Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

Do you know what is involved in ratifying an amendment to the Constitution? it's a lot harder than passing a law!
Scooby's talking about the state constitution here in MN. It only takes 50% of the vote +1 to amend it once you get the issue onto the ballot. Over the past 8 years, it's been abused by both parties to get some unsavory things that couldn't make it through the traditional legislative process.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

I bet that changed a lot of votes.

That reminds me... I really hate all the yard signs and think there is no way seeing a sign will impact someone's vote. But at the same time I'm upset that I don't see enough signs for some of my fav canidates.

well, there is a strong social element in the human psyche, if all your neighbors have a yard sign in favor of one particular candidate (or even if only a few neighbors do, yet they are neighbors you like and respect), there is an unconscious yet real pressure to conform to group norms.

Notice that somehow you felt slighted when you didn't see signs for the candidate(s) you support? similar mechanism at work on the subconscious level.

Says the person who cites Rachel Maddow as his source and reason for hating Jeff Flake.

Maybe these unbiased articles (which are remarkably similar to Maddow's Communist Propaganda) will explain it:

On The Issues.org
Real Clear Politics
The Hill
Rep. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said during the first Arizona Senate debate that he would not and has not signed Grover Norquist's no-tax pledge, but the candidate is listed as one of the signers on the Americans for Tax Reform website.

When asked by the debate moderator whether he had signed the pledge, Flake said "no."

"The only pledge I'd sign is a pledge to sign no more pledges," Flake added. "We've got to ensure that we go back and represent our constituents in a way -- I believe in limited government, economic freedom, individual responsibility. I don't want higher taxes. But no more pledges."

But Flake is listed as one of the 238 Representatives from the current Congress who've signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, which asserts that any signatory oppose an increase in taxes and a decrease in deductions. The pledge is pushed by Americans for Tax Reform, an advocacy group founded by Grover Norquist that works to prevent tax increases.

Or you can see his name on the list at the ATR Website
ARIZONA
AZ-Sen Jon Kyl (R)
AZ-Sen John McCain (R)
AZ-01 Paul Gosar (R)
AZ-02 Trent Franks (R)
AZ-03 Ben Quayle (R)
AZ-05 David Schweikert (R)
AZ-06 Jeff Flake (R)
But no, Maddow is completely wrong and has really pulled the wool over Scooby's eyes!

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

pre-election day "results" (rumors?):

Josh Kraushaar@HotlineJosh
Overall, early vote turnout OH up 2.44% in state. Down -4.1% in Obama/Kerry counties; up 14.39% in Bush/McCain counties.

Probably nonsense, but these rumors are fun simply because of Ohio's importance. Whoever wins Ohio, wins.

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

For what its worth, Romney's internal polls have him up 1 in OH and tied in WI and PA.

One other thing to note is that the only bad weather predicted in any of those states is in Milwaukee and its only light rain.

Just got back from performing my civic duty. Short lines. It was a tough call. I just asked myself as I was waiting who was the last candidate who made me feel good inside. Trust your gut kind of thing. So I wrote in Pat Paulsen and felt dam good about it. To see him win and the Sioux beat BC would be like the perfect year.

As much as I disdain "spin rooms", I must admit there are some tiny lingering doubts about Obama's sure thing. They probably won't be resolved before I get up tomorrow.

Facts were never something Bob let get in the way of his verbal diarrhea. Life is rough when you are nailed to the cross ;)

Re: 2012 Presidential Election 5: Election Day Countdown

In my entire life I've never seen a campaign come out in public and say they were going to lose on election day. Even the Dole campaign didn't do that, and it was rumored he even knew the race was over by mid-October. They always have their own polls showing victory.

Now of course there is a first time for everything, but I think back to Karl Rove on the eve of the 2006 mid-terms. He also had his own polling showing the GOP retaining both the House and Senate by narrow margins, and had an analysis prepared allegedly to show how network polling was skewed. He kept both the whiny liberals and lazy press on edge until both of the Republican Congressmen in NH called to tell him they'd lost....sometime around mid-afternoon!

Just sayin'

That pretty well sums it up.
