2013-2014 D-I Scores and Results Updates Thread

Re: 2013-2014 D-I Scores and Results Updates Thread

Man, there's been 10:04 left in the BU/Northeastern game for a half hour.

RPI and Princeton tie 4-4; Quinni beats Union 1-0; so over the weekend RPI picks up 3 points, Union and Quinni 2 each, and Princeton gets 1. Although an RPI fan, I love the fact that nobody can go up against Union anymore and expect to win without their A game.

Yale over Harvard 2-0.

I have to say, Yale's performance this year is something I just didn't see coming. Anybody who has been watching them care to comment on what the source of the turnaround has been?

Minnesota loses a shootout to Ohio State 3-2. With all due respect to Ohio State, who certainly improved from last night, but this was easily the worst game I have seen the Gophers play in over 2 years.

MN lacked intensity tonight. Looked very beatable.

If you had followed the 2013-14 Commitments thread last season, you would have noticed that Yale was thought to have one of the top-rated incoming classes around, and many thought they would be among the most improved teams this season. Add to that, the fact that last season their top three scorers were actually freshman, and that their senior class included a 5th defenseman and a variety of forwards whose contributions had been fairly modest throughout their careers.

Yale has also been plagued for the past few years--more than most teams-- with a wide variety of serious season-ending and in some cases career-ending injuries. Injuries were typically to many of its biggest impact players both offensively and defensively. I can think off the top of my head of 4 who have taken full season withdrawals, and at least 3 forced retirements. As a result, Yale has significantly underperformed the past 2-3 seasons relative to where they should have been had they had "average" injury levels.

If you look at their game log, it really looks like a combination of strong goaltending and good offense. More notably, they are scoring A LOT more goals.

Phoebe Staenz has 17 points in 13 games, 7 are goals. Jannelle Ferrera has 14 points in 17 games. Yale is also seeing a lot of contributions from players like Haddad, Yip-Chuck, Mock and Astrom, all of which are freshmen and sophomores. It seems like a lot of these forwards are having breakout seasons.

Also, d-men Martini, Tomimoto and Marchin are putting up good numbers offensively speaking.

Leonoff has 549 saves in 16 games, that's 35 saves per game! RPI outshout Yale 40-12, yet Yale won 2-1. Quinnipiac outshot them 44-27, resulting in a 0-0 tie. The shots Vs. Harvard were 29-31 in favor of Yale, but that is a 29 save shutout. Yale has been outshot badly in the majority of their games, yet they are winning big games.

Looks like good offense and opportune goaltending, at least from a statistical point of view.

Going into the 3rd period, Northeastern is leading BC 2-1.

Re: 2013-2014 D-I Scores and Results Updates Thread

Eagles tie it up 2-2 about 5 1/2 minutes into the 3rd.

Re: 2013-2014 D-I Scores and Results Updates Thread

Now 3-2 BC with 7 1/2 to go.

I watched their 2 games against Minnesota. Phoebe Staenz was great to watch and continued to make good, aggressive plays even when her team was reeling a little bit.

Wisconsin adds a empty net goal to make the final 4-1 Wisconsin over UND. Split doesn't help either team gain any ground on a rare opportunity to make up ground on Minnesota.

Re: 2013-2014 D-I Scores and Results Updates Thread

That's your final. BC started to dominate as the game went on as NU was playing with 8 F and 5 D

NU's 13 took a nasty leg injury after the midpoint of the second -- I didn't see what happened exactly -- and NU gradually ran out of steam after that, despite playing well above their ranking for the rest of the weekend.

This was my first time in Matthews in a year and I was reminded what a great venue it was. Also, the NU pep band really rocked the house.

The Hockey City Classic is in the books (at least the women's portion of it). Minnesota over MSMU 4-0 out-shooting them 51-19
