Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

Jefferson Co (Colorado) "Democrat of the Year" convicted of felony charges of stealing from a developmentally disabled, partially blind, wheel chair bound old lady with cerebral palsy. What makes it even worse, Jeff Co Democrats were advised of the investigation before the lady was named "Democrat of the Year." Will or should this have any impact on the voting in Colorado? Probably not. But man, how embarrassing is it that your "Democrat of the Year" may be headed to the slammer for stealing from a helpless old lady? Talk about schadenfreude.

As my dad would say, that person should be taken out back and shot...but it would be a waste of a perfectly good bullet.

Yet another example of the outstanding politicians that we have in this country.

Even reading about her makes you want to take a shower. She's one answer to the question: "How low can you go?" I wonder if they'll let her hang her "Democrat of the Year" plaque in her cell.

Just when I think I have heard it all-soemthing like this comes up. You just cannot ever underestimate human nature.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

The 2% figure is based upon the equivalent of an annualized interest your tax money would otherwise earn in the markets to get the same net benefit for your retirement. So, yes, retirees are getting out more than they put in to the 2% figure.

Thank you, I remembered it similarly. This part in isolation is not unreasonable, absent the subsequent raid.

The other people drawing SSI and minor children now receiving their parents' benefits when it was not originally designed that way are creating a much larger outflow of cash than was ever intended by FDR. In fact, if you look at the way FDR sold SSA, you wouldn't recognize it as the agency that exists today.

ah, yes, you reminded me of something. somehow, alcoholism and drug dependency became classified as a "disability" under SSI. There was an operation in Chicago in the 1980s in which a law firm would round up skid row alcoholics, bring them to a complicit psychological testing firm, and then get them classified as "disabled" under SSI. Because they had become "disabled" well before their "claim" actually was filed, they were entitled to retroactive benefits. The law firm received a percentage of the retroactive benefits out of which they paid the testing firm its fee. Great racket for them all and even technically legal, even if extremely sleazy.

Fish: I have seen several reports of other diagnoses accepted for disability benefits-Depression (which i would imagine should be quite severe to merit this kind of payment) and Insomnia (not exactly sure how long you have to have this diagnosis to begin qualifying). During my years in practice i saw many strange things-but the reasons for being elligible for disability have gotten a bit outlandish. Also, in the past much of the disability payment granted were temporary and the claimant had to be reevaluated at intervals to see if they were still indeed disabled but i recall one fellow who was collecting for a diagnosis of a severely sprained ankle which he sustained 3 years previously and was still on the rolls. These are anecdotal of course and i would hope not representative of an abundance of cases but I just do not know.

Interesting take by John Podhoretz. He writes that the Republican narrative that Obama has been "a failure" as President is wrong. He says that Obama in fact has been extremely successful in what he set out to do, and that it will be very difficult for any President to undo them.
> he got the stimulus passed (whether it "worked" or not was secondary to its affect on baseline spending trajectory)
> he got the US government to buy stock directly in a failing company (instead of nationalize it)
> he involved the government more deeply and more intimately in people's lives than ever before

give the man his due. He wanted to change America. He has

Interesting, one of those code words for more tedious bull****.

I believe that's why many on the right have wondered exactly what side the messiah dictator is on. Does he truly want America to fail? Based upon what he has learned from Frank Marshall Davis, Jeremiah Wright, and has professed in his teachings, I think he does. That is why he will not receive my vote.

Which stimulus is he talking about--the first 700B Bush pushed through before he ejected from a crashing plane or another one?

He's talking about the second one where he paraded around Lincoln Chafee because he was a knuckledragger that agreed with him.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

My question is why aren't the Republicans providing Somali speaking interpreters, too?

In politics, never get outhustled.

I wish Youtube still had clips from "That's My Bush!" (old Parker/Stone sitcom); the Karl Rove character taught an eskimo that "oil good" means "I'm hungry".

You are convinced that Obama wants American to fail, and that is the basis for your vote?

I believe his policies put America on a track to failure. Politicians aren't stupid; they have a reason for everything, and it isn't always to win a popularity contest.

1 and 2 are true and not worthy of criticism, 3 is complete and utter b.s.

burd - that post from Flag is precisely why I have him on ignore. People that think he wants the country to fail (where is James Bond when we need him?) deserve zero time and effort.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

I have an aversion to the policies of a previous administration that caused a train wreck littering the entire nation with wreckage debris. But I do believe some politicians are stupid. Stupidity...often partnered with nefarious, self serving intent and motivation guided by ruling class protectionist objectives. I can't see my way to casting a vote for his would be Emperorness or his Heycheckoutmypipesduudeminioness.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election Part 4

If you're looking for a thread of consistency in the Romney campaign, it's his willingness to lie and mislead to reach his goal. From the much debunked "apology tour" to his first TV ad with Obama's quoting of McCain taken out of context (and when the critics pointed it out, he refused to pull the ad), and more recently with more falsehoods about welfare rules and Medicare savings. And now the latest. A false claim that Jeep wil move all manufacturing to China. Chrysler had to issue a statement setting things straight.

Machiavellian Mitt just can't help himself.
