCAA game, she just kept going.

I have been SCREAMING for Schaus to get a start in one of these gold medal games over Rigsby.
It's usually Vetter; maybe all the Wisconsin goalies look alike to you? ;)

I don't think MLam is international caliber as a D. She can contribute offensively in that role, but is not solid enough defensively to have out there in a gold-medal game.

As for the Canadian rotation, maybe they went with luck-of-the draw for who was going to sit?

If she was not even good at the position against better-than-average NCAA teams, how is she even a consideration for a national team??? Surely USA is not nearly that devoid of talent that they couldn't have found a much better option on the roster....Bender? Ramsay? McMillen? Boulier? etc. etc.

I'm pretty sure Turnbull didn't dress against US the first time around. I didn't see her name in the lines HC Women tweeted just prior to puck drop.
I'd agree that she's been pretty invisible otherwise, though she just earned her way back onto any national team, so she's definitely got a lot to prove.
I have seen/heard Clark's name a bit, but she's also a freshman and very young. This is basically her first shot at senior level, right?

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

Ambrose and Campbell sitting tonight.
I don't get it. They are not even close to the weakest in the lineup.
Classic Canadian move. More interested in spreading around who sits so no one sits twice than putting the best lineup out there to win gold. Ugh

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

And as I'm reading over this thread, a major breakdown, with video "highlights" of M-Lam's foibles on D. At least she gave herself a D+ and seems to know she's not doing well.

On the other side of the Wisco puck, I'm very excited about how involved Pankowski is. She really seems comfortable and she's being used quite a bit.

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

Again. Larocque needs to sit. Juicy turnover leading to an easy goal. On for both goals against. Why could they not have had Ambrose dressed instead. Stupidity.

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

Number 7 for the US continues to be a liability. Canada's defense has had some issues as well. Did Brandt get hit with a high stick?

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

2-2 after regulation and a 20 minute, 4 on 4 overtime period. A shootout will determine who gets Gold...(:
