2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

(Ouch to Martin's injury).

Who's doing the commentating? Are they American commentators?

I expected to hear Rod Black & Cheryl Pounder as was the case last night and the last few years on the TSN broadcasts. They always do an excellent job with Botterill back in the studio for the intermissions.

They were on TSN. Fast Hockey is using the TSN feed and their own announcers. By the sound of the accents and their use of terms like "minor" hockey I would say they were Canadians. Other than the play by play guy calling Anne Schleper "Schepler" throughout the game, and occasionally calling Miss Vetter "Vetler" they did a pretty good job.

Maybe they were Canadians, I only listened to a couple of minutes but, as mentioned, had expected to hear Black & Pounder since you indicated that it was a TSN feed...but I guess that means just the video is fed and not the audio.

He mispronounced Agosta's name which ain't that tough so I assumed that a US commentator would be more likely to be less familiar with her name. That said, the guy introducing the lineups on the ice last night screwed up Duggan (Doogan) which drew a few laughs and smiles from the US players standing on their blue line.

Also heard him call Bailey Bram "Bram Bailey" at one point!

And the person doing the color commentary needs to speak louder and/or more directly into the microphone.

Interesting that all four of the USA's goals today were scored by former Shattuck-St. Mary's players: Monique and Jocelyne Lamoureux, Brianna Decker and Amanda Kessel.

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

Any reason Switzerland isn't playing Florence Schelling? Might have kept this game a little more respectable in score.

Something similar happened yesterday in the Canuck game, where the BU connection had a hand in most of the production, including the shootout winner.

And poor Courtney Birchard, better known as the defender Brichard.

Dude needs to take the time and look at the roster, the pronunciation guide, or at the very least the player's nameplate when she is shown exiting the ice on TV!

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

And number 3 skirt holder Emma Terho (Laaksonen)

Shame on me for forgetting Emma! I had not seen Finland's roster, but I should have known she was playing! Gonna have to go back and edit that!

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

Things are getting interesting in Pool B......

I was at the Czech-Germany game earlier today. Early on the Czech's simply dominated, a shot count of 8-0 sometime in the first period, but unable to find the back of the net. Then the Czech's get into penalty trouble. Germans scored on their first PP and second shot of the game to take the lead. While the Czechs did get that one back later in the period, they continue to take dumb penalties and it cost them. Germany made them pay with two more power play goals in the second to make it 3-1. Germany also had a few quick break outs that led to odd man rushes and semi breakaways, one of whom led to the fourth goal. The Czech did try to make a game of it late, but it was too little and too late.

With Germany in second place, two points ahead of Sweden, Sweden will have to beat Russia to avoid the relegation round. Who would have thunk that at the start of this tournament.

Russia has already won the pool, so they will face the Swiss in the quarters. Look like Finland will face either Sweden or Germany in the other quarter.

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

USA not looking good so far...no score vs. Switzerland with less than 6 minutes to go in the first. Decker and Kessel failed to score on a shorthanded 2 on 0 breakaway!

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

2-0 after one. USA scored twice in the last minute of the period. Carpenter got the first one, banging in her own rebound on the power play, then Decker scored just 10 seconds later.

Total domination by USA in the second period, but the score is just 3-0 as Florence Schelling has been fantastic in goal for Switzerland. The U.S. has had 36 of the last 37 shots on goal going back to the middle of period one, including all 21 shots in the second....Brianna Decker with the lone goal on Schelling in the middle stanza.

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

5-0 final with Coyne and Chu getting the goals in the 3rd period. Final SOG were 61-6! Congrats to Florence Schelling (the Swiss Player of the Game) who played extremely well to keep the score respectable.

Tough last two games for the Czechs after upsetting Sweden in their first game.

Congrats to Division III Norwich's Lucie Manhartova on scoring a goal for the Czechs in their 6-3 loss today to Germany.

Re: 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women's World Championship

Hoping the incredible Miss Raty can have an even better outing than Miss Schelling.
