2014 Four Nations Cup

Re: 2014 Four Nations Cup

Well, yeah, that made it an amazing shootout, not an amazing game. Home Run Derbys can be fun too.

THIS. Plus the fact that a lot of the people doing remembering don't know a blue line from a cross-check. They only watch game 7 and and some of the Olympics. Oshie had a hell of a run & deserves a lot of credit for what he accomplished but it still did not mean the better team won. The rules should be designed to help the better team, not the better one-on-one matchup for a few tries.

that brings to mind the following comparison, settling a tie in hockey with a shootout is the equivalent of settling a tie baseball game with a home run derby. It ain't baseball, and it ain't hockey. Or how about settling a football game with long field goal attempts?

they do it in soccer because they could end up playing for weeks, and besides, it's soccer

In soccer, if it's a regular season or pool game, they just end it with regulation and call it a tie if the two teams have scored the same number of goals.

I don't mind 3 on 3 at all relative to a shootout.

We aren't really having this conversation if someone scores in OT. Personally I'm shocked someone didn't score in 20 minutes of 4 on 4. That will usually do the trick.

Well it certainly must be more fun to watch, and the resulting stats show that the experiment is successful.
